What is Paranormal and is it real?
Paranormal is actually a word used to refer to things that science cannot (at this time) explain, which can be anything from abilities like telekinesis and clairvoyance to sightings of UFOs and spirit-related happenings. At one time science believed the world to be flat. When you consider how complex our world is it's quite feasible that there are many things yet to be provable by science yet exist as part of the universe we live in.
We tend to fear what we don't know, and through this writing we hope to bring you to a more personal level with the spirit world by exploring if ghosts exist, what ghosts are, and some reasons why they may be here.
The existence of ghosts goes back in time since man first walked the earth and passed on. You will find ghostly stories in many ancient writings from all different cultures, walks of life and belief systems. The belief in ghosts as souls of the departed is closely related to the ancient concept of animism, which attributed souls to everything in nature, including human beings, animals, plants, rocks, etc. As the nineteenth-century anthropologist James Frazer explained in his classic work, The Golden Bough, souls were seen as the creature within that animated the body: "If a man lives and moves, it can only be because he has a little man or animal inside, who moves him. The animal inside the animal, the man inside the man, is the soul. And as the activity of an animal or man is explained by the presence of the soul, so the repose of sleep or death is explained by its absence; sleep or trance being the temporary, death being the permanent absence of the soul... " Although the human soul was sometimes symbolically or literally depicted in ancient cultures as a bird or other animal, it was widely held that the soul was an exact reproduction of the body in every feature, even down to clothing the person wore. This is depicted in artwork from various ancient cultures, including such works as the Egyptian Book of the Dead, which shows deceased people in the afterlife appearing much as they did before death, including the style of dress.
Another widespread belief concerning ghosts is that they were composed of a misty, airy, or subtle material. Anthropologists speculate that this may also stem from early beliefs that ghosts were the person within the person, most noticeable in ancient cultures as a person's breath, which upon exhaling in colder climates appears visibly as a white mist. This belief may have also fostered the metaphorical meaning of "breath" in certain languages, such as the Latin spiritus and the Greek pneuma, which by analogy became extended to mean the soul. In the Bible, God is depicted as animating Adam with a breath. The bible speaks of several ghosts, such as Abel when murdered by his brother Cain, and his blood cried up from the ground in Genesis 4:9-12. It is believed by many paranormal researchers that a person who has died an unjust death remains bound to this realm waiting for justice to be served. Spirits can show up to deliver messages or warnings. Several years after Elijah died, King Jehoram received a letter from him. How long after? There are some difficulties in figuring the exact chronology, it varies from 2 to 10 years or more. A note in Josephus (a Jewish historian of the first century A.D.) says 4 years, while the Jewish Encyclopeida figures it at 7 years. Regardless of the exact number of years, "there came a writing to Jehoram from Elijah the prophet, saying..." (2 Chron 21:12). The wickedness of Jehoram, for which he was being rebuked by Elijah in the letter, took place after Elijah died, yet the letter speaks of these things as past events, and the punishment to come upon him as yet future. Although they had died in the old testament, in the New Testament, both Elijah and Moses appear with Christ on the mount of transfiguration. The record of the event is found in Mat. 17:1-9; Mrk.9;2-1O; Lk.9:28-36. Leaving the mountain, Jesus told his disciples: "Tell the vision to no man" (Mat. 17:9). The Dictionary defines vision as,"Something that is or has been seen", "Unusual competence in discernment or perception", "The mystical experience of seeing as if with the eyes the supernatural or a supernatural being". In this scripture, the apostles saw and heard both Moses and Elijah conversing with Christ about His decease which He should accomplish in Jerusalem. After the resurrection of Christ the bible tells that many departed saints appeared to many at Jerusalem. (Mat. 52) The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. (Mat. 53) They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people (Mat.27:52-53). In a cave at En-dor, a woman saw the spirit of Samuel who addressed King Saul at length, foretelling of his (and his sons) departure from physical life and their arrival in the Spiritual World "on the morrow". Belshazzar, in the midst of a licentious banquet saw a spiritual materialization that took the form of the fingers of a man's hand writing his sentence of condemnation upon the plaster of the wall of the King's palace (Dan.5:5). These literary works provide us some insight as to purpose of spirits
The Chinese philosopher, Mo Tzu (470-391 BC), is quoted as having said: "The way to find out whether anything exists or not is to depend on the testimony of the ears and eyes of the multitude. If some have heard it or some have seen it then we have to say it exists. If no one has heard it and no one has seen it then we have to say it does not exist. So, then, why not go to some village or some district and inquire? If from antiquity to the present, and since the beginning of man, there are men who have seen the bodies of ghosts and spirits and heard their voices, how can we say that they do not exist? If none have heard them and none have seen them, then how can we say they do? But those who deny the existence of the spirits say: "Many in the world have heard and seen something of ghosts and spirits. Since they vary in testimony, who are to be accepted as really having heard and seen them?" Mo Tzu said: As we are to rely on what many have jointly seen and what many have jointly heard, the case of Tu Po is to be accepted." (note: King Hsuan (827-783 BC) executed his minister, Tu Po, on false charges even after being warned that Tu Po's ghost would seek revenge. Three years later, according to historical chronicles, Tu Po's ghost shot and killed Hsuan with a bow and arrow before an assembly of feudal lords.).
Although the evidence for ghosts is largely anecdotal, the belief in ghosts throughout history, and from all walks of life, has remained widespread and persistent. In many historical accounts, ghosts were thought to be deceased people looking for vengeance, or imprisoned on earth for bad things they did during life. One of the earliest known ghost "sightings" in the west took place in Athens, Greece. Pliny the Younger (c. (50 AD) described it in a letter to Licinius Sura: Athenodoros Cananites (c. 74 BC – 7 AD), a Stoic philosopher, decided to rent a large, Athenian house, to investigate widespread rumors that it was haunted. Athenodoros staked out at the house that night, and, sure enough, a disheveled, aged spectre, bound at feet and hands with rattling chains, eventually "appeared". The spirit then beckoned for Athenodoros to follow him; Athenodoros complied, but the ghost soon vanished. The philosopher marked the spot where the old man had disappeared, and, on the next day, advised the magistrates to dig there. The man's shackled bones were reportedly uncovered three years later. After a proper burial, the hauntings ceased.
Most cultures have ghost stories in their mythologies. Many stories from the Middle Ages and the Romantic era rely on the macabre and the fantastic, and ghosts are a major theme in literature from those eras. Ghosts are prominent in the popular cultures of various nations. The ghost story is ubiquitous across all cultures from oral folktales to works of literature.
How can paranormal Phenomena from so many different directions, the different cultures, religions and literary works, be disputed. I tend to agree with Mo Tzu, when you can see the testimony of ghosts from so many different sects all the way back to ancient writings coming from different spectrums of beliefs, then how can you not depend on the testimony of the ears and eyes of the multitude. Of course Project Paranormal team members have no skepticism or we would not be here, so from that stance I will now speak directly about ghosts and what I know about them
Most hauntings are non malicious. What one is experiencing when there is ghostly activity is the recording of a deceased persons memories, actions, words, attitudes, strengths, weaknesses, victories, defeats, decisions, and plans, their life. Their spirit is still alive, even though their body is deceased and they could be just replaying their life, they could be trying to communicate something they want you to know, they could be waiting for and trying to assist in the bringing of justice for their blood shed or someone else's. Hopefully in understanding them, what they are, what their intentions are, there will be less fear of cohabitating with them. We can hope that in bringing understanding to you, it will dispel the fear of the unknown. It is always preferable to live with a non malicious spirit then to drive them away. They intend no harm to you, they are just coexisting in the same location as you, or trying to. My mother was visited nightly by my deceased grandmother. Just as in life, she came to my mothers bed every night and felt her way up the bed from the bottom to the top, assuring herself that my mother was there. The first time it happened after my grandmothers death, it frightened my mother terribly. Not because it was my grandmothers ghost, but because of the initial shock of feeling human hands making their way up the bed and then touching you in the pitch dark, not knowing who is in your room in the middle of the night, possibly a living intruder. Once my mother figured out it was grandma, she was a peace with it and lived with the occurrance nightly for many years until she moved to a new house. It was a spirit of love, grandma was just letting mom know she was okay and still watching over her. Now, think about this, my mother moved and someone else bought the old homestead. It is quite possible that grandma was still feeling her way up the bed in that bedroom thinking my mother was lying in it. But now it would be the new owner of the home lying in it. I would hate to think that anyone was frightened of my grandmother and would have her dispelled from the only home she knew in death, where she lingers to watch over what she thinks is her loved ones. It probably is the best place for her to reside until that future time when she is called to the great meeting in the air. Where else does she know or could she feel comfortable? I reside with the spirit of the man who built my 1800's home. Sometimes his nocturnal wanderings disturb my rest, and I am not fond of him touching me at times, but I feel the house is just as much his as mine, if not more his. I choose to live in harmony with him and have done so now for about 15 years. I tell you this because I want you to grasp the concept that ghosts were once like you or me, and in death they are still who they were in spirit form. The ghost you are abiding with was someone's daughter or son, maybe someone's mother or father. Ghosts do not intend you any harm, they are just existing much like all of us are. They were life, and now they are in afterlife form, but still all the personality traits they were composed of in life.
My mother also was, throughout our childhood, visited by my father's mother (her mother-in-law) who would wake her at night to relay to her a warning of troubles with us, her children. Funny thing is they did not get along that well in life. Unfortunitely for us, we did not get away with much because of it. I guess you could say that my paternal grandmother was a "snitching" ghost. In all seriousness though, she did also inform my mother of several serious happenings such as car accidents. Nothing she informed mom ever thwarted any events, but my mother always knew what to expect before the phone rang or the knock came at the door, and she was already in action. My brother came and advised me of his death moments after his last breath. His spirt awoke me out of a sleep and told me he was dead, and within minutes the phone call came in to my mother. He also appeared to me months later when I was still bound in the chains of deep mourning and let me know that he was okay, in which I was finally able to release the pain and begin the healing process. The night my father died, my granddaughter was only three days old. My father loved his grandchildren and he had not been able to even know of the birth of this one as he laid on life support in ICU for the prior 25 days in a medically induced coma. My daughter, who did not know of his death yet, called me the next morning to confirm if dad has passed away. She told me to not tell her what time he died, because she had something to tell me, that a few moments after midnight the new baby had awoken in her arms and with no crying, just gazed upward and then suddenly smiled (newborn smiled) and raised her arms towards the ceiling. My daughter said she knew my dad was there when this happened and that he had passed and he did get visit his new granddaughter after all. he time of this event occurred approximately three minutes after my father took his last breath with myself watching the clock at his bedside. My father was quite busy the night of his passing as he also came to visit me as I curled up in his favorite recliner chair mourning. I felt arms wrap around me in an embrace and even though I discerned it was my father, I still questioned myself as to if I was suffering in my imagination. Then he spoke and I knew it was my father, not because of his voice but because of what he said to me. He said, "Straighten up, you need to take care of your mother". That was my dad for you! My fathers spirit still lingers at my parents home. My three year old ventured off and when I located her, she was standing beside one of the twin beds in my mom's room (my parents slept in separate rooms). I asked her what she was doing there, and she pointed at the bed closest to the bathroom and said "Pa Pa". My three year old did not know that my dad had been sleeping in that bed prior to being hospitalized so that he could be right beside the bathroom. My father's spirit yearly plants his favorite vining plant of Cypress in the flower beds, a plant which does not grow naturally in Missouri, and of which my dad would harvest yearly while alive by bringing seed back for his yearly trips to Colorado. This spring my mother and I stood talking about the Cypress and I mentioned that I wish we could have dug up, and brought to the new house, the pink dogwood tree I had bought her and that my dad planted and tended so lovingly for her. She instantly told me she had something to show me, and led me to the side yard pointing at a young tree that has seemed to pop up out of nowhere, and it is not just a tiny sapling, but a young tree about four feet tall already. As I stood looking at this mystery tree and questioning her as to what it is, she informed me that my father has been busy again, it just appeared in full bloom a couple weeks earlier and it is a pink dogwood. She said that recently she had been pining for the dogwood tree at the old house, and suddenly there it was. My aunt and uncle were nature lovers. My aunt loved hummingbirds and my uncle loved owls. My aunt passed away from a long struggle with renal failure. My uncle literally mourned himself to death and passed a year later. My cousins told me of the night my uncle passed. My cousin sat in their kitchen which was like a glass walled room that was built by my uncle so they could observe the birds in the mornings, it looked out on the backyard. As she gazed out drinking her coffee, she witnessed a hummingbird fly down and perch on the fence rail. Soon after she witnessed an owl fly down and perch on the rail right beside the hummingbird, and they looked at one another and flew off together. It was at that exact moment that she knew my uncle had passed in his bedroom and ran to check him, finding him expired. I guess you could say that not only was this a ghostly visitation and the spirit of my aunt waiting for a meeting my uncle at his time of death, but it could be noted as shape shifting of a spirit as well.
Enough of my ghostly sharings, but I just wanted to emphasize to you that ghosts are just disembodied people that once lived, loved, laughed and enjoyed life just as all of us do. They have purpose for lingering. My maternal grandmother just to watch over her child. My paternal grandmother to watch over her grandchildren (and snitch them out), my aunt to wait for her husband and lead him to wherever they were going, my father to watch over us, give us comfort, entertain us and make us smile, and to tend the gardens as he did in life. The first owner of my home is still there, I am sure, to watch over what he created and tended so viligently every day of his life, he was a cattle farmer and this was his homestead. I have realized over the years that he thinks I am his wife, who lived on for many years after his death. This has been confirmed by his still living relatives, who have relayed to me that I am not the first owner of the home to be mistaken as such. I guess I am just the only one who is willing to accept, so to speak, a second husband of the spiritual kind. If you are having what you believe to be a haunting, then one of the best ways to get to the bottom of the ordeal is to gain knowledge of the history on the home. And the person did not have to die in the home. My grandmother spent many years in a nursing home after she came down with Alzheimers disease. By the time she passed, she did not even know any of us. In death, my grandmother regained the perfection of her spirit memories and mind, returning to the place of her last vivid memory in normal life, where she resided with my parents for years prior to the onset of the disease. And to a habit that she began performing at night when she first contracted the disease and still was of good mind, the waking at night and going to my mother's bed to check in the dark that she was still there and okay. It is common of paranormal researchers to first seek a tragedy that may have occurred, and then just the deaths that may have occurred on the property. But in all reality, spirits are about life, recordings of life and activity that went on while living. Residual hauntings are events that have left an impression in the environment of the structure, therefore with these types of hauntings there are not actually ghostly spirits involved, but just a repeat of an event that occurred, like replaying over and over a movie clip that has been imbedded in the wall of the structure. Therefore the people involved in the event may not even be deceased. I have pondered if the phenomena that many mothers, including myself, have exerienced can fall under this residual haunting. Have you ever been home alone, having placed your children with their grandparents for a weekend, and in the peaceful moment of taking time for yourself, reading a good book or the like, you suddenly hear one of your children call for you. And you jump and run to their room just to realize that they are not even in the house, they are at grandma's. The experience leaves your puzzled and feeling a litte strange. You may even for a moment panic wondering if some kind of maternal instinct has struck you and the child you heard must be in trouble, but upon calling to check on them, they are just fine and having a grand ol time. Is this what we call a residual haunting? I would say probably so, the impression of one of your childrens repetious every day activities that has embedded in the structure. I do not know about you, but my kids yelled "mommy" so much in a day that some days I used to tell them that I changed my name to a bad word that they were not allowed to hear, let alone say.
What kind of things are you experiencing that lead you to believe your home is haunted? Possibly the sound of footsteps, of doors opening and closing when there is not possible way they are coming from a embodied living person. Maybe the feeling of being watched. The gentle sensation of something, or someone, touching you. Dark shadows quickly catching your glance out of the corner of your eye. The smell of delicious baked goods wafting through your home when no one is baking. Maybe your child is suddenly frightened of sleeping in his room, and telling you there is a man or woman, or even another child messing with their things at night. My own little one, when about two and just beginning to form sentences, suddenly began the event of standing and staring at a wall beside the front door. You could not pull her away from her stance and staring, she would go right back to it and take up the vigil again not saying a word. This went on for several days with nothing we tried distracting her from it. Finally I got down on her level instead of trying to pull her away, and asked her to try to tell me why she keeps staring at this wall. She managed to utter this response, "Man, hurt, face hurt, face ucky", as she motioned with her hand down her own face to emphasize to me what was hurt. It startled me greatly, because the original owner of the house, and the one that still remains in spirit, was in fact trampled beside the house by the cattle one day while feeding. He was a midget, and the cattle rushed him at the feeder to get to the food. They trampled him underfoot and the cause of his death was from severe head injury. Although his presence does not bother me, it disturbed me that he was visually manifesting to my child in his death injury condition. It is not something that you want a two year old to see. Children and animals are much more perceptive to spirits then adults, this because they are untarnished still yet to skepticism and learned opinions and beliefs. They have yet to close off their minds to such phenomena. Do you have an animal that is acting bizarrely for no apparent reason, the hair rising on their backs while essentially looking at something that you cannot see.
Let me take a moment here to talk about the senses. I believe that every human being is concieved with the gifts of the senses. We talk about Clairvoyance (extra-sensory of sight), Clairalience (extra-sensory of smell), Clairaudient (hearing/listening), Claircognizance (knowing), Clairgustance (tasting), Clairsentient (feeling/touching). Man is intended to be the keeper of everything else in existance in this physical realm, and what better way to keep in tune to what what we are to tend and watch over then through all of our senses. I believe that man himself stifles, and over time completely douses, these gifts divinely placed within him. Through learned skepticism and everything else we have thrown at us while growing up, scientific theology, false religious theology, and so on, we quench out our senses. That they are actually not "extra" sensory abilities that some seem to possess, but just natural born sensory abilities that we seem to lose along the way. Some do not and then they appear to be special. Yet, it was still a inborn gift, so ocassionally there is a momentary touching of these senses that comes through. Call it gut instinct, Deja`Vu, sixth sense and any other words that have come to define them as anomalies rather then normal.
Maybe you are hearing whispering voices. Have you ever heard what a spirit voice sounds like? Evps? They are rarely full bodied voices like our own, they are always more like whisperings. I cannot tell you exactly why spirits whisper rather then speak in full bodied voices, except just that..what I said..full bodied. Spirits are disembodied. When you have a physical body, you have vocal cords and all the physical operating parts that cause full body to the sounds we make. Have you ever sat and talked with someone who has suffered, and survived, a bout of throat cancer and they now whisper because the working parts of the body that create sound have been removed? This is what a spirit voice sounds like, whispering or coarse whispering. All entitys in realms above us are in spiritual form and apparently they speak in whispers. My childrens voices, when they were not home, were full bodied, and a residual haunting of a voice that I have experienced on a evp was full bodied. However, again these were residuals, impressions of sound embedded in the structure, and not a spirit speaking. Intelligent haunts can call your name, respond to questions and interact verbally with a living person. Their spirits are alive and well, they just lack physical body.
This page was intended to just give you a better understanding of the spiritual realm and those who inhabit such, and often inhabit or visit our homes. However, after all of this, you may be asking what you can do about it, if you still yet have not found a comfort level with the spirits.
I will still emphasize that if the spirit or spirits are not malicious in any way, just let them be and find a comfort zone with them through trying to understand them. I understand that you may feel like they are visitors that never leave, and you would not allow that with the living, so why the dead? Just keep in mind that they were probably there first and they may consider you as the visitor that never leaves. However, before you even get to the point of determining if you can live with them or they must go, you first need to determine if they even truly exist in your home. This means doing a little paranormal investigating of your own. I believe in beginning all investigations as a skeptic. Not a skeptic about spirits, but skeptical if they actually reside in the particular reported home. In order to get to the point of the unexplained, which is the definition of paranormal, you first have to eliminate all that is explainable.
If you have just recently moved into a newly built home or a different older home, you need to give yourself time to adapt to your new environment. Structures are constantly settling, especially new ones built on freshly turned soil as we know all disturbed soil begins packing down and with it the home begins settling as well. I have seen brand new structures suffer serious drywall cracks in the first few months from the settling of the soil beneath, and if tuning into the event, one surely would have heard the cracking happening. Old homes creak and groan, their wood studs just like our old bones when we are motion. Old plumbing can rattle, shake and shudder when hot water expanding or cold water shrinking them. Little mice can sound like they are the size of large dogs at times when racing through the walls or munching on your wood and wiring. Ice makers can make thumping sounds when dropping ice or eery noises when they fill the trays with water. Furnaces and air condtioning units can thump and hiss. Is there a draft source from the outside? I think you get my point, so first you need to investigate a physical source for sounds that you are hearing. My mother was being plagued by a unusual sound in the evenings around the same time every night, when she was trying to relax and watch television. My mother has lost some of her hearing ability, so it is more difficult for her to discern the fullness of a sound or from where it comes from. It turned out that her dishwasher was going south and kicking up a fuss, but it took one of us spending the evening with her to figure out the source of the disturbance.
You also need to adapt to the new outside environment, or if you have been residing in the home for awhile, be keen to any new additions to the outside environment. Is the neighbors dog or a wild animal getting under your house to dig causing that banging under the floor? Has your neighbor taken up moonlight gardening or socializing and it explains the unusual sounds or the sound of whispering voices. Is he outside with a flashlight looking for Rover and that explains what you percieve to be orbs or flashs of light. Maybe your neighbors driveway is situated in such a way that the light from his headlights reflect off his garage door and splash against one of your inner walls through a window. Did a neighbor bring home a new baby who crys during the night, or often a cat outside sounds like a baby crying. My parents went through an ordeal of their garage door opening and closing on its own. It turned out that the neighbors garage door opener was triggering their garage door. My little one became upset one night while watching tv in her room, angrily stating that someone keeps changing her channel. I called dish network and they found that the neighbor had just had dish hooked up that day and the tech programmed her remote the same as my little girls. The neighbor was channel surfing. Support quickly reprogrammed her remote over the phone and anomaly was solved. I went through an ordeal with my thermostat being changed. In the cold months it would suddenly get very cold in house and I would find that my thermostat was changed down to about 50 from its 72 setting I keep it at. Seemed no matter how many times I set it back, it would be pushed down again. I accused everyone in the house of tampering with the thermostat and everyone insisted they were not touching it. It turned out there was a fault that occurred in the presets feature. My father always wore Old Spice cologne. When I smell this scent I am surrounded with warm thoughts and feelings of my father. One day I walked into the bathroom used by my father at moms house. I was overwhelmed by the scent of his cologne in a diminished tone, like after he had it on all day and it had worn off and mixed with his natural scent. I immediately felt that my dad was there in the room and I realished in his scent. I would have liked to hold onto that as being the case, but it turned out that my mother had purchased a new air freshner for the bathroom, and that my neice had just exited the room without my noticing and had sprayed the stuff. The moral of all this is to not look for ghosts where they are not, but instead investigate and validate where you believe they may be. Go at it with the mind of dispelling any activity as being paranormal, and if at the end you still have totally unexplainable phenomena, then you can determine what your next course of action will be.
Okay, so here we are with you having determined that you truly are experiencing paranormal activity and you do not want to live in harmony with this entity or entities, or maybe you cannot because they are not a harmonious kind of spirit. What now? Again, many spirits have purpose for being there, and unless that purpose is simply to just malinger at what it knows to be it's home, the next logical step would be to try to find out it's purpose. Spirits, for the most part, just merrily go about their own business and do not intend to draw attention to themselves. If they are intentionally trying to get your attention, then there must be a reason. Some may tell you to never communicate with a spirit, that it is dangerous. I too will tell you to never try to communicate with a demonic spirit, in fact do not even acknowledge a demon spirit, even if it is dancing on its head in front of you. Never give a demon spirit an opening to enter into your domain or person. To entertain a demonic spirit is like issuing it an open invitation and unless you are trained to and spiritually strong and sound enough to keep control of that encounter, you are messing with fire. How can you know if a spirit is demonic? Lets just suffice it to say that if you are being presented by a demonic spirit, you will know the difference. There is nothing friendly about them, they are malicious and clearly let it be known that they are evil. But if you have any question of the spirit nature, our group would be happy to investigate the spirit, or another paranormal group near to you would oblige I am sure.
Back to next course of action. First I want you to clearly understand that you have all authority over any and all spirits. It is a God given authority and you need to always exert it. Maybe it will be easier to comprehend this authority if you can visualize that you are the keeper of your physical realm. Spirits have their own realm that is above this physical earth. That is their domain, this is yours. They are in your domain and you have control of that domain. If you are Christian, you will also understand it in that God gives you the authority of Christ over all spiritual beings. Just as Christ commanded the spirits, you also are able to command the spirits in His Name and through the blood He shed for you. You need to have confidence in this fact when dealing with spirits.
Open yourself to reading the spirits intentions, to learn what it is trying to convey to you. Do not be fearful, remember you are in charge. It may be simply trying to introduce itself to you and get your acknowledgement that it is real and abidng with you, or that is watching over you protectively. It may be trying to tell you something, possibly even a warning of something that needs your attention. If its purpose is message oriented, once you get the message it will most likely go away on it's own, it's purpose being fulfilled. If it is a spirit, which probably the majority of them are, that is lingering at home instead of moving on, then you can still make it leave by exerting your authority over it. The most important part of any cleansing of a spirit is having confidence in your authority over it. It really does not take smoke and mirrors to drive out a ghost so to speak. It is like kicking out a guest, just tell them this is your domain and they cannot stay. I am not going to teach full fledged cleansing techniques here, as if you come to the point where your own authority is not resolving the issues, then you just need to call in professionals to take care of it. If you need our help, please feel free to contact us. If you have any qualms over the spirit being demonic, please do not mess with it in any way, call us or another paranormal team in your area, or your local clergy.
