CAPE GIRARDEAU - Minton House - This historic home is now a private residence. At the start of the Civil War this home was owned by Matthew Moore, the publisher of the pro-Confederate newspaper, The Cape Girardeau Eagle, which was taken over by the Union Army to publish pro-Union news. During the war his home was used as a smallpox hospital for soldiers and it's thought that those who died here are responsible for it's haunting.Directions and other pertinent information:

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Old Lorimier Cemetery - This is one of the oldest graveyards in the state, with burials dating back to the Revolutionary War. There are over 1200 Civil War soldiers buried here, some died at the Minton House a block away, which was used as a smallpox hospital, and there are legends of a tunnel running between these two sites. Information on the haunting in this cemetery are incomplete but promising, this site needs to have a thorough investigation.Directions and other pertinent information:

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Mt. Tabor Park - This park has now closed down and is now private property. The voice of an old woman has been reported being heard here, this land is now no longer open to the public. You can no longer visit the site.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just southwest of the city. From the outer loop of I-55 where it meets Ssrk (also called Williams Street) go west on Williams Street for .2 miles and turn left or south on Siemers Drive, drive down it 1.1 miles and turn right on CR205 (also called Bloomfield Road) and drive 1.3 miles. The park will be on the left.

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Spook Hollow - This legend dates back to a story from a news paper from the Post back in 1887 of a haunted stretch of road where a phantom white mist has been reported to be seen along this road.Directions and other pertinent information:Located along a road named Old Orchard Road which is between the cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson just off of the I-55 loop US 61.

CARL JUNCTION - Carl Junction Primary School - Weird noises, footsteps, and voices at night. Also sounds of doors shutting. Usually at night around 12:00 p.m.Directions and other pertinent information:The town is located just northwest of Joplin off SR 171. The address is North Broadway and East Allen.

CARTHAGE - Grand Avenue Bed & Breakfast - A male ghost is reported to haunt the dining room and parlor. People have said the smell of smoking cigars fills these rooms when he is present. Some report there are many more spirits, as much as one in each room.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 1615 Grand Avenue between East Centennial Ave and Euclid Blvd. From where I-44 crosses US 71, take US 71 north for 3 miles where the road splits in two directions; go to the right on SR 571, and continue going north on SR 571 for 1.6 miles to where the road splits again, and go to the right onto Grand Avenue and continue down Grand Avenue for 1.1 miles to the Grand Avenue Bed & Breakfast. CARTHAGE - Kenderick House - This historic home dates back to1840's and was used as a headquarters during the Civil War. This site is rumored to be haunted. CARTHAGE - Logan House - The Logan House is reported to be haunted.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 509 East Chestnut.

CARTHAGE - Civil War Park - Reports of hearing war cries and fighting late at night.Directions and other pertinent information:Located off of Chestnut as you're going out of town behind Carter Park.

CHARLESTON - Upper Big Lake - The ghost of an experienced fisherman haunts the lake. Because he was drowned there by the ghost of his own nephew whom he had killed with a shot gun accidentally

CHILLICHOTHE - Slagle Cemetery/Bridge - Mr. Slagle was one of the first settlers in Livingston County. He built a mill and was a wealthy man. He had several wives and several children, but most of them died mysteriously. Mr. Slagle is said to have murdered them all, but since there was no law in Livingston County yet, he was never officially charged. He was also responsible for the first reported murder in Livingston County. The body of the man he murdered is buried beneath the road that runs past the cemetery. The graves of his wives and children are still there along with his own, and the cemetery is said to be haunted. There is also a very old bridge on the property which is said to be haunted. One of the wives supposedly hung herself from the bridge after the mysterious death of one of her children. There are satanic symbols painted on the bridge, and it is very spooky. There have been several people who have been mysteriously pushed off the bridge and injured when no one was standing around. It used to be a place where teenagers hung out at night, but too many people have been injured and it is now off limits. The current owners of the property have reported hearing mysterious whispers on the bridge and sightings of Mr. Slagle are very common around the cemetery and where the mill stood. The submitter claims to have a picture that they took of the cemetery on a clear night, but on the picture it looks like it is snowing. There are dozens of small orbs and also the transparent figure of a young woman in an old fashioned dress. - December update: The bridge was torn down

CHRISTIAN - Clever - Break Neck Hill - On this steep dirt road near the Christian County/Stone County Line, a headless horseman can be seen riding a specter horse. Sometimes the sound of a horse's hooves can be heard. More than one rider has been killed on that hill over the years.

CLAYTON - Shady Oak Theater - As the story goes, a man killed himself on the grounds before the theater was built. Film has been seen un-winding while sitting on the shelf the lobby speaker has shot off its hook only to be found 15 ft away in the middle of the floor. People cleaning up after hours have felt a weird, uneasy feeling of being watched from the curtains at either side of the stage. Balcony lights have dimmed, only to slowly gain light again. Posters in the lobby have been found off their hooks or turned around when the theater opens in the morning. Cold spots have been felt & even someone saying "tisk,tisk,tisk", sneering & even faint moaning from behind the curtains that lead to the back when no one is around. Not a place you want to be alone in after it closes.

CLINTON - Community Counseling Consultants (Rehab center) - Lights turning themselves on and off... faucets on and off. Doors shutting themselves and opening themselves. A definite feeling that you are being watched in one of the rooms and the cold touches that are commonly felt with hauntings.

CLINTON - Old Grain Mill - For many years people have heard strange noises coming from the building at night. The noises sound like someone is whispering. Some night’s lights are seen moving from one window to the other.

COLUMBIA - Columbia College - St. Clair Hall - January 2007 Correction Formerly listed as Miller Hall - When the college was founded in the mid 1800's as a girl’s Christian school Miller was the main building and the students' dorm was in the attic. There was a fire in the dorm room and supposedly one of the girls died in her bed. The attic is now off limits to students behind a black steel door always kept locked and is used for storage. Janitorial staff and security have reported hearing a sound like a mewing cat or footsteps from the room, but never can find the source of the noises.

COLUMBIA - Katy Trail - Under a bridge on the Katy Trail only on full moons you see a young man with a missing left arm walk back and forth with no facial expressions.

COLUMBIA - Devils Ice Box Cave - Glowing apparitions have been seen in this cave where deaths have occured inside, and others have reported strange feelings from the cave.Directions and other pertinent information:Located south of Columbia. From where US 63 meets SR 163, take SR 163 west for 4.7 miles. The cave will be on your left in the park.

COLUMBIA - St. Stephens College - Pillsbury/Roblee Dorm Hall - There are three women that will sing to you at night and tuck you in, they have been affectionately named, "The Blue Ladies." Many students residing in these dorms report hearing lullabies being sung.

COLUMBIA - St. Stephens College - Searcy Hall - A student gave birth to a child and then for unknown reasons, left it in a locker to die. Students have heard what sounds like a baby crying at night.

COLUMBIA - St. Stephens College - Senior Hall - young lady watched her Confederate soldier lover, that she was hiding, be discovered and killed. She hung herself in the bell tower of her dorm and haunts it today, searching for her lost love. - May 2008 Correction: This is the story of Sarah, the ghost who mourns for her civil war deserter lover who was hanged. The bell tower she supposedly hung herself from wasn't even in existence at the time of her death, it was built much later. COLUMBIA - St. Stephens College - Tower Hall - Students were reported seeing themselves doing homework and chatting in the halls. - May 2008 Additional information: Probably the most violent haunted location on campus. The fifth floor is closed due to a fire that occurred there. The elevators and stairs are locked but one day just to see if the elevator would indeed not work some students tried to take it up to the fifth floor, and it worked. Once inside they began asking questions with their tape recorder going and they got a chill and an eerie feeling. They immediately ran out and later played the tape, only to discover there were at least 2 ghosts up there. One was a very friendly gentleman's voice and the other a very rude and violent girl's voice that named herself as "Stacy." Since then the elevators haven't worked, they have tried again and again, but if you live on the fourth floor you can hear the furniture moving among other noises, which can't be explained. Though the fire did not kill anyone there was a suicide that occurred some 20 years ago by a girl who had been raped on the fifth floor. She threw herself off the roof and landed at the stairs, as for the man's voice it is not known where he comes from.

COLUMBIA - The Missouri Theater - This theater is haunted by the ghost of the former owner, who makes clanking noises and the curtains have been known to rise and fall without prompting.Directions and other pertinent information:<203 South 9th Street. CREVE COEUR - Creve Coeur Park - Creve Coeur is French for "broken heart". In the late 1800's a beautiful daughter of an Indian chief married a strong warrior. They were madly in love but the warrior, like many of the Indian men did, had to go off in hunting parties. These hunting parties would go on for at least 6 months. When the party finally came back her husband did not come back, he had died along the way home. She, who was heartbroken, went to the top of the cliff that is right at the entrance of the park, and jumped off into the water bellow. Now the water falling from the cliff is only in little drops, like tears. At night, and on a quiet day, you can hear a woman cry, and several other people, presumed to be the crying of the loved ones she left behind. Only on full moons, whether you're standing at the bottom of the cliff, or on the lake looking on from a boat, you can see a woman at the top of the cliff looking down crying, she never seems to realize other people are around her. Often she jumps off, freighting the onlookers who think a mortal has just jumped. When people see this the go to the cliff to try and help the mysterious lady, but when the get there no one is there. Recently while 3 men were hiking at night, they claimed to see a woman walking in front of the crying. When one of the men, who was of Indian descent, went to approach her she hugged him, and started speaking to him in her native tongue. Since he could not understand her he just shook his head. She ran off crying when he did not converse with her. The 3 men, now intrigued, followed her, while she ran to the cliff and jumped off. The three men were terrified, not because she jumped but because she disappeared in mid-air.

CROCKER - Cry Baby Hollow - Located off DD hwy. just outside Crocker, if you go there between 11:50P.M. and 12:20 A.M. you will see a flash of light like a door opening and hear a baby crying and screams, then hear the mother crying for her child , all the while there are sets of evil looking red eyes in various spots around you. It was rumored that the woman was pregnant and while on a hiking trip fell into a ravine and that by time her rescuers got to her that she was already dead. Also the same location is rumored to be a gateway to hell.(WARNING: most people who go there and are brave enough to stay through the whole experience have some kind of Vehicle trouble upon trying to exit the hollow.(I.E.) flat tires mysterious claw marks on the vehicle, and even wrecks!!!). Update: There once was a house in the area where Cry Baby Hollow is and large ceder trees in the area, which was common around old homesteads. The house is no longer there and was torn down so the site is not what it once was. The true story is that a toddler wandered away from the house and became lost. A storm was in the area making it difficult to search and find the child. The child could be heard but because of the weather it was difficult to locate. The mother refused to give up her search and eventually succumbed to the elements as did the child. Supposedly at night you can sometimes hear the child crying and see an image of the mother searching. (Note from PP team member: I live near Cry Baby Hollow and have a tale to tell about the site. It was in 1995 if I remember correctly, and it was the night of Halloween. My 18 year old daughter came home early crying and shaking, more like hysterical. She told me that her and her boyfriend were just back road cruising and they ended up down at Cry Baby Hollow. She said everything was fine until they were leaving, and then the car started going crazy, the headlights going on and off, staying off for minutes at a time. They intially thought it was just a short or something, but she then they realized that every time the lights went out, when they came back on they were going the opposite direction of what they were going. She said they would get turned around again and heading back out and it would happen again, it was like the something would not let them leave the road and the impossible was happening, like a hand was just reaching down and turning the car the opposite direction and or the road was flipping itself when the lights went out. She claimed they were stuck doing this same thing over and over again for an hour or so and she thought they would never get off the road or come home again, the reason so hysterical. I inquired if maybe they just somehow kept getting confused with the lights out and somehow was getting on another road that took them in a circle or something, but she said there was no way that could happen and no, she was telling it like it happened. I do not know the area and to this day have not visited the site but have heard other things about since her event. But it continues. I finally got her calmed down enough to get her to get ready and go to bed. Her bedroom was the only one in the lower level of the house off the family room and she had her separate bathroom there. After she went down to get ready for bed, I heard her scream and she about took me out at the top of the stairs, once more hysterical. She said she went in the bathroom and when she flipped on the light there was a face looking at her in the mirror. So I went down to look for myself. She had pulled the door shut as she ran, and when I opened the door and looked at the mirror, it was like it jumped off its hook and slammed down and shattered in the sink. I also retreated quite quickly and she stayed upstairs with me that night. There were no more incidents after that night, but all I could think was that something either followed her home or it was just a very prankful All Hallows Eve for the spirits that ended with daybreak). *Please note that the area is heavy with meth labs and it is said to be dangerous wandering around the area because of this.Directions and other pertinent information:Located SE of Crocker where Mo-DD, Basin Rd and Bunker Rd meet. Off DD highway outside of Crocker (towards Waynesville)-follow to the end and take a right on the gravel. It's approximately 2 to 4 miles down at the bottom of a ravine (hollow) on a low water bridge.

CROCKER - Mitchell Cemetery - The Mitchell Family was a prominent family & had a chapel built near the east end of HH Hwy. It was built as a gift to the new church, they had an organ imported from Germany as well. According to the locals, the family was found murdered & buried together in the small cemetery next to the church. Fire destroyed both the house & the church, leaving just the cemetery. It is reported that on certain nights you will hear the faint sound of organ music, & if you knock on the tombstone of Mary Mitchell & ask her any question, she will answer you.Directions and other pertinent information:

Hawkeye Cemetery, from Crocker take Hwy U 9 miles NW to Hawkeye, when you reach hawkeye the black top turns, if you go straight you hit gravel....follow gravel 150' then left on gravel 1/2 mile to hawkeye church.

CRYSTAL CITY - K-Mart - Over the years many things have happened in the parking lot at Kmart. People have been shot, robbed, Kidnapped, and even murdered. The employees have to walk to the far end of the parking lot after leaving the closed store and say that weird and unusual events have occurred. They say they hear gunshots, a screaming girl, and that they see headlights shining on their car. Generally this happens late at night, and Kmart suggest that the workers there have a "walking buddy" going out to there car.

CUBA - Cuba Middle School gym - A ghost supposedly by the name of "Joe Beisly" haunts the school. He was a very loyal janitor and he fell off a ladder and now people say that if you call his name 3 times he will appear. *Note: It has been reported that this is not a true story, just an urban legend, so if the school is haunted it is not because someone named Joe died there.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 1 Wildcat Pride Drive, the cross streets are Franklin Street and Prairie Street.

DAVISVILLE - Woodlock Cemetery - Notice to all paranormal researchers and visitors: The owner of this cemetery does not want anyone trespassing into this cemetery and he will proscecute. He has asked that we get his feelings and repercussive actions concerning this location out to the public, so please respect this owners feelings.

DESOTO - Old ST.Louis Road - This road and the surrounding woods are said to be haunted. The story is that in the 1800's it was used to get to St. Louis from Farmington. Between 1800 and 1954 thousands of people died on this road and now they haunt the road. The directions are to follow Old Charter Church Road until you come to a gravel road that leads into the woods. Keep moving at a speed of about 15 or 20 mph. Continue going for about three to five minutes and then stop the car. Turn everything off and sit in complete silence with your window halfway down, and all the way if really brave. They say many things begin to happen such as sounds of people talking in the woods and people walking around. The most common report is that a girl begins screaming very faintly and it continues to get louder and louder and then abruptly stops. Momentarily a man covered in blood comes out of the woods and begins conversing with you. Another thing reported is that when you start to leave, you suddenly see a car flipped over in the road with a man that asks you to help him turn his car back over. Supposedly right before this vision, or after, you will start feeling hands and fingers touching you all over your legs and body.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just a few miles south of town. It's located on the east side of Mo-E south of Downs Road and north of Summer Set Drive. Off Hwy 67 and Old Charter Church Rd.

DESOTO - Arlington Bed & Breakfast Inn - Orb photos have been taken in the basement of this Bed & Breakfast.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 207 East Main Street 63020-2140, between East Clement and Rankin Street.

DESOTO - Vineland Elementary - At night it is said that ghost roams the hallways at night! and the staff has seen weird things at night! A Grandmother tells the story of many years ago as a girl, she had snuck out of her house to see her boy friend in the middel of the night and walking past the school she saw a ghostly arm coming out of one of the windows.

DESOTO - Vineland Road - If you travel down that road day or night there is said to be a house that used to be owned by a man that owned slaves. They say you can hear voices and see lights and if you walk in the house be very careful because it is very old and not in good condition. They say if you pull up to the columns entering the driveway not to go between them or past them or you will not get out.

DEXTER - Witch's House - There is supposedly in the woods (location unknown), a witch's house where supposedly she threw her husband off of the balcony and now he roams the woods looking for revenge.

DEXTER - Hagy Cemetery - This cemetery is reported to be haunted. There was a suicide inside Hagy Cemeteryin 2000. One story is the person hanged themselves in the big oak tree that overlooks the entrance, but it has been stated that they beliefs that the cemetery is haunted went way back before the suicide ever happened. There have been reports of sightings of a young boy apparation sitting under a tree reading and when you approach him, he disappears. Reports of giant animals with red glowing eyes. It is also the burial site of a famous rodeo performer named Indian Chief Ed Eagle.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just north of Dexter where Hagy Drive, also known as Country Road 602 and North Hickory Street meet.

DEXTER - Sadlers Cemetery - Reports of seeing a dog with red glowing eyes.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just NW of Dexter on State Highway Ad where it meets Country Road 468. This location is also know by the name Sadlers Chapel.

DEXTER - Dexter Cemetary and Boogie Woods - One report stated that it is haunted because a girl was raped and murdered in the cemetery, but another reporter states that the girl, Linda Johnson was actually raped and murdered in the boogie woods in 1978. It is stated that Boogey Woods is haunted due to this, plus there are several old cemeterys and Indian burial grounds throughout the woods.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on the East end of Town by Highway 25

DEXTER - Triplett Cemetery - This is an old church and cemetery in Boogie Woods where according to legend they burned a witch. Linda Johnson's body was actually found in the yard of this old church. The area is also known as "East of Jesus" because at one time it was a party spot for teenagers. Most of the area is now closed off.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on the East end of Town by Highway 25

DEXTER - Holmes House - This approximately two hundred year old home is reported to be haunted by several spirits. It was abandoned since 1980 until the reporter of it being haunted, his friend purchased it. The renovation of the house stopped and rumors were that strange things started happening again when the contractors tried to restore it. They since have resumed restoration but no word if there is further activity with the resuming of the work.Directions and other pertinent information:Located in Dexter, address unknown at this time.

DIAMOND ISLAND - Diamond Island - Reports of a large orange-red ghost light that moves about the island at night. It was also referred to as Devils Island by some. The story is that there was a witches coven that met on the island and held their meetings/rituals there. They would build huge bonfires on the river bank. It was said human sacrifices where made there. There used to be a ferry that took you to the other side of the Mississippi from Elsberry.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 7 miles east of Elsberry, MO and 2 miles north of Hardin, IL.

DIEHLSTADT - Tressel - About half a mile into the woods there is a creek that an old set of train tracks used to go across, and one night a homeless man was walking down the tracks sometime around midnight and he had sat down to catch his breathe and fell asleep. The man woke up to the vibration of the tracks but didn't get up in time and the train ran over his neck and decapitated him. Now if you go out there around midnight on a certain day you can see him stumbling around looking for his head.

DIXON - Wheeler Cemetery - This is an old cemetery named Wheeler. It is located about five miles down a county road off of DD hwy. There are several babies and young children buried in this grave yard with at least one of a tragic death. Also, there are several teens and individual in there early twenties who had died of beheading, drowning, car accidents, and murder. Hauntings are very prevalent in this location. It will always be windy inside the cemetery gates, without any wind on the outside. You can tell this without even stepping a foot into the cemetery by the flag that is seated in the middle of the yard, the flag is lit up at night so you can still check out the ghostly wind. Activity that has been known at this location includes: Front gate opening and closing by itself. Scratching under the ground. Green and Red orbs visible by eye and on camera, and finally TONS OF EVP'S.

DONIPHAN - Doniphan Cemetery(in the downtown district) - There's a statue of an angel (one that is a woman, not a child). The legend has it, that if you go there at midnight on a full moon only, that the statue cries bloody tears. It sometimes lasts till 1:00 A.M. And during this "witching" hour, it's said that you can walk through the graveyard, and hear the faint voices of the dead. Some people (including myself) have seen a white woman in the back of the cemetery coming out of the wall of one of the old crypts and walking along the row of headstones. She carries a white cat with no head, and cries mournfully. Legend says that she was a lady who lived in the area in the late 1920s. Her indoor cat ran outside and she ran after it. When she scooped her beloved cat up in her arms in the middle of the street, they were both run over by a beer wagon.

DOOLITTLE / NEWBURG - Goatman - There are tales of a half goat, half man creature haunting the woods in the Doolittle/Newburg area. Some have reported seeing red eyes staring at them and the feeling of being watched, their animals being frightened. One of our team members lived in the area and experienced a frightening phenomenon of this type. Late at night while getting wood from the shed, she heard a strange grunting sound and looked up to see red eyes watching her over the chest high back fence. She quickly retreated inside. The next morning she found her doberman pincher dead (that was housed in the shed) and her entire litter of new puppies missiing. Her neighbor told her, in her seeking help, that they have experienced whatever the thing is, that one night their large sized dog who is normally vicious, took out the entire back door trying to escape it. Many have told her it is goatman.Directions and other pertinent information:Doolittle and Newburg exit off I-44 West of Rolla. To get to the area where our team member lived, you take the exit ramp and then turn right at the top of the ramp and make another right onto the outer road and go down to the first county road on the left and go out to the T in the road. The house she lived in was the only house there in the corner of the T, at the time. Unknown as to if more housing there now.

DREXEL / CLEVELAND / FREEMAN - Gravity hill - The mile marker is 327th if you take a right and go over the railroad tracks and go to the very top of the hill and turn around and go to the bottom of that hill and sit in your car with it in park (DONT TURN THE engine off ) and be patient you will feel the car move forward its all on flat land with a bit of a incline so if its going forward up the incline while in park. Addition: It is said that when you place you car engine in neutral at the bottom of the small hill just east of the rail road tracks your automobile will roll back to the top. Local urban legends tell the tale of a school bus wreck at the bottom of this hill which resulted in the deaths of the children on the bus. Locals account of their experience, "You are supposed to put powder on the front hood of your car (more towards the bumper) and some on the back.(near the bumper)... you then put the car into neutral and yes turn off your lights lock your doors and hold on tight!! You will glide backwards.. sometime farther and sometimes faster than other times tried! But here is my story: Me and my friends went out there like 5 times... and we put the powder on the car .. and every time we got done backing up we would drive forward to the top of the hill and turn around... and every time that we turned around and looked there would be a light above the train tracks that would come on right when we got done and got to the top of the hill!! Ya that is sooooooo creepy!!! Anyways after driving a little farther away from the spot.. we got out and checked the car and the powder clumps weren't smudged.. they were still there.. and you would think that the wind would of messed them up.. but no .. there were actual finger prints in random places.. and a smudge or two - don't park your car actually on the hill to where you aren't on level ground just because that just gives away the spookiness."Directions and other pertinent information:It is outside of Drexel, Missouri. It is very cool and has a creepy feel to it. If you know where Harrisonville, MO is, that is a good starting point. Head west on 2 highway towards Drexel. You will eventually pass Mid-Way high school and then come to an intersection with another highway (sorry, don't know the name). Turn left and continue on in this direction for about 10-15 minutes. You will have to turn right on a little dinky gravel road. You will recognize it is it because there is a house on the left with a large sign in the front. I have seen it listed as Freeman, not sure why.

DUMAS - The Dumas Railroad Bridge - In northeast Missouri there are train tracks that are haunted by a headless woman that died in a train wreck many years ago. At least every night she appears around 11:00pm every night in the tunnel below the tracks. - May 2005 Update: the train wreck that spurned the headless woman story occurred in late summer, or early fall of 1892, with sketchy fatality lists stating approx. 13-27 deaths, many being thrown into the river. Therefore, the wreck occurred near the river overpass nearly 1/2 mile from the tunnel underpass. They believe the woman's head was lost to the river and now she eternally seeks it. She walks in the fall, mostly. When she passes thru you, you will feel like a thousand icicles stabbing thru you. Also, there is a cemetery south of Dumas, mostly Catholic burials, with one being a 104 year old woman from Ireland. A visitor was "attacked" by the presence of something malicious there one night and it took a Christian psychic to remove the spirit as it was feeding off their energy. Whatever dwells outside this cemetery is neither human nor animal but something from a dark place. The tunnel underpass itself is benign, only haunted by ignorant teenagers who deface it with their graffiti. There is a small dwelling adjacent to the tunnel where a huge, mean dog lived, now dead. His ghost still roams there. It has orange, glowing eyes. There are also several dead babies buried around the area. A woman kept having miscarriages and her husband buried the corpses all around the area. In the 1950's, a man committed suicide in the forest near the river by drinking poison and his body or skeleton, rather, was found sitting under a tree.Directions and other pertinent information:The town is now no longer located on most maps, it is located in the extreme north west corner of the state. From the town of Revere go south on SSRC it's the main road for .2 mile south of town past the railroad tracks and turn east or left on a local road and go down it for 2.4 miles and turn left or north on another local road, go down this road for 2.7 miles, it will dead end onto another road just past the railroad tracks, this is Dumas, turn right on this road and drive .3 miles to the railroad bridge.

DUNKLIN COUNTY - Senath - Seneth Light - It is said that a light appears and comes toward you. Cars are said to lose their power, as the light nears. If the light reaches your car, it is said that where it comes to rest, the paint will be scorched or bubbled. The Seneth light is located off HWY 412. Most anyone you ask can tell you the location of the dirt road.

EAST PRAIRIE - The Light - Just right off of BB Hwy. Theres a sight where the old rail road tracks used to be. It is reported a man Fell asleep on the railroad track back in the 1930's. The man supposidly walking trying to find his light and got tired and fell asleep, after walking so far. As the story goes a train came along and before the guy could get up the wheel of the rail road engine severed his head. Thy Myth is that he walks the railroad with the light he finally found after being killed continuing to look for his head. I my self have not witnessed this, but have heard many stories about it from different people, all telling me the same story.

ELDON - Eldon Highschool - Supposedly when the old locker rooms under the gymnasiam collapsed or burnt down, a girl was caught and died. To this day she has been seen at night near the restrooms and in the hallways of the school. Her name is Maude not sure how to spell it. The other story is where the Ag shop is now there used to be a house that either burnt or a little girl died in there and this is where maude originates from. Don't know which one is true.

ELLISVILLE - Zombie Road - In the mid 1980's a man was walking along the railroad tracks from one town to another when he was hit by a train. >From time to time people see the man walking by the tracks and being hit.

ELSBERRY - Elsberry Highschool - There has been a number of sightings around the highschool including one a a little girl who was supposedly locked in back in 1972. TVs go on and off by themselves and people start bleeding for no reason there has also been sightings of a bloody man down in the basement of the school.

ELSBERRY - Oak Ridge Cemetery - Reports of ghost photos being taken from this cemetery. A paranormal team obtained photos of a figure on top of the barn/shed, that seems to be sitting with it's knee propped up. In the shot after, it was gone. They also obtained a photo of a face floating above the ground near the bottom of the shed. Go hereto see one persons report and photos at this location.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 4 miles NW of town. Take Hwy 79 N of town for 2 miles and turn left or west on (CC). Take CC west for 1 mile to where it splits into two, continue on the right or NW fork in the road for another 1 mile, the cemetery will be on your left or south side.

ELSBERRY - Haunted Caves - The caves are considered and called "Devil Worshipping Caves", but I have no information on why. The caves are said to be evil and haunted. There are 3 openings to the cave and one local says one of them he would not go near because it scared him that much.Directions and other pertinent information:Located right before you go into Elsberry, coming from St. Louis on 79 make a right onto Old Hwy 79 and direct right, follow the gravel road about 1 mile. The caves will be to your right.

ELSBERRY - Star Hope Baptist Church - Reported to be very active for ghosts.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on the west side of Hwy 79 just outside of Elsberry.

ELSBERRY - Hillcrest Subdivision - Stated to be "ghost central station". Reports of a figure that some people called the Phantom, and stated to have so many spirits that it would be a long list. Locals state of the town of Elsberry itself "that the devil lived there". More then one resident of the subdivision has reported and verified the activity there.Directions and other pertinent information:Exact location within the town of Elsberry unknown, but sure locals can direct you.

ELSBERRY - Nortons Woods - There have been sightings of unexplainable things here. ELWOOD - Railroad crossing on ab hwy. - in the warm months a woman is seen getting up from the tracks and walking then staggering off of them but nobody can be found in the area . Believed to be a bartender who was hit by a train one night a few years ago. Also a rottwiler dog can be seen chasing a rabbit just past the tracks heading north. believed to be the bradshaw family dog killed by a car 8/14/06

EMMINENCE - Alley Spring Mill - This is a historical site with lots of parking, camping and free access. It is open year round as well.

ETHEL - White Oak Cemetery - This cemetery in this little town is very haunted. It has been said that white mists float over the graves at all times of the day. Plus, mysterious people have been seen around that area and weird sounds can be heard all the time.

ETTERVILLE - Gageville road - It is known of two children running around an old church that is no longer used. The first child is a girl and the second child is a boy. These children will run and follow you on this road. This occurs at night. They will kick rocks and throw them. It is known that these two children were beat and killed by their parents in this church. Also if you go into the church at night (which the church is in the middle on no-where in the woods) the children will call your name and if you have a flash light or something that has light the lights will turn off and all you will hear are the two children calling your name and playing.

EUREKA - Eureka 6 Cinema - When closing the theater at night, employees have seen a face peering at them from the projection booth window. This occurs after the theatre is locked and no one can be found in the booth. - March 2008 update – has been torn down.

EUREKA - Ramada Inn - Six Flags - A witness that worked at Ramada on 3rd shift doing laundry and stocking closets for housekeepers for about 3 years, experienced some very strange things. One night they saw shadows across the dryers. They were there for about 30 sec. then they disappeared. The little girl who haunts there lived there long ago with her family. The story says that she was in the barn, which is now the banquet halls and front desk area, and she fell out one of the upper windows. They say her name is Aggie. Witnesses have seen her many times running the halls. She likes to play by peeking around the corner and as soon as you see her she takes off. You can also see her sometimes in the huge mirror in the banquet hall. There is also a room in the 300's where a man killed himself. One morning a couple of older ladies got to their room {the room where the man killed himself} and when they went into the bathroom they saw a man dead in the bath tub and they came running and screaming. When the bathroom was checked, there was nothing there. The ladies checked out and found another place to stay. These are just a few of many weird happenings at the Ramada Inn at Six Flags.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - The Elms - The lap pool in the basement is actually haunted by a fully grown male (See next entry). They've traced him back to the "speak easy" days when the mob liked to spend their time gambling in the hotel. In those days the lap pool was just a basement that consisted of blocked off rooms where the mafia could store liquor and gamble all night. The gentleman that haunts down there was supposedly killed by the mob over a disagreement of some sort. There is also a grown woman that haunts the 3rd floor of the elms. She was a maid for here in the twenties and she can still be seen in her twenties maid attire, watching the other maids to make sure they are doing their work correctly. This hotel is full of odd noises, feelings and there is a constant presence about it.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Elms Resort and Spa - It is noted by many that the lap pool area in the basement of the hotel is haunted. It is noted that a female figure, is walking around looking for her child. She has a tendency to get a little upset, so she will pull your hair, or throw something across the room. She is known to move objects and touch people. A local reports "I would sneak into the Elms when it was closed down in the mid 70s and explored it on several occasions. We did witness things, footsteps/poundings and the last time we went in the hotel we were chased out by something. I myself think it was demonic by the voices we heard, and people in town have heard of the pumpkin house directly behind the Elms, right behind the old horse stable, it is said to be extremely haunted."Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 401 Regent Street at the cross streets of Elms Blvd and Garland Street.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Excelsior Springs Middle School - Last school year a boy named Donny passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning and had his funeral in the gym if you walk in to the gym at 2:30 You will see him playing his Guitar

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Hall of Waters - Reports of an apparition of a boy by the pool.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Odell Sports Center - Witnesses report seeing a Male figure in the shower and then a locker slammed shut and a strange laugh.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Roosevelt School- For decades this school's stage has said to be haunted, after "Penny" a cast member hung herself during a school play because of a pregnancy. It is said that she still haunts Roosevelt (recently shut down) and the surroundings to this day.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Tryst Falls - Many years ago, an African American woman drowned her baby to keep it from being exposed to slavery. At night sometimes you can hear the baby crying or see the apparition of the mother.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Wolf Hollow - there is an old abandon house that is out on an old road. When you pull up you get a sense of chills and shivers. This is the place where the KKK used to hang the African Americans that they tortured. When you walk up to the house you sometimes hear sounds and see things in the house like clothes on a line hanging there.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - the village - An old village of 8 houses back in the woods said to once of been a hotel. The so-called lobby you can see form the road is the biggest building. All the windows are boarded up. Also has been said to been their as slave houses during the civil war. One of the windows (the only one not boarded up) has a set of child’s toys and over 500 marbles lying all over the floor. At night said people hearing children crying, couples fighting or arguing, screams of people saying stop please stop and can look through the open window at night and the marbles would be dropping and rolling on the floor slowly.

FAIRFAX - Walkup Grove Cemetery - A little girl was seen by an old school house. Strange occurrences have taken place such as cars starting or not running in the area. Strange lights appear in photographs.

FARMINGTON - Old Salem Church and Cemetery - It is reported that there used to be a furnace in the middle of the church and one of the servers slept in the church and the church had burned to the ground that night. The boy's body was never found but they put up a tombstone up for him in the cemetery across the bridge anyway. If you go to the fence to look at night the sky gets very hazy and you can see people walking around and when you go to leave there will be a male ghost standing at the fence watching you and your tires will get stuck on the gravel road.*The church was rebuilt in around the 30's and is now off limits because it is slanting, but it is still said to be haunted.

FARMINGTON - Valley Mines - Go to Valley Mines and take a left on the very first road on your left. Possibly a gravel road, and it's hard to see. Awhile down, there is a sign on your right that says Valley Mines tours. Go during the day, and you can get a tour. Such things have happened as we stepped into the house that had all open doors, and it immediately turned 30 degrees colder when we got inside. Also, a gh`st woman on the top floor will pull hair and such. The tour guide has pictures of ghosts who have visited, and they even have psychics come down during Halloween.

FAUCETT - Mid-Buchanan High School - Locker Doors open and close on their own. In the high school art room many hear the sounds of a young girl crying. Many young high school kids from this school died in car wrecks, swimming accidents, electrical shock, and other mysterious accidents.

FARRENBURG - The Farrenburg Ghost Light - The ghost light can be viewed from where the abandoned train station still stands along the railroad grade. The train tracks are no longer present. The ghost light is seen in the distance along the railroad grade. The story of this haunting involves an accident to the conductor of the train at this old train station. While he was checking the train axles, he slipped, falling under the train which decapitated him. The spook light is said to be of a conductors lantern and him walking the tracks, as you walk closer to this light it disappears, and when you turn around to walk back from where you came from, it will reappear in front of you again. Some say it is the conductor looking for his head, and some say once they removed the tracks it was never seen again. The light is described as a small bright white lite about the size of a softball that appears about 300 yards in front of you, and as you got closer, it would disappear, sometimes it would reappear behind you. An local old timer tells this tale about the ghost light, supposedly, a young man coming home after WWI was standing on the steps of the train, getting ready to jump off at the station when he slipped and fell under the train. He was decapitated but his head was never recovered, and without his head, he could not be buried in consecrated ground. The light is his father walking the tracks with a bull lantern, looking for the son's head. A adult family member of this gentleman states that she has witnessed the light, that it bounced off their car while there. She tells of her experience, "We saw the white light, which starts out the size of a baseball but gets larger as it comes closer. The white light is supposedly the train's headlight. It will come up close, then zoom backwards, then come back up again. We also saw a small red light in the opposite direction from where the white light appeared. This light looked like a small railroad lantern, and it seemed to be swinging back and forth on the tracks as if someone was signaling with it. We got interested in looking at the red light, and when we turned to look for the white light again, it was right next to the passenger side window of the car. That's when we took off. Haven't been back since, but you can't convince me it was foxfire or swamp gas. As far as I can remember, the white light looked "solid" like a headlight or a large white flashlight. I couldn't see through it. One of my sisters said when they went out, it bounced across the hood of their car. The little red light also looked real, not hazy, and moved in an arc across the tracks. The white light got larger as it got closer to us. Absolutely no noises with the lights. That's what made it scary....we thought it might be people out there with flashlights just to scare kids, but we would have heard footsteps on the gravel fill I think." Following is another person's account of their experience. "On the other side of the creek was a white light swinging back and forth and two of us got out and went down the road and came back and told us they seen a man walking with the light, that he would go into the water and come out of the water; but when they went closer to him he vanished . So then we all got out and went down there, and there was a neon blue light almost like an orb light hovering over the place that appeared to be the trestles and there were tiny blue glowing lights on the ground all around. One of us went to pick one of them up, but it was gone so he lit his cigarette lighter and it disappeared. This was around 5 am and we stayed the rest of the night .....we could hear a train out there and as far as i know we were no where near town or train tracks, i don't remember seeing any..." Another thing reported is that when you start to leave, you suddenly see a car flipped over in the road with a man that asks you to help him turn his car back over. Supposedly right before this vision, or after, you will start feeling hands and fingers touching you all over your legs and body.Directions and other pertinent information:Farrenburg is located to the east of of I-55 between Kewanee and Matthews on CR 707. The ghost light can be viewed from where the abandoned train station still stands along the railroad grade.

FAYETTE - Lilac Hill - The ghost of a woman has been reported to haunt this home. This home is listed as a historic Missouri home, it's a private residence now and not open to the public.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 1/2 a mile south west of Fayette on SR5, the home is past State Route DD on SR5.

FESTUS - Festus Middle School - A little boy was hung in the gym while doing Peter Pan. Students have gone down there when it is dark and they have been contacted by the ghost of this little boy.

FESTUS - Haunted Railroad Crossing - When you travel across the RR crossing, at midnight their is a man and lady that walks down the tracks holding hands. One night they were going across these tracks and a train struck their car. Addition: This location is reported to be haunted after a fatal traffic accident occurred when an automobile was struck by a passing train. People report seeing lights in photos and videos taken there, that are not visible to the human eye when taking the footage or photos.Directions and other pertinent information:On old Hwy A, also called Hillsboro Road. From I-55 take Old Hwy A west for 1.9 miles to the rail road crossing marked on the map as Silica.

FLORENCE - Rosemary's Bridge - A woman was murdered on this bridge. Her ghost still comes back and walks on the bridge at night

FLORISSANT - Haunted Insane Asylum - This haunted insane asylum is located on McLaran road which is off of Jenning's station road. You keep your eye on the left while driving and you'll know which house it is. Witnesses report hearing music and seeing orbs everywhere.

FLORISSANT - Parker Roads Elementary - A lot of people might not know this, but this elementary school is an eerie place. About sixty years ago, before the school was ever built and before the neighborhood around was constructed, there was a cemetery in the area where the school is now. The state ordered the owners of Leaf Brown Cemetery to dig up the graves so that the bodies could be relocated to another cemetery. Well, the diggers stupidly forgot to remove one of the bodies. The reason they didn't notice it there before, was because the body was buried so deep. Now, the ghost of the dead body haunts the elementary school. Some children have spotted the ghost in some of the bathrooms. It is said that the ghost is a woman in a black dress with long blond wavy hair, and no eyes. She sometimes approaches the children quickly and tries to catch them. Luckily they've managed to get away. They say teachers and other faculty can't see the ghost. Only children can see her.

FORT LEONARD WOOD - Bravo Co. basic training barracks - In the men’s restroom (the first one on the left) of on the third floor you can hear the sound of a girl laughing. Also at around three in the morning in the showers there is a three foot tall apparition with ping pong sized eyes that look like an animals when you shine a light in them it wears a black robe with hood. It ducks and weaves then breaks off into a sprint after you.

FORT LEONARD WOOD - Partridge Preschool - A four-year-old girl was supposedly killed here. She swings on her favorite swing in the playground, so you will see it swinging without any wind and without any of the other swings moving. Also, if you rattle the doors and wait, she'll rattle them back at you. Late at night, she listens to music in one room near her swing. The music stops and starts as she pleases, and it's played very loudly at times. Also, the playground toys in the back are in HER particular places, so if you move them around and leave for a little while, don't be surprised if they are back in their original places when you return to them.

FORT LEONARD WOOD - Thayer Elementary School - Once in the early 1980's a teacher left to take a note to the office leaving a girl as a room monitor. During this time the students still sitting in their seats giggled as a chalkboard eraser scooted back and forth by itself along the little rail running along the bottom edge of the blackboard. The girl who was the room monitor had no idea what everyone thought was so funny.

FRANKLIN COUNTY - Sullivan - Glaser Road and State Park - There was a "mist" appeared to many teenagers in the late 50's and early 60's on Glaser Road. They nicknamed it the Blob. Also on the same road starting in the 60's and goes on today but only on occasion a light appears and dances around in the sky and sometimes on the road. Another light has been seen in the State Park, which is on down past Glaser road. This light was seen as early as 1940's. It is large and round. It changes colors like a bubble. My father saw it in the early 40's while he was in the CCC camp. He and a friend were walking back to camp and it followed them. In the early 60's my science teacher at Sullivan High School went to investigate these lights that all us kids were talking about. He took a friend with him. It took all night but they did see it.

FREDERICK TOWN - Old Fredericktown Rd., off of OO Hwy. - If you drive about a half mile down this gravel road and look off into the woods on the right side, you can see where there is a cleared off place in the woods and an old tire swing hanging from a tree. It is said that an old man and his daughter lived there many years ago until she was ran over by a train (the tire swing was hers.) If you stop in front of this spot at midnight and turn off your engine and headlights, weird things will happen. There have been reports of windows fogging up, cars not restarting, and the faint sound of a little girl laughing along with the sound of a train.

FRUITLAND - Pleasant Hill Cemetery - Paranormal photographs have been taken at this cemetery. A local who lives next to the cemetery (in his back yard) states that a friend of his comes to visit and obtains alot of photos of orbs.Directions and other pertinent information:Located north of Cape Girardeau, the town of Fruitland is on US 61 and Pleasant Hill Cemetery is 3/4 of a mile north east of town at the eastern end of CR 541.

FULTON - The Callaway Community Hospital - The girls in lab says there is a ghost that walks the hall by surgery. Also odd smells are associated with the presence of this ghost. Some say smells of sweat in areas were there are no people.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 10 South Hospital Drive

FULTON - Dark Hollow Road - Also called Devils Hollow Road. Glowing lights have been seen along this road, and other strange things are also reported along this stretch of road at night. The road ends up in ham's prairie where there is a small cemetery. Supposedly if you go drive out on the road at night and turn off your car lights then turn them back on a car will appear in front of you out of no were. No matter how you try to avoid a head-on, you can't. The ghost car then passes through your vehicle, leaving you and your passengers covered in blood. The back story to this is that some teenagers where supposedly killed on the road because they where drunk and driving with their headlights off playing around, and now they come back to teach others a lesson. People say that if you walk the road at night you will begin to hear a baby cry. At first you will see nothing, but finally you will see a woman come walking out of the woods holding a crying bundle. She will walk or glide toward you holding the baby out for you to take. Just as you are close enough to reach out for the baby she disappears. A local who lived there states the area was used for satanic rituals which was supposedly verified by the local police and some things they found in the woods close to the cabin. There have been verified orb photos obtained. Another reports that while out there the moon took on a orange color and when driving back out, all the lights on the vehicle went out even though switch turned on, when they got it turned back on, the realized they were no longer going the same direction leading out, but driving towards the cemetery again.Directions and other pertinent information:In downtown Fulton where US 54, also called Market Street, meets East 2nd Street, go east on 2nd Street for 0.2 miles to Mokane Road and turn right or south on Mokane Road and go down it for 1.3 miles to Tennyson Road. Turn left or east on Tennyson Road, drive 0.6 miles to the first street you can turn right or south on and this is the haunted road, its shows as County Road 409 on the map, it runs for 5 miles to the town of Hams Prairie.

FULTON - Fulton State Hospital - There are stories saying that the basement area is haunted and people hear strange noises and feel cold spots down there. There are tunnels that run from the basement to the court house and other areas under the town. It is said that the tunnel and buildings on top of the tunnel, including the court house, are haunted by the apparation of a female slave. An employee at the hospital states they have noticed something odd about the sidewalk that heads west towards the courthouse from the new admin building. In the winter time it takes a long time for ice & snow to freeze & accumulate on this walk as if there is an air space underneath. Another employee reports at the building of ASB strange things happen late at night around 10:00 pm such as you will get strange feelings of being watched, shadows, hear footsteps. The employee has heard someone walking around and the elevator go up to 5th floor than back on 2nd floor then sounds like someone walking, and in checking no one was there. In the area on 4th floor where supplies are located you experience cold spots and the feeling of someone watching you and the employee heard voices that is described as "like a radio that was left on". On 2nd floor you hear sounds like someone walking and no one is there. The employee states they caught a glimpse of a little old lady in the bathroom standing.The first patient was admitted in 1851 and back then the patients were treated by unusual methods for mental illness. Things that have been used at this hospital and that may indeed cause paranormal activity since include hydrotherapy (running cool water of patients wrist and ankles),sensory deprivation chairs (patients were strapped into a chair with a hood over their head), twirling chairs (would rapidly spin patients), needle cabinets (steel cabinets that the patients were locked in while water was pumped directly into their skin), and often straight jackets and shackles where used to restrain. The tunnel under the hospital was attached to the old ADM building that burned down, and it used to lead to the courthouse, but is blocked off and now only leads to the main kitchen. It is reported that the tunnel is very creepy.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 600 East 5th street. The cross street Hillcrest Street.

FULTON - Courthouse - The ladies in the prosecutors office have had problems with her moving things around. One employee states the first time she heard of the ghost was when she couldn't find some files. The women in the office told her not to worry that the files would show up it was just Celia taking things again. The story of Celia is that she was a slave who was raped by her master and got pregnant. She killed her master and was later hung outside of the court house in Fulton.Directions and other pertinent information:Assuming it is on East 5th street near the hospital. The cross street Hillcrest Street.

GARBER (Ghost Town) - Old Post Office- Harold Bell Wright, the author of the book (The Shepard of the Hills moved to Garber after his book grew too popular. There are many abandoned houses and buildings. The Post Office is by the railroad tracks is the haunted part. The Post office was trashed after its close. As you walk through it there are cold spots and strong winds, even on a windless day. You walk outside and you can hear hammering coming from the woods. The old town of Garber is located right by Legestone Country Club, and the Stonebridge neighborhood. Stonebridge is located outside of Branson West, Missouri down Shepard of the Hills Expressway.

GARDEN CITY - Old Railroad Tracks - Years ago a train has crashed killing many of the people who was on it. at times, you can hear it's whistle in the air and people screaming.

GARWOOD - Sanders Valley - The barn has since burnt down and been rebuilt but the apparition remains. During the Civil a family was murdered by the Union for being Confederates. The women and children were thrown in the old cistern, the slave was hung in the barn and the father was drug to death in the vally in front of the house. To this day, if the moon is full, you can see the slave swaying in the rafters. children are also heard laughing in the old house.

HANNIBAL - Mt. Olivet Cemetery - This is a very old cemetery, phantom apparitional mists have been photographed here, among the Civil War graves there is a mausoleum that is very active.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just south east of Hannibal, from where SR 79 also called Birch Street Scenic meets Ssr T also called Fulton Ave, take Fulton Ave south for 1.3 miles and turn left or east on (I have two names for this road the first is Bramblett Drive and the other is East Helm Street) and go down it for .4 miles. Mt Olivet Cemetery will be on your left.

HANNIBAL - Haunted Cemetery - None of the visitors to this graveyard have yet found its correct name. Deep gutteral growling has been heard emanating from the woods. Large clawed tracks have been found in the area. An enormous figure has also been observed skulking around the edge of the woods, which has been described by viewers as a hunched-over man. Blue orbs of light have also been photographed here along with red ectoplasmic mists.Directions and other pertinent information:Located northwest of Hannibal. Take US61 north of Hannibal and exit onto Rt. W. Take Rt. W west, there are several cemeteries out this way. The cemetery is located opposite the old abandoned Skelly Gas Station.

HANNIBAL - Haunted Plantation - This old run down plantation is thought to be haunted. The stories and history of this location are unknown.Directions and other pertinent information:Located outside of town southeast of Hannibal on MO-T, we do not have the address for this location.

HANNIBAL - Ilasco - Atlas Portland Cement Company's employee town known as Ilasco. The majority of the buildings housed immigrant workers and their families from eastern and southern Europe, Romanian, Slovak, Italian, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Polish, Croatian and other. To keep these hard working men happy, Ilasco at one time had 8 taverns. Add alcohol to often volatile tempers and overworked bodies and trouble soon followed. The Romanian Lodge held many Funerals. Most of the settlers where buried in the Mt. Olivette and Riverfront cemeteries. In March 2nd of 1906 a large fire which started in one of the Gen. Stores spread threw the settlement and burnt most of the buildings down. In 1909 the Pauley Jail Building Co. built a 2 room escape proof jail that could accommodate 8 people 'comfortably'. Nothing is really known about what kind of paranormal activity goes on there, it is just said to be haunted.Directions and other pertinent information:Located southeast of Hannibal on Country Road 453 where it meets SR 79. The entrance to this village is a small wooden/steel bridge, then just to your left is the two stores and then on past that to the left is the jail and to the right is the new Lutheran Church.

HANNIBAL - Screaming Johnnys - The old country church has a cemetary behind it that is still in use, but the church itself is just a hollow stone shell with a charred roof still intact. It was said that in the late 50's and early 60's cars would be lined up every weekend on the dirt road that ran in front of this ruin to hear the screams. Oral legends are many and widespread, but most say it was the cries from a ghost of a young boy who burned alive in the church. Some say that this was during a picnic in a pasture nearby and the boy had returned to the church knocking over a candle on his way to retrieve one article or another. A more onimous story says that this was a black church and was burned by the KKK who didn't want a black church in the Hannibal area... The stories go on. What is known, and was heard by hundreds, is that blood curtling screams could be heard in the area of the ruins in the dark hours of the night. It was concluded by some that the screams came from a cougar that had taken up residence or somehow become trapped in the nearby White Bear Caves, but that is only speculation.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on the Northwest side of Hannibal. t's about 2 miles outside of Hannibal, in the area of Hannibal Regional Hospital, White Bear Caves and Spartan International. HANNIBAL - White Bear Caves - It is reported that some people vanished in the caves in the early 70's. No specific information on how haunted. HANNIBAL - Devil's Tower - The tower itself is fairly unimpressive, though rumor states that it has a tunnel under it that leads to the White Bear Caves. It is reported that it is cursed, cursed ground. Reports of seeing dark figures with glowing eyes is somewhat common, cars not starting once turned off, cars breaking down. There have been many accidents and fights there with a few resulting in deaths. A local states it was bad enough that they posted no tresspassing signs all around and put up that orange fence. The local says, "It's just a bad place with bad energy where bad things happen, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone to go there". HANNIBAL - Hannibal Community Theatre - A theatre actor reports that many pictures have been taken during rehersals and performances and there are several cast pictures, scenery pictures and backstage pics with orbs in them. Go .8 miles on East Elm - the street will change its name to Cemetery Road. Orient Cemetery will be on the left or north side just past Silvermaple Street.

HARRISONVILLE - Austin Cemetery - Orbs have been seen in this cemetery.Directions and other pertinent information:Located from just south of Harrisonville on US 71 ( where US 71 crosses SB 7), travel south on US 71 for 10 miles and turn left or east on SSR B. (The town of Archie will be on your right). Drive 3.7 miles east on SSR B, then turn left or north on South Fields Road and go down this road for .5 miles. Turn left or west on E 343rd Street and drive .3 miles to where this road meets South Cameron Road.

HARTVILLE / MTN GROVE - Haunted Homes - From a local to the area, "There is a book written about Hartville Missouri about a family being haunted bye a poltergeist, that family is a cousin to my ex husband, but his mom tells me it is a true story. Their are also some haunted houses in Hartville Missouri and Mtn. Grove Missouri. I know about Mtn. Grove Missouri because I lived their for 22 yrs. Their is a big mansion right next door to a retirement home on Elm Street. The big house is suppose to be haunted, u might try these houses, also there is a big red brick house on East ist. Street I think its suppose to be haunted, no one ever lives in it."Directions and other pertinent information:Located on Elm St. and another on East First St. in Mnt. Grove.

HAWK POINT - Satan's Tunnel - There are many stories about this supposedly haunted *Satan's Tunnel* To get there from Warrenton You take hwy. 47 to the four way crossing (right goes to troy) forward goes nowhere and left goes to hawk point. Take this curvy road till there's a huge cornfield and a sign on the left saying *tunnel road*. Follow this road to the very end. Legend goes that the land that the road is on was owned by devil worshippers.... and long ago above the tunnel at the end of this road was a railroad track and a guy crossing the tracks got hit and was thrown to the bottom of the tunnel and was killed. His ghost is known to haunt the tunnel still. In the seventies some kids were checking out the tunnel and found an old bum taking shelter inside the tunnel and talked to him a bit and he told the story of the ghostly man in the tunnel and if you walk through the tunnel quietly you can hear the whistle of the train still. The next day police found the bum dead inside the tunnel his face frozen with fear and cause of death unknown. The caution tape is still seen where they never did take it down. Story goes there's a graveyard and a witches house in the woods. Ask anyone around these parts and they'll tell you the story.

HAZELWOOD - Starlite Café and Billiards - Now known as Action Cafe- Reports of feeling a prcense walk past you, seeing a shaowy figure, seeing red eyes moving through the place, cold spots felt, and an apparition of an older man have all been experienced

HIGGINSVILLE - Confederate Park - There is the confederate park is across the street it is a state park and has many graves of confederate and union soldiers and you may check it out because it is rumored to be haunted as well.

HIGGINSVILLE - Hwy Old 213 - 10 years ago a young women died in a car accident when she ran of the road into a light pole. It is across the street from a sign that tells you what highway you are on. The light while sitting under it will go off and as you move out from under it, It will turn on. The city has repaired the light pool many times changing the whole electrical but cant find a problem. Some say that if you stand or sit in your car under it for period of time it will turn on and you will see her figure on the side of the ride, she will then walk to your car window.

HOBERG - Spanish Fort Cemetery - Paranormal photos have been taken here and moving red lights seen inside this graveyard. One reporter states that while she and two other woman walked the back right corner of the cemetery, and at first what she thought were lightening bugs, but actually were not but what she now believes to be orbs, began flying at them and passing right through them. Another reports as follows, "Got a wonderful picture of a very thick mist or fog, and at the right hand side of the photo it looks like the Grim Reaper standing there looking at us. We all got several good Orbs, I got a picture of an Orb and something very shiny and moving very fast along the ground. It was not there when I took the picture because I always check the areas for anything that might show up strange or out of place. there was nothing on the ground that would make that shape." Another reports seeing a red light in the trees, the wind picking up the further in they got in the cemetery, hearing footsteps and other strange noises that seemed to increase in volume as they exited from the site. Another local states that he hunts the woods at the cemetery and at night you will hear voices and will see lights moving, that he has walked to the cemetery following the lights and voices thinking some one was in the cemetery messing around, and no one would be there. He further says, "On the monument they put up telling about the tribe that built the mound, you will see figures on the bottom of it in pictures that don't show up to the naked eye, they're kind of Indian looking signs or figures what ever you'd want to call them." I am not sure what exactly he means by this, if he is saying in photos they show up but not to the naked eye, or what, he was not specific enough to be sure.Directions and other pertinent information:From just southeast of the city of Mt. Vernon where I-44 meets SR39 also called SR265, exit south on to SR39 for .2 miles to the very first road you can turn right on. It's a local road, turn right on this road and take it west for .8 miles until the road splits. Turn left or south here and drive south for 3 miles. You will pass Honey Creek, but before you reach the railroad tracks, turn right or west and go down this road 1.4 miles. You will cross over the railroad tracks here and the cemetery will be down this road on your left.

HOLLISTER - Country Mart - A couple of years ago a girl was shot in the parking lot and ever since then there has been complaints by the pm workers of weird sounds and appearances of a girl walking the parking lot lat at night. - January 2007 Correction: it was a teenage boy that was shot by his friends in the parking lot. Not a young girl.

HOLLISTER - Gobbler's Knob - Warren Hardin is known as the ghost of Gobbler's Knob. People say they have seen the ghost wandering around the cemetery with a jug of whiskey in his hands and every once in a while he will take a drink and smile.

HOPEWELL - Hopewell Cemetery - Witnesses have heard a an inhuman howling in the woods next to the graveyard, a ghost lady, tall, w/ a long fancy gown and a big dress hat. There has been a glowing ball seen by numerous people that circles the steeple of the church at the graveyard and we have also heard the windows rattling by themselves.

HORNERSVILLE - The Old Hornersville Cemetery - Reports of 3 human ghosts and a dog ghost walking the cemetery.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just south of downtown. Take Mulberry Street south it will change its name to Bunch Street, continue south for another 1/4 mile.

HORNET - Joplin (Hornet) Spook light - This place has been haunted since Civil War times. A few different stories circulate. This stretch of dirt road in the country outside of town Has even been featured on Unsolved Mysteries. A mysterious light wanders the road. - September 2004 additional info: Spook Light is also known as Devil's Promenade. There are several stories about it, one was a miner with a lantern searching for his family. Some used to say it was swamp gas, but many have a strange feeling when witnessing it. January 2006 additional info: Though it is called Joplin Spook Light it is located in Hornet Missouri (between Joplin and Seneca Missouri, very near the Oklahoma border). Devil's Prominade vs Spooklight - Another problem is that it is stated the Devil's Promenade is another name for the Spook Light, when actually the Devil's Promenade no longer exists, however the actual location was just a bit down the road from the spooklight. The Devil's promenade was a wooden bridge crossing Spring River, one can easily still find the spot if they look for it, but the wooden bridge has been replaced by a modern bridge(made of metal and asphalt.) Though as far as I know there have been no sighting, or incidents (or suicides) since the new bridge was erected (the wooden one was torn down in the late 80's or early 90's.)
WARNINGAlso for any visitors to the site a couple of things to note are to avoid going on the weekends (it's a popular teenage drinking area on the weekends) drive at least a mile down the road, away from state line road. Also if you keep quiet, don't toss your trash out of the car, don't drink, and don't have any drugs on you the cops will pretty much leave you alone, aside from stopping by to make sure your not doing any of the above. Above all, DO NOT TRESPASS, don't jump fences for ANY reason, some of the people who live out there HATE the fans of the spooklight aside from the regulars who they know aren't going to cause any trouble. Best views are down this road between .5 to 1.5 miles. The light travels from west to east and is most often seen between 10pm and midnight; it's orange-red in color and between the size of a baseball and basketball. From Hwy 44, exit onto SR 43 and travel south on SR43 for 4.1 miles to CR6 (also called West Hymer Road). Turn right or west on West Hymer Road and drive 3.5 miles to the very end of this road, where it will dead end on to a north-south road called S700 or N4703. Turn left or south on S700 and drive for 1 mile to a road called E50. It will be on your right hand side (in the summer the sign can be harder to see because of the foliage); this is Spook Light Road.

HORTON - Oklahoma State Line - The spook light is seen by thousands of people a year and has been unexplained for over 100 years. Could be the same source as the "Joplin Spook Light."

INDEPENDANCE - courthouse exchange - Supposedly a girl ghost haunts this restaurant and on many occasions staff members have found coins on the floor and heard strange footsteps.

INDEPENDANCE - Franklin Cemetery - April 2005 correction: Formerly posted as being located in Liberty - Faint lights appear during certain phases of the moon. They float from NE side of grounds and follow a certain path to the western gate.

INDEPENDANCE - Hill Park - There is a private historic cemetery, where Frank James is buried, along with two confederate soldiers and others. The submitter claims to have seen on one occasion what appears to be a figure, more of a light, misty glow, walk over the hill. Their neighbors claim to have seen it before and the locals say it is a soldier who was killed in battle there in 1862(63?)

INDEPENDANCE - Old Jackson County Jail - Sounds, cold spots foot steps are observed here.

INDEPENDANCE - Vaille Mansion - Former insane asylum. Ghosts in the wooden room of faces. Upper part of mansion that is closed off to public is haunted by Mrs. Vaille who killed herself by overdosing on morphine after her husband Mr. Vaille went crazy and died. - January 2004 correction: Mrs. Vaille did not kill herself after her husband went crazy and died. She took fatal dose of morphine, as stated, but not because he went crazy. she did it because Mr. Vaille was in trouble for mail fraud, and was possibly facing a jail sentence, which is why she killed herself. He never went to jail, since he didn't do it, but she didn't know that. He lived five years after his wife's death and never remarried.

JACKSON - Jackson Senior High School - Rumor is that long ago a janitor died (some versions say he jumped out the window) in the girls bathroom on the 2nd floor of the Language/History building ( 'C' Building ). Now if you are alone in the bathroom , the old mans ghost will flush the toilet just to scare you. He closes the doors for the other janitors at night when they get done cleaning. Addition: A former student states, "It is said that "C" building (the auditorium) is haunted. Some stories as to why there is a haunting are: it used to be the grade school, one story claims that a young girl was in the 2nd floor girl's restroom and fell out the window. Today many girls won't use that restroom because there is such an uneasy feeling that you aren't alone, and occasionally you can hear someone else in there when you are by yourself. Another story is that an elementary teacher who loved his job was in an auto accident on the way to school, and died. People say that you can still hear him happily whistling if you are in the building after hours. The third story involves either a janitor or a construction worker (there is argument as to which one) who was building the auditorium. There is also debate as to what happened - either the man fell from the rafters while working on the auditorium or killed himself there. Incidences of the spirits have been the whistling as mentioned before, but I also had two classes in that teacher's room, and the door had a habit of opening itself and slamming shut, even on days when there was no breeze on the 2nd floor because all the windows were shut. Also, a teacher claimed that she was in after hours and suddenly began hearing all the toilets flush but knew she was alone in the building. Many people have claimed that every night at 10:30pm the bells go off in this building alone - this is untrue because I was there late once and it didn't occur. The auditorium isn't the only place of interest, I have a few pictures from the old gym, while it was dark due to a dance going on, where you can see several orbs floating. If any of this info. is handy in the future feel free to use it. Every student at JHS has heard the stories. I actually graduated from JHS in May. I do however know that one of the buildings ("Old A") was an academy during war time once. JACKSON - Jackson Cemetery - The monument to Colonel William L Jeffers a confederate civil war officer is at the entrance of the cemetery. At this haunted graveyard orbs and other paranormal photographs have been taken.Directions and other pertinent information:The city of Jackson is located north west of Cape Girardeau, the Cemetery is located down town at the southern end of South High Street where it meets East Monroe Street on the 400 block.

JEFFERSON CITY - Old 94 - A stretch of old highway on the outskirts of Jefferson City, Missouri, is notorious for being haunted. The road is lined by cornfields, and there is a light that follows you for approximately four-five miles. The ghost of a mischievous old man named Ofie is known to haunt the road. Several people have reported hitting a person on that road, to get out of their vehicles and search for someone to find nothing. If you turn around on the road, you'll be followed (this has happened to several people, too) by an unknown creature.

JEFFERSON CITY - Old 94 Bridge - The second bridge on Old 94 highway is hard to find, but does exist. Local rumor has it that during the Civil War, an entire family of white abolitionists were hung on the bridge, including their young twin son and daughter, who were no more than 7 or 8. Sounds of screaming can be heard, as well as children laughing, and wet footprints have been reported appearing in front of cars on the bridge.

JEFFERSON CITY - End of St. Mary’s Rd - The sound of a horse and buggy driving by, noise would repeat three to five times. you would hear the horse hooves with metal shoes hitting what sounded like stone and the wheels going around bumping and squeaking coming toward you going past and then down the road.

JEFFERSON CITY - Wainwright Bridge - If you park on Wainwright bridge at midnight and turn your car off, your car will (reportedly) slowly roll of the bridge. Also, odd noises can be heard below the bridge, as if someone is beating on it or scratching the steal support beams. There have been bloody footprints spotted leading out of the water into the mud, only to stop abruptly, as if the person leaving the footprints simply disappeared. A dozen missing persons have been reported as having been last seen near or on the bridge, and no less than three farmer's bodies have been found below it. A car drove off one side of the bridge, and landed a dozen or so yards on the other side.

JEFFERSON CITY - The Governor's Mansion - The ghost at this location is believed to be responsible for moving objects around the Mansion.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 100 Madison Street. JERICHO SPRINGS - The Jericho cemetery - Reports of strange glowing lights.

JEROME - Slaughter and Conical Sinks - Reported to be haunted, no details available at this time.Directions and other pertinent information:Near Jerome in Phelps County. They are located just off of I-44 at exit 169 three or so miles southwest of Jerome. From this exit, turn north and then turn right (east) along the outer road. Turn left on the road (numbered 269 on the map) leading to Onyx Mountain Caverns (Private Rd 8541 on the map). Pull over on the right when you reach the first wide spot in the road. You should notice a faint trail off to the right and a chain link fence off to the left. There may be a "no dumping" sign along with the chain link fence depending on the day. If you walk over to this fence, you will notice a steep dropoff and a bunch of junk. This is Conical Sink which has been a favorite dumping ground for the locals. If you follow the faint trail to the right, you will encounter the much larger Slaughter Sink. This sink is a true monster and sometimes ponds lots of water after heavy rains. It feeds into nearby Boiling Spring.

JOPLIN - Joplin High School - The Gym - A janitor that had died on the floor and now when you walk across the floor you can hear this sound in the distance that says don't walk on me.

JOPLIN - Joplin High School - The Band Room - Its is said that one night someone heard drums playing and when they walked into the band room there was no one there. People have also claimed to see strange glowing lights, and there's even one report about a janitor who saw a young boy in the band room....but then disappeared.

JOPLIN - Main St. (private residence) - An ex-tenant reports faucets turning on by themselves in the bathroom when she was alone in the house, only to turn back on when she would shut them off. Hearing her record player playing.

JOPLIN - Old Freeman Hospital Bldg. - Feelings of dread, and not being alone and watched. None of the maintenance crew wanted to go to that floor by themselves.

JOPLIN - Peace Church Cemetery - April 2008 Has been removed. No Trespassing. Trespassers will be prosecuted.

JOPLIN - Taylor Auditorium - The ghost of a woman who has been called The Dark Lady has been seen here; she is reported to move objects and cold spots are felt when she is present.Directions and other pertinent information:3950 East Newman Road. From where I-44 (also called East 7th Street) meets US 71 (also called North Rangeline Road), take US 71 north for 1 mile and turn right or east on Newman Road and go down it for about 1 mile. The cross streets are Goetz Blvd and Sarcoxie Trail.

JOPLIN - Galena City Cemetery - Visitors report an area in the center of the cemetery, where all the condemned graves are located, to be very cold even in summer. It is also claimed that a witch is buried near the wooded area and pond off the side of the newer cemetery that is located further up 7th street, pass the old cemetery.Directions and other pertinent information:7 miles west of Joplin on West 7th street just past Black jack Road. This cemetery is on the Kansas side of the state line border.

JOPLIN - Joplin Spook Light (Hornet Spook Light) - Best views are down this road between .5 to 1.5 miles. The light travels from west to east and is most often seen between 10pm and midnight; it's orange-red in color and between the size of a baseball and basketball. One visitor reports that he had a close encounter with the light, it appearing only 30 to 40 feet away from them and that in deciding to leave they experienced a strange sound that seemed to be coming from all directions. It had a sound that reminded him of about 30 or 40 dogs and humans screaming in terror. Another claims the light pierced his car window and left a burn mark on his back seat. The light was first documented being seen in 1866 and claims that there have been many studies done on Joplin spook light, including one that was done by the Army Corp of Engineers back in the 40's. The light is not always present and seems to shy away when there are crowds of people looking for it, and some believe it has some form of intellect.Directions and other pertinent information:Located southwest of Joplin. KANSAS CITY - Alexander Major's Home - This home is haunted by the ghost of Louisa Johnston, who spent her life restoring the mansion.Directions and other pertinent information:8201 State Line Road. The cross streets are West 83rd Street and West 81st Sreet.

KANSAS CITY - Hotel Savoy - Room 505 is haunted by the ghost of a woman who has been known to turn the water in the shower on, and the 7th floor is haunted by a ghost who likes to slam doors and turn on the steam vent heating system, which has been capped off and not used in years. Also the basement is haunted, some employees refuse to go down there.Directions and other pertinent information:200 block of West 9th Street. Outside on the road a policeman while in his car was hit from behind by a phantom car, it pushed his car forward with the sound of crunching metal and breaking glass heard. When he got out of his car to see who had hit him, the other car had vanished and his own car was undamaged, but had left skid marks from where it had been pushed. KANSAS CITY - The Humphrey's Access Conservation Area - Platte River Access - Strange This had an old bridge on it up until about 6 years ago when the state tore it down. The frame of it is still standing, however the part that you could drive on is completely gone. The bridge was too old to support traffic anymore. There is still to this day an old car that is partially buried in the riverbank that you can easily see that fell through it a long time ago. There have been reports of unusual noises, including muffled screams, footsteps in the leaves in the fall, gunshots, and voices talking from various locations on the riverbank. Platte County doesn't really have a major significance in the Civil War, however there is a history of skirmishes.

KANSAS CITY - Hyatt Regency - Ghosts of a woman dressed in her "tea gown' can be seen in the main lobby of the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Kansas City, MO. This unknown lady was killed in the July 17, 1981 skywalk collapse that killed 114 people and injured 200. It is unknown who the woman is, but it said to be of Kathryn Sullivan - who's son has been an advocate for creation of a monument to all those effected by the tragedy.

KANSAS CITY - Kansas City arena / Kemper Arena - There is said to be sightings, sounds, and lights flickering on and off in the arena late at night from a former WWF wrestler named Owen Hart who died 3 years ago by falling 50 feet to his death from the ceiling of the arena . There are also sightings of him still in his Owen Hart suit at the top of the arena looking down with the cable hooked up to him.

KANSAS CITY - Kaw River - On a rainy night there is a headless woman that walks the river bank. It is said she was in a covered wagon that turned over and rolled down the hill and she was decapitated.

The location is off of K highway past the Tiffany Springs playing fields. Turn left for about 1/4 of a mile and it will be on your right.- December 2005 Update/Additional Information: There used to be a house next to it, as to this day the stone/brick fireplace is still standing, although the rest of the house is completely gone. Information about this place is tied up with the airport purchasing the land so info was hard to come by. Since the property is now owned entirely by the airport, caution should be used. It is very possible you will be arrested if you are there with out permission. Since 9/11, airport security is out there usually within ten minutes of any cars parked stationary either on K HWY or on the road that leads to the cemetery. They are very serious. It's not barricaded and the land that surrounds the cemetery is farmland, usually only for corn/soybeans.

It is haunted by the spirits of the man and woman who lived there when it was first built. the woman has been seen on a couple occasions. once walking down the isle of the church witnessed by two nuns at the alter, and another time appeared outside a window of the museum and asked the person inside where the priests house is. I only know of one time the man has been seen. there was a person staying at the museum and was on the third floor just casually looking around, she had opened a closet in the room and in the back of the closet on the floor was a man sitting there waving his hands in front of his face(as if saying nooooo). The woman screamed and ran downstairs and the whole way down was being tapped on the shoulder by the man. she later identified the man in one of the old pictures as the man who she had saw in the closet.

KANSAS CITY - University of Missouri at Kansas City - Epperson Hall - This house, now the architecture school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, has been haunted by a young woman for many years. The house was formerly owned by a local businessman and his daughter-in-law killed herself in the attic when she was banned from dating a man who worked on the docks. Police and students experience cold spots, apparitions, and lights coming off and on, among other things. The house has been on Unsolved Mysteries and is on the National Register of Haunted Houses.

She died on that ride because she unbuckled her seat belt to sit by her friend then she fell off. KEARNEY - Claybrook Plantation - This is an old plantation that recently burnt down. Witnesses have seen a door open and then slam shut and heard strange noises (someone screaming). - April 2004 Update: they have since torn the whole house down.

KENNETT / ARBYRD / HORNERSVILLE / SENATH - The Arbyrd or Senath Spooklight - Located down in the Missouri boot heel. Near these two towns is a ghost light.The legend here says that you are supposed to flash your car headlights 3 times to call the light. The other location noted for this light, and where most of the reports of people seeing it are located along an old rail road bed. People park along the bend in the road where the old railroad grades meet, the light travels down along this old railroad grade from the north, stops and returns the way it came. The railroad grade is located just SE of Hornersville Junction, along the unnamed road where the two RR beds meet. Also read haunts for Farrenburg because the towns of Kennett, Arbyrd, Hornersville, and Senath are so close to each other they have all been listed under both of these two cities.Directions and other pertinent information:From the town of Senath where Dunklin County Road C meets US 412 (also called SR25), go south on Dunklin County Road C (also called 643) for 3.3 miles. It was discovered when merican Railroad Industry was clearing the land to add a building and a backhoe ran over a tombstone, they cleared it out a little more and they found the little cemetery.Directions and other pertinent information:In Kennett on Industrial Road, down the street from Masterson Elementary take a right and keep going down the road until you get to ARI, American Railroad Industry, and go right at the dead-end and keep going and you will get to a tree line and fence row, if you look very carefully, you will see several very old tombstones.

KENNETT / ARBYRD / HORNERSVILLE / SENATH - Lover's Lane - In Kennett. Reported to be a really spooky place because about 10 or so years back there was a murder, which really happened around the flood-ways and then the body was moved to "Lover's Lane". The killers beat a man to death and then put his in a 2 foot deep grave, pushing him in the grave until he bent literally in half. They say if you go down the road you will see a bloody man walking across the road asking for help.Directions and other pertinent information:On the old highway 25, go down the road and you will see a dirt road, turn on it and that will lead you to the "Lover's Lane" of Kennett.

KENNETT / ARBYRD / HORNERSVILLE / SENATH - McGrew Cemetery - Visitors to this cemetery have heard moaning voices inside the graveyard. An account from a local whose father is buried in the cemetery. "I lost my father in November 9Th of 2004. He is buried there in McGrew cemetery. Every time I go there to visit his grave I hear a moaning noise. I know it's not the wind, and I know I'm not hearing things because the four other people I was with heard the exact same thing. Whenever I hear the moaning noise I go to my car and find that my doors are locked! I don't lock my doors, in fact I leave the door open so that I don't get so hot in there. The first time this happened to me I did not think anything of it. That is, until my step-mom went out there a week ago and had the same exact thing happen to her while she was there. We are thinking it's my father doing all this. He was killed in a car accident and made the same moaning noise as he died. He locks our doors so that we don't get in the car. It's as if he's telling us he doesn't want us to die like he did so he locks our doors. This is a separate incident but I went out to his grave late one night like around 12:30 am and saw a what looked like a man leaning over his grave. I drove up closer to the grave and the man looked over and literally disappeared out of nowhere. I don't go anymore because of the strange events. KIRKSVILLE - Kirksville Cemetery - The submitter of this places claims to have a picture of a friend posing next to a headstone that is shaped like a chair, similar to the one you mention from IA. They do not remember what cemetery it is in, but they do know that it was in the Kirksville area. This chair also had rumors about people who had died after sitting in it. - October 2007 Update – The Chair that was mentioned is called The Devil’s Chair Located on Jamison St. in Kirksville.

KIRKSVILLE - Truman State University - Campbell Apartments - The ghost of an elderly lady has been seen in these apartments.

KIRKSVILLE - Truman State University - Library - Back when Truman University was Northeast Missouri State, there was supposedly a ghost in what was once Laughlin Hall. Residents remember hearing sounds when there was no one else in the building. Laughlin Hall was torn down in 1986 and it's bricks were used in the building of the new library in 1988. We have not heard if any hauntings have been reported.

KIRKWOOD - Manor Grove Nursing Home - Residents suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's sometimes complain to staff about a little boy playing in their room at night, disturbing their sleep. It's rumored this is the spirit of a little boy who was killed in the 1950's or 60's on the nearby railroad tracks. These sightings occur in clusters. Nothing will be mentioned for quite awhile; then several residents in their beds, upstairs and down, will mention seeing him on the same night. These people are NOT alert and oriented, and most assuredly not capable of coordinating among themselves a hoax or trick upon the staff. While working midnight shift on second floor A nurse reports seeing from the hallway, a 'dark shadow' leaning over a residents' bed, smoothing the bedcovers. Assuming it was an aide giving care, they flipped on the light, and it was gone.

KNOB NOSTER - The traveler of Knob (Ghost Light) - During a stormy night, on the Knob there can be seen a ghostly light that seems to travel up and down the bluff. It spawns from and old legend of a hermit that lived on the Knob, who was struck by lightning carrying a lantern. Its said that he still roams the hill. LAMAR - Bluff cemetery - Nine miles out of town is this cemetery it is known to have many ghost haunting it.

LAMINE - Ravenswood Mansion - Floating lights have been seen and music heard outside on the grounds, and a large music box in the upstairs hall is said to turn itself on late at night. Also loud crashing sounds have been heard that can last over 15 minutes. This dead ends onto State Hwy W.Turn left onto State Hwy W and drive down it 2 miles, then turn right on Cattail Road and go down 1/4 mile. The cemetery will be on your right, just before you reach the railroad tracks.

LEBANON - The Foundation of Death - Reports of vehicles failing, yellow orb floating in the field behind the foundation that followed along side the vehicle at 30-60 mph., when you go there you are supposed to see a fog role up over the field towards you. Also known as "The witches foundation.", in that the graves are supposed to be those of witches.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just northeast of town on Peach Drive. While going down Peach Drive from Lebanon you will see an old foundation of a house on the right hand side of the road, look for an open field behind the foundation with a deep ditch in front of the foundation. LEBANON - Haunted Train Tunnel - Supposedly there was a man hit by a train while walking down the tracks and he can be seen wondering around. Also supposed to have been a lynching resulting in the hanging of an unconvicted felon many years ago. Some say the man was innocent and can be seen running around the woods attempting to get away. Others have reported seeing an apparition hanging from the bridge. A resident living by the tunnel and the foundation states that activity only occurs when the locations are disturbed, and believes the spirits just desire to be left alone. He tells that it is tradition of the teens that if one of them dies, their name is spray painted on the tunnel in rememberance. He states that even in your car sitting in the tunnel you can hear whispers and feel a presence.Directions and other pertinent information:Located north-east of town near where Peach Drive meets Grandview Road.

LEBANON - Wilson Cemetery - When you go out there late at night you will here voices and sometimes even see white figures floating around some of the graves. The Cemetery is over 200 years old and most of the people who are buries there are named Wilson. I advise you not to go into the cemetery, very bad luck, trust me. The Cemetery is located 25 miles east of Lebanon on back country roads.

LEEPER - Leeper Mansion (was known as) - Has a very morbid history. Capt. Leeper who was a Carpet Bagger in the Civil War times used to beat, shoot, and hang the African Americans or just people he didn't like who came in on the new railroad that was being built. When he was on his deathbed he was tied down because he kept yelling that demons were trying to get him. He was buried in his back yard in the family cemetery. At nights he has been seen walking up Leeper Hollar and there have been several reports of lights coming on and off doors being shut, and strange noises coming from his old bedroom. From a local, "I live 8 miles down the road from either of these two houses. The one wrapped in housewrap is a real odd one! The lights come on every night, in no particular order. If a light bulb burns out, as a porch light did a few weeks ago, it gets replaced in a few days. I wonder who pay the electric bill? Who replaces the light bulbs? I have never seen a person around this house, and I have driven past it for over 10 years. I have seen & know of the other house, but have never seen anything "unusual" about it, other than just a creepy, old, dilapidated farmhouse."

LEES SUMMIT - Haunted railroad tracks - A local reports experiencing at about 10:30 blue lights started to appear on the tracks, when we'd move, they'd move. The lights followed us under the bridge and even when we got in the car they would stay in the woods right next to it. One of them picked up a glass bottle and threw it at the railroad ties, a low hiss started, sounding like a snake but got louder and lower pitched like something angry. He states no snakes slithered away and nothing happened except a cold chill going up their spine. He states they had a nightvision camcorder and were just filming each other goofing around, but when they got home and put the video in, and as soon as it started another form moved very, very quickly across the bottom right hand corner of the screen, we all freaked out. He states, "The figure was roughly a foot and a half shorter than the eight foot sign it crossed. None of us in the party are over 6 feet tall, if any of us are even 6 feet. We showed others and no one was buying it so we gave up, until I got my pictures back. On the negative of the picture I took of my three friends, down in the bottom right hand corner there is a figure there, slouched over and it's torso fades off towards the bottom. I was standing right next to a ghost and didn't even know it! The ghost didn't seem mean unless that was it hissing at us for disturbing him. He didn't bother us much except for the lights following us. LEMONS - County Farm - It is a three story building that looks like something straight out of a horror movie. It is positioned in a hay field on a rock road just past the local cemetery, and you'll have to be very careful not to be caught trespassing by the owner who lives directly across the road. Once you find your way in, after fighting the thorn bushes at the basement window entrance, you are overcome by a sense of unwelcome and constant following throughout the asylum. Adventurers have taken digital pics and digital videos claiming to have come up with some pretty strange footage. If you decide to go, be careful of the floors and please be respectful. ENJOY DON'T DESTROY!

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - There are massive amounts of stories of hauntings there. the Bell Tower, that was said to be haunted was closed down due to reconstruction, so it was closed at the time the submitter was there. There have been reports of a little boy who would come out late at night and salute the helicopter on the grounds then disappear. LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - The Barracks - The barracks on the far edge of the campus are also said to be haunted. loud footsteps have been heard coming down the hall in the staff hall of the cafeteria building, and open and shut the bathroom door.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - The Bell Tower - Is haunted. An apparition with a pale face pacing the bell tower has been reported. No lights where on in the bell tower.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Groendyke Hall - The basement of Groendyke Hall is off-limits, and many of the rooms down there are boarded up. - April 2007 Additional information - the basement had a cadet dressed in spats, and was said to walk up and down the old JROTC hall without making noises. I was at the top of the building one night when 3 cadets came bolting up the stairs pale, and scared. They all spoke at once, and told me that they saw a “old style” cadet walking toward them, and they could see right through him.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Hickman Hall - Residents have seen apparitions at night in Hickman Hall, gray and seemingly floating through doors. One door slammed shut and it was only after they noticed that the door was PADLOCKED that they realized the door could not have possibly slammed because it couldn't open. - April 2007 Update: A visitor to our site reports in 95 or 96 One year every room door in Hickman hall slammed open in the whole barracks. It was in the middle of the night, and no one could explain how all the doors did that all at once. The company that lived in there at the time was Golf Company. It was made up of all the RAT (recruits at training) cadet. New kids who knew nothing of the school. The only ones that had been there for a while were the cadre officers put there to train the new kids. a dark shadow in the stairwell and it stopped turned and looked at him and all he saw was red eyes on a shadow. It took forever to calm him down.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Marine Hall - The showers come on by themselves and hear footsteps coming down the hall but nobody was there. Marine Hall is said to be haunted, but it was also off-limits to the cadets. A little boy is said to come out at night sometimes and salute the helicopter then disappear. - April 2007 Update: it has been demolished

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Practice parade field - Said to have a single figure of a solider who would appear in the middle of the parade field, and then turn and walk into the woods behind the field house and disappear.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Sanford Sellers hallThere were stories of the “Ghost TAC” a former TAC officer who would enter rooms, when cadets were sleeping to check in on them, and would also roam the 2nd floor halls to make sure all was well. He only wore a trench coat, and officers hat. No face or legs were seen.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Scholastic BuildingThe dark room in the downstairs of the Scholastic Building is boarded up to this day because of a student who committed suicide by hanging himself there back when hazing was perfectly legal. - April 2007 Additional information - it is said that lights in the top right floor near the lab would come on all by themselves even after rounds have been made, and the building was secure, and locked. When it was investigated, there was nothing there, and the lights would be off. Also footsteps would be heard in the night when rounds were being made to make sure the building was secure. If you were on the bottom floor, you could hear footsteps on the second floor. The library there was home to a civil war officer who would protect it.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Soccer field behind East barracksThere have always been reports of a band company seen there in the middle of the night, and if you saw it, you could hear cadence being played softly. The band would be in there barracks asleep every time this happened. And the instruments were all locked up the band room.

LEXINGTON - Wentworth Military Academy - Marine Hall - Ghosts inhabit one of the barracks for the cadets. A student accidentally committed suicide by hanging himself. Ever since reports of strange noises, showers turning on by themselves and strange apparitions have appeared.

LEXINGTON - Anderson House - This historic home was fought over and captured by both the Union and Confederate armies. It's said that people report feeling uneasy and objects have been said to move inside.Directions and other pertinent information:From where I-70 (also called US 40) meets SR13, take SR13 north for 18 miles, where its name changes in town to North 13th Street. Go down another .4 mile to the parking lot for the Civil War battlefield.

LIBERTY - Odd Fellows Insane Asylum - This is an old insane asylum, hospital, and old folks home operating since the early 1900's. Witnesses have seen bloody handprints on bathtubs and bathroom walls, and heard old bed's squeaking. They have also claimed to have a video tape with evidence of a ghost running in front of the camera.

LIBERTY - The old Mill - The old mill that is off of 291 hwy in Liberty Missouri is haunted. Reports of hearing footsteps, tools missing, strange noises, in pictures...there have been unexplained splotches on them, most paranormal investigators call them "orbs" these "orbs" have also reportedly be seen, at times, floating down from the elevator shaft when watched through a live camera lens.

LUPUS - Haunted Cemetery - Reported to be haunted. The name of this cemetery is either Holzclaw or Pettigrew cemetery. No listing of any cemetery named Holzclaw (the name provided by reporter) located near Lupus MO. So one of three possible things have happened, its just not listed, or the correct name is Pettigrew Cemetery or the name of this graveyard has changed. Reporter say, "its in the middle of the woods and is fairly large. I think it is the one that is northwest of lupus. If memory serves right I think the name might be Holtzclaw? I'm really not sure though, unfortunately it has been a little while since I was out there. The graves there range from rather old to pretty recent and the back right corner of the cemetery is really freaky. There is a small area that looks like it may have once been fenced off but isn't anymore and it looks like there are graves there but they are unmarked stones.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just north of E. MALDEN - An unknown person's tombstone mysteriously glows at night for no reason. Several have claimed it is a long lost soldier.

MANCHESTER - John F Kennedy Catholic High School - Reports of cold spots, noises, doors locking, & lockers open and shut.

MARCELINE - RT 36 - Just east of Marceline there is a railroad bridge that crosses highway 36. Witnesses have often seen a misty white figure hovering above the road there. Sometimes under the bridge, sometimes just before the bridge. It sometimes vanishes before arriving at the bridge but most times they have driven right through it, and it appeared most every night they drove by.

MARCELINE - Mom's Restaurant - Over the years, customers and employees have felt strange drafts of cold air, plates have "jumped" from shelves, and furniture and other objects have been found tipped over or placed upside down. There have been occasional reports of an apparition of a young woman, and the ghost is known to the townspeople as "The Lady in White."Directions and other pertinent information:116 South Kansas Ave. From just east of the city of Columbia where I-70 also called US 40 meets US 63, take US 63 north for 36 miles just past the town of Moberly, turn left or west on US 24 also called West Hwy 24. MACON - Macon high school - A woman was murdered by a janitor back in the 80's and ever since than there have been sightings of her roaming the hallways late at night saying. You have the wrong man. The janitor who confessed may be innocent.

MACON - National Guard Armory - The armory used to be an Insane Asylum, and soldiers who have had to stay there say they here foot steps down the halls, here doors slamming and often times here faint moans and cries.

MARYVILLE - Northwest Missouri State University - Roberta Hall - Haunted by the same ghost, Roberta Steel for nearly 40 years. South Third of Hudson hall was closed for years because of strange occurrences. While closed, there were strange noises, like golf balls being rolled down the hall, and strange green lights coming from the bathroom. Since it has been reopened, there have been occurrences of things such as hairbrushes flying across the dorm rooms. Other reports from college students saying lights come on and locked doors become unlocked after lights out.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 920 East Halsey Street, with the cross streets of South Davis Street and South Hester Street.

MARYVILLE - Workman's Chapel - There is a presence felt at this church. It has been engulfed in flames before and no damage has occurred. There is a story about someone seeing some old cars around there like a funeral was going on and the roof of the vehicle that this person was in started to crush in until they left. A voice told someone where a knife was located under a part of the floor that was used by the priest to kill someone. A tree right by the chapel was used to hang people. You can sometimes see figures hanging from the trees. Also when you look just right you can see a figure hanging inside the church itself. Also rumors of a man that walks a horse. Supposedly if you leave your car underneath the tree that people were hung from you can hear feet as if trying to stand on your car to stop them from dying. Hoofs and many strange sounds come from the woods and sometimes noises from he chapel while in the cemetery are heard.

MEXICO - Haunted Trestle - It is said that the Klu Klux Klan had hung people from the trestle. People claim it just feels very eery at the trestle.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on the southwest side of town, take 54 (first exit off 54 coming from Kingdom City) into Mexico turn left just past G&D Steak House You'll come to a T (Fairground Rd.) turn left, the black top turns to gravel pretty quick stay on gravel, the trestle is about a mile down, can't miss it. Warning, go slow road is really wash boardy.

MILAN - Milan C-2 School - In about the fall of 1969 or the spring of 1970, a group of students and the school's basketball coach who were arriving at the schoolhouse gym for a practice of the school play, entered the gym, turned on the lights, and witnessed a figure of a woman dressed in black lying on the couch that was part of the scenery on the stage for the play. After a few seconds, the woman got up from the couch and disappeared into thin air! It is said that the coach was so upset by the event that he fainted. All of the students and the coach verified seeing this event, which may be related to stories of a "Woman in Black" that tell of her being a school teacher from Milan many years ago that was killed and is now seen around the town, especially the area of the school, from time to time. Also, there are historical records that show that the County Courthouse is built on top of an ancient Indian burial mound, and that during the excavation for the courthouse basementseveral skeletons were unearthed, one of which was reported to have been approx. 7-8 feet tall and was buried in a seated position facing due north.

MILLERSBURG - Little Dixie Lake - On the north side where the parking lot is all gravel there are two trails that eventually merge at a thick tree line. There are then two continuing trails running parallel to one another. Following the lakeside trail will eventually take you to a huge tree just past a green pond on the side of the trail choked with algae and little frogs. The tree is at least two hundred years old, they left it intact when they dug the lake and marked the trails back in the day. A residence’s dog goes crazy around the tree, when trying to contain the dog, their flashlight died. They have heard groaning noises late at night and weird clanking, visions a man hanging from a thick, long length of rope swung over the limb. Description is a male, in dark slacks, a white sort of tattered, dirty shirt and barefooted. Upon leaving the area of the tree, the flashlight came back on.

MONTGOMERY - Minneola rock - A rock on I-70 was the slaves were traded and believed to be haunted by their ghosts.

MONTICELLO - Lewis County Sheriff's Office - On the second floor a prisoner hanged himself in the shower, cold spots are felt and objects are reported to move at this location.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 107 South Washington Street. 573-767-5311

MORLEY - Carpenter's Cemetery - Orbs have been photographed in this graveyard.Directions and other pertinent information:From where I-55 and US 61 meet just west of Scott City, take US 61 (also called N Main St.) south for 19 miles, you will go past the exits for Morley, Haywood City, Vanduser, then past exit 452, look for a road on your right (west), its before you reach 450 at McMullin. Turn right or west on this unnamed road. Travel down it for .6 miles, the cemetery will be just before you reach the railroad tracks. If you were to continue further down this unnamed road it turns south & meets Field Road

MOUNTAIN GROVE - Haunted Mansion - A reporter states, "I know about Mtn. Grove Missouri because I lived their for 22 yrs. Their is a big mansion right next door to a retirement home on Elm Street. The big house is suppose to be haunted, you might try these houses, also there is a big red brick house on East Street, I think its suppose to be haunted, no one ever lives in it."Directions and other pertinent information:Located on Elm St. and another on East (First?) MOUNT VERNON - Spanish Fort Cemetery - Has had a lot of activity. Glowing red lights have been seen floating in the cemetery.

MOUNTAIN VIEW - At nights on County road 3080 west of mountain view you can hear the old train of the mountain view rail road go down the tracks, even though the tracks are long gone. This was part of the Burlington Northern rail road network, now only the grade remains.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just southwest of Mountain View running parallel with CR 3080 starting at West James Street and ending at the the town of Trask.

NEOSHO - Owl Rd - Small Cemetery on Owl Rd at night you many wondering ghost and if listen closely in far you here the baby cry. The baby grave was or still is marked baby girl. But be careful what lurk at the ground keeper's shack.

NEOSHO - Crowder College - Located on what was once Camp Crowder (briefly also Fort Crowder), a signal corps training Army post in the World War II years, the campus and surrounding area is haunted by ghosts of soldiers who served here. NEOSHO - Morse Park - Reports that there is something lurking in the trees just up the steep hill in the back. There are some old ruins up on the hill like maybe there used to be houses up there. It only shows itself at night. An apparation of a woman has been witnessed at the site, she is reported to be very white with a decayed face, has long white hair and is wearing a long white flowing dress. They say she appears normal until she gets close to you. Another reporter states that they shot a photo of the Vietname Veterans Memorial Helicoper (actually used in the war) that is mounted on a pole about 30 feet up in the air and the entrance to the park, and upon developing the photos, there was clearly a man with black hair and aviator glasses on in the cockpit peering out the window and down upon them. This reporter also obtained evps of a womans voice. The park was once the Morse family farm and later a recreational site, privately owned by the Morse's until the land was later donated to the city.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 20 miles in Neosho south of Joplin.

NEVADA - 1st Baptist Church on Walnut Street - It is considered one of the oldest structures in Nevada and it is in very poor condition. But, a few years ago it was used as the "Red Brick Playhouse" for community plays. It seems to be haunted by a former Janitor who wasn’t happy to share the place with the actors. While using the bathroom lights would flicker and shut off and sinks would turn on and you'd be sitting there all by yourself! It was not unusual during a play to have a door on the set swing wide open and everyone would hear feet tromping across the stage and back again and then the door would slam shut!

NEVADA - Blanche Skiff Ross Memorial Library - They say that the Cottey Library sits on top of an old civil war field hospital and then in the 1880's a home was built for the Cottey Family. Either way there is loads of activity in this library with books falling and carts rolling and music coming from the back stairs. Various people have reported seeing an old man in a smoking jacket and cap in the balcony. They have also reported 2 little girls in Victorian dress playing on the stairs and a mysterious younger woman in a long white gown reading a book.

NEVADA - Deepwood Cemetery - At this cemetery, the ghost of a woman is said to appear beside her gravestone, which is located near the railroad tracks where she is reported to have been photographed. Others have reported taking photos of orbs, apparitions, and luminous energy.Directions and other pertinent information:Located in the southeastern outskirts of town by the railroad tracks between East Pitcher Street and South Washington Street.

NEVADA - Cottey College - Is haunted by 2 ghosts: (1) Vera: a student from long ago that was making candy in Rosemary Hall when her nightgown caught fire, and resulted in burning down the hall. Now she haunts the entire college, comforting some girls and tricking others, being both helpful and playing tricks. NEVADA - Old Jail - It is said that there are at least 2 ghosts haunting the old Jail. One is of the sheriff's young bride often seen wearing a white dress and holding a lit candle near the 2nd story window facing Main Street. The other is of a black man who was lynched on the side lawn facing onto Walnut Street. You can hear weeping even outside the building and often you can hear the wood from the gallows creaking. There are often weird and unusual lights moving around inside the building.

NEVADA - Unmarked Grave - Legend says that a woman was thrown off the train and drug on the railroad tracks. Somebody found the body and buried her there. The area is mowed down today and there is flowers on the grave. Orbs have been spotted.

NEWBURG - Satan’s Holler - More commonly referred to as "Bakers Slough", are the woods just down Highway T N/East of Newburg and is reported to be haunted. The activity seems centered around the old Bakers Place which is up a small hill. There is an unexplainable draft of extremely cold air which blows down the lane which goes up to the house. A resident on the road says, "The road and woods itself seem to also be haunted. Friends feel uneasy and fearful when getting out of their cars at night. When we let the dogs out some nights, we feel a very eerie and almost malevolent presence. NEW HAVEN - Boondocker Inn - Object levitate, lights flicker, strange noises eerie feelings and cold spots reported.

NEW HAVEN - Enocks knob road - A very creepy old bridge sits near the end of this road. The lake below is haunted by the spirit of the little boy who fell off the bridge a long time ago. It is said that late at night if you go on the bridge and look down you can see something swimming in the murky waters, some say he appears as a serpent. There have also been many stories of a man committing suicide by diving off the bridge. A lot of people who drive down this road will hear dogs barking while nearing the bridge...only there are no dogs in the area! An old man lives not far from the bridge but and he claims he does not own any dogs. Legend also has it that on Friday the 13th you can see an apparition of a gnome with glowing red eyes climbing up an old dead tree near the bridge. A very spooky place indeed.

NEW MADRID - The Hunter Dawson Home - Several strange stories of hauntings going on at this house by those who are on staff there as well as residents living around the house. Built in 1859 by William Dawson and Amanda Hunter, successful a dry goods store owners. William died before the house was completed. His wife and her seven children moved into the mansion in 1860. The city of New Madrid purchased mansion in 1966 and donated it to the state.Today guided tours are now given of the mansion. The ghosts of the former owners are said to still roam the house, they have been seen looking out the windows of the mansion. A tunnel is also said to lead from the mansion to an old cemetary just outside town and exit near a moseleum. Voices have also been heard in this cemetery. One visitor states obtaining a photo that showed the shape of what appears to be a black slave woman's head in the reflection of a the oil paintings which hangs over the mantel. The painting is of one of the former owners and is not covered with glass. A member of a Sunday School class that visited the mansion during Christmas just to look at the beautiful old fashioned decorations states, "When we were walking through the house, I kept feeling like someone was walking beside me that was not there. Upon reaching one of the bedrooms, I suddenly began to feel very very ill, and I had to sit down in the floor to keep from passing out. When I closed my eyes, I saw the vision of what I believe was one of the children of the house, and when I told the tour director that I needed to get air because I felt sick, her eyes got wide and she said that one of the children had died in the house of influenza. This same reporter states on a second tour trip of the mansion, she experienced "While we were in the house, I kept hearing people talking in the rooms that I knew no one was in, and when we got outside, I saw someone standing in a window on the second story, looking out at our group with a mad expression on her face as we walked toward the old cemetery. A tour guide reports she was doing a night time tour at Christmas time in which she was with her group at the top of the stairs and she was waiting behind the group to go down the stairs when she felt "someone" step on the end of her dress. Thinking that someone from her group was still up there, she turned around to say excuse me and there was no one there and when she looked into one of the bedrooms there was a rocking chair rocking back and forth. There is also another instance where there was an employee working in a office that used to be towards the very back of the house really late at night, getting paperwork done, and they heard the old piano keys being struck. Another employee states, "The house is really creepy especially when your in it alone. They have 2 pictures of the ghost in the house, I have seen both of them. One is of a man and the other is of Amanda previous owner. There are tunnels that lead to a mausoleum that is under the cemetery. At the cemetery there is one giant tombstone that has like 6 names on it. I do believe the tunnels no longer exist. There is a woman who lives or lived next to the graveyard who claims there are ghost there. She always had a lot of nativity statues in her yard to protect her." There is also a bed in one of the upstairs bedrooms that will not stay made. They say that when it's made up, a ghost sits in the middle of it and they have to go back and remake it. The house was also the scene of a Civil War battle during the 1860's and there are actual bullet holes in the outside walls of the house. A descendant of the Hunter - Dawson line states concerning a gathering at the mansion. "A non-family member had a Polaroid camera and had been taking pictures. She took one picture in the main area off to the right of the main entrance, the “grand” room where they held their gatherings. Anyways, the non-family member decided that she was going to take a picture of a group of us in front of one of the paintings on the wall. She said the usual, “SAY CHEESE” and then took the picture. The picture did not come out of the camera. We thought it was odd, but we thought nothing of it and decided to take another picture. The second picture did come out of the camera. The first picture came out of the camera at the same time. We waited for the pictures to develop. The second picture turned out fine, but the first picture looked like someone had their hand blocking the camera when it was taken. Almost like someone did not want us to take the picture and forced it from coming out."Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 312 Dawson Road between 1st and 2nd Street. This mansion is now listed as a State Historic Site.

NOEL - All Star Pizza - Strange things happen at dark the ovens make weird noises, the walk-in freezer door opens when no one is around, lights flicker on when its close up time, if you drive by at night and look in you can see a white blure that looks like a person standing.

OAK GROVE - Glaser Road - Phantom mists and strange lights are reported to have been seen here dating back over 50 years.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at where South Hwy 185 and West Vine Street meet just southeast of Oak Grove. This road is 3.5 miles long and dead ends at East Springfield Road.

OLD MINES - The grounds of St. Joachim's Church and the local cemeteries - A reporter who lives near the church states, "The house I live in is haunted by an old lady and an old African man. The lights go on and off by themselves, doors slam, dishes rattle and you can hear people talking and walking on the old wooden floors. If you go upstairs when they are walking up there you can actually see the floor boards moving. There have been a lot of other odd things that happen in and around the house, church grounds, and three cemeteries. Also if you park in front of the new cemetery at night or walk through between 12 am and 3am you can hear a baby crying."Directions and other pertinent informationLocated on Pat Daly Road.

OWENSVILLE - Caroline's Grave - From PP member who lived in the area and spent much time at this location: The Legend of Caroline's grave is that back in the 1800's, Caroline lived out at the old homestead with her brother. At the time, he was in the process of building a new house beside the old house. They would attend church every Sunday at the little country church located just a mile or so at most down the road from the house. The Sunday morning that she died, they were returning home from church in a severe thunderstorm, horse and buggy mind you. Lightening struck the buggy and Caroline, she died on the spot from the jolt. Now the one thing that never made sense to me was that her grave and headstone is located at the end of their driveway on the other side of the road, just right there beside the road, almost like today people place grave markers along the highways were people have died in car accidents if that gives a better vizual of her grave. The story goes though, that this is where she was killed by the lightening, they were that close to being home, and that is where he buried her, right at the spot she died. Seems odd, but I guess one could say it is not any stranger then todays highway memorials. The driveway is quite long, my guess would be that it was about 300 to 400 feet down the drive to the house which sat in a valley. There were six of us that went that night, as usual, and as I said we have been there hundreds of times. I had long ceased ghost hunting since I now had small children, but this particular weekend my husband and the kids went to visit family and the old gang decided to get together and take a road trip back in time so to speak. First we stopped at the abandoned church and church cemetery that sits behind, as it has always been known to be haunted as well in the legend. For some time it was used by hunters as a cabin, but had been long abandoned at this point. Then we went further down the road to the house. When we reached the driveway down, we had to get out and look at the grave of course, and it was fine, headstone in place and everything as it should be. We then went on down to the homestead. When you are standing and facing the house, to your left is the unfinished structure that her brother was building and never finished, all production stopped when she died. So if you step to the left and stand facing the partial structure what you would see is the foundation, and then the left side wall was erected already, but nothing else. So just a foundation and one wall on the left side of the foundation. We all got out and locked and closed the car doors. Then we went inside the old house and was poking around, laughing and such. Suddenly we heard a man yell outside, it sounded like it came from the direction of the hillside behind the house. We all ran out of the house thinking that maybe there is a caretaker at this time and figuring we may be in some trouble, but there was no one there, and then we noticed that all the car doors were standing wide open on the vehicle. But even freakier then this was the partial structure next to the house, the wall was reversed on the foundation. For years I have always hesitated to tell about this night thinking people will just thing I crazy, but there was six of us that night and we all saw it. The wall was no longer on the left side of the foundation, it was on the right. And that is when everyone panicked and the only thought for any of us was to just get the heck out of there. But we couldnt. The car was deader then a doornail. It would not start. I do not know how long we sat there panicked with our driver trying to get the car to turn over, seemed like forever, but maybe only moments. It finally started, but then all the way up that long driveway it kept stalling, not dying, but like it could not get any gas, jolting us back and forth, running then not running. It did this all the way until we exited the top of the driveway, and that is when we seen that now her headstone was lying flat down on the ground rather then standing in position like it was when we came in. Once the car stopped all the struggling to run, our driver put the petal to the medal and I dont know how fast we were going, but trust me it was too fast for a gravel road. Not far down the road, a black cat ran in front of the car. Not that odd, except for we were traveling at high speed and that black cat kept running across the road in front of us repeatedly until we got down to the highway turn off. It probably crossed in front of the car about five or six times. It took a couple hours for all of us to calm down after getting off the road and we were all left with a feeling of oppression for lack of a better word, maybe it was shock, I dont know, but it continued to haunt us for a couple days in fact. We all vowed to one another that night that we would never go back there, that Caroline needed to be laid to rest in peace. I think that was probably the 'hung over' feeling that followed after the event, that we all realized the importance of being respectful to the dead and that she had a right to be very angery actually, especially when high school students were always stealing her headstone and planting it in the high school front yard, it was some kind of rite of passage I guess.Directions and other pertinent information:Gravel road located off Hwy 19 in Owensville, and at this time we lack exact directions and will post them as we get information, but we suggest asking any teenager in this small town, they can guide you.

OZARK - Green Bridge on Green bridge road- You normally see a man walking under or on top of the bridge. You hear voices all around you like whispers. Also you can hear doors slamming and footsteps walking in the water.

OZARK - River Side Inn - Old man, Howard, built the restaurant in the early 1900's. He appears late at night in dark rooms [green glow smoking a cigar]. Also there has been times when glasses were suddenly thrown up against the wall, but no one was around.

OZARK - Ozark High School - The school stage is thought to be haunted by a boy who plays tricks and is known to move objects.Directions and other pertinent information:The town of Ozark is located south of Springfield off of US 65. The school is located on SR14, also called West Jackson Street, with the cross streets of North 12th Street to the west and North 9th Street to the east.

PALMER - Palmer - An old civil war town that is haunted by the palmer ghost she died in the 1850 supposedly if you say her name three times she will appear and terrorize you.

PARIS - The downtown Streets of Paris - The ghost is of a woman with a reputation as a bully, she is seen dressed in a bonnet wearing black clothing. She would be seen walking the streets of town intimidating passers-by, this haunting lasted for nearly a century, but her apparition has not been reported being seen for a number a years. A local states, "As story tells, back in World War II there was a lady in Paris whos husband was off to war. While he was there he had fell in love with a nurse that was serving in his camp. He wrote a letter back to his wife telling her of his affair, and in her dispair she had shot herself. After the funeral, people who claim to see this lady in a black dress and veil walking the roads of Paris. There was no certain times that she would appear, but it was mostly everyday. The lady had been seen a few years before somebody had said that they could never see her feet. After that the town was amazed. There was this floating lady that just went through town not doing anything just walking around. There were hundreds of sightings of her up until 1980's when the husband of the woman had died. Since then no one has seen her, though some claimed to have seen her in the graveyard the day of his funeral."ut of the camera. We thought it was odd, but we thought nothing of it and decided to take another picture. The second picture did come out of the camera. The first picture came out of the camera at the same time. We waited for the pictures to develop. The second picture turned out fine, but the first picture looked like someone had their hand blocking the camera when it was taken. Almost like someone did not want us to take the picture and forced it from coming out."Directions and other pertinent information:The city is located in north east Missouri where the roads of US 24 and SR15 and SR 154 meet.

PARK HILLS - Gibson Cemetery - One local states, "As a teenager it was rumored that a vampire was burried there, and a lot of children too. I went there on a few occations. The cemetary was hard to find, it was in the middle of a wooded area and is not marked. The only strange occourance that happened to me was we noticed the tops of the trees were swaying but we felt no wind what so ever. Now a few years later, there was an article in the local paper about the cemetary and the vampire. Back in the 1800's some sort of epidemic came through the area and killed alot of people in the area mostly children and the vampire was a Hungarian imigrant who was an albino, and that is why they thought he was a vampire. In the cemetary there was one grave that was surrounded by an iron fence that was always said to be that of the vampires, I don't know if it is true, but it is interesting. I havent been down in the area in some time, but the last i heard was that the cemetary was being removed and a subdivision was being built in its place." Another says, "The cemetary is a children's cemetary..Apparently in the early 1800's alot of children died..Some said it was an epidemic some say it was a vampire who they say is buried there as well..There is one where 11 kids from the same family is buried there..It's located way back in the woods and very hard to locate..When I was in high school alot of people used to say that devil worshippers carried out their business there,,,Once when I went a friend of mine pulled out a marble from one of the headstones and the wind started blowing very hard but the trees did not move." This is not the first report of the hard wind but no movement of trees. Another local rendtiion of the story goes: A long time ago there was an albino man that moved into the area. Everyone was afraid of him because he was different and wouldn't come out during the daytime. Then Children started to become ill and die they blamed it on the albino man and killed him. His grave was covered with steel bars that were bent as if someone was inside trying to get out. A local states, "The first time I was up there we were on 4-wheelers and we were just riding around and the wind started to blow and the trees like weren't moving at all, and I did notice something glowing. I was on the back of the four wheeler and we went over to the iron bars. The grave was a whitish color but it was kind of glowing." Another local says, "The bent bars are where he supposedly "escaped". However, if you look closely you can tell the bars have been cut and bent inward. There is a tree growing in the center of a sinkhole which is in turn in the middle of the fenced area where the grave is supposed to be. At the beginning of the cemetery there is a small wooden sign identifying the spot as Gibson's Cemetery. There is also a small area fenced off by small landscaping garden fence pieces; it appears to be a pet cemetery, (due to it's size). While walking though the slightly dense woods, I spotted an odd item. It was a Cabbage Patch knock-off doll. The cloth body and half head was entirely covered with green moss. Nothing grew on it's pale cadaverous face. I left it there undisturbed, all I took of it was a couple of pictures." The city reports that Gibson cemetery is a privately owned family plot. And that there has been a discussion of a housing development being built there. But no plans have been made to build there or move the cemetery. The private owner of the cemetery states that strange things do go on in the cemetery and they have experienced the wind blowing effect with no wind. Another family owner says, "My family does own the Gibson Graveyard and what is the actual truth is my family is buried there. The story about the Vampire isn't true, but an albino man lived in Esther and many children had disappeared around the time that he had moved there. They believed he was the cause of the children's disappearance but it turned out that it was an illness an some of the children were found and survived. They had hung him and learned he did not do it later on in the 1800's. The graveyard is now going to be kept up and they are replacing a few headstones. The graveyard is believed to be haunted. I have had experiences of trees blowing around and storms coming out of no where. I believe the graveyard is haunted but that is my personal experience. Another family member reports, "It is a privately owned family plot it is owned by my family but back between 1700-1900 it was for anyone it wasn't until 1910 when my family purchased it I am related to a lot of people buried there tho some of them even having the same last name as me as for the vampire he wasn't really a vampire he was just a Hungarian miner who didn't like to come out at day cause of his skin being so white the people ridiculed him so he became cruel and played jokes on the people at night and one time he said it was him killing the children cause one of the parents said he was a vampire and the town got scared and murdered him buried him put cement on his grave put a rout iron fence around it and hung a cross on it but the cross was stolen and reports of seeing the Hungarian minor walking around by his grave have been reported I know a whole lot about this place and yes park hills was wanting to put subdivisions there but my family wouldn't let them."Directions and other pertinent information:Located just west of town at the corner of Hovis Farm Lane and Wood Street where it dead ends.

PARKVILLE - Park University - During WWII a couple of young women hung themselves in Herr House, a dorm on campus. The room is still being used, but the closet is blocked off. Now, you can hear people walking in empty rooms and other weird things happening.

PARKVILLE - Park University - The Jenkin and Barbara David Theater - On the Park University campus is haunted by the ghost of Jenkin David. He mostly appears two young girls in the stairwells and hallways, dressed in a gray suit.

PATTERSON - Old Fort Benton/ Old Patterson school - You get some really weird feelings around that area it was used by the Confederates back when the war between the states was going on.

PECULIAR - Feed mill - On hot summer nights you can occasionally hear the train whistle blowing they tore the tracks out and there has not been a train through there for at least five years if not more.

PERRYVILLE - St. Boniface Cemetery - At night in this cemetery it's said voices are heard and ghosts have been seen walking the grounds.Directions and other pertinent information:Located downtown on the 100 Block of Feltz Street, with the cross streets of West Saint Joseph Street and Edgemont Blvd.

PERRYVILLE - Indian Hill - Indian Hill is an ancient indian burial mound. Witnesses report viewing the apparition of an Indian at this site.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 8 miles north of Perryville. Take US 61 (also called Kingshighway) north and turn right or east on MO-H, then turn left on Country Road 950.

PEVELY - Girl Scout camp - As you first enter the gate to the camp, The fist set of tents you come to is to the left. Many years ago it was storming very bad one night one of the girls needed to a shower. So she walked to the shower house about 6 or 7 yards from the tents. In girl scouts you have to use the buddy system and she didn’t. She was told to wait till morning and chose not to. She was struck by lightning in the shower house. She was found the next morning burned so badly it was hard to identify her. They don’t use the old shower house any more. Late at night if you sit outside you tent you can see a girl wraped in a towel walking back from the shower house. - March 2008 Update: This is a possible urban legend. there is no shower house by the tents described. Nor has there ever been.

PEVELY - Christina House - Founded by Sister Miriam in 1974 as a house of prayer, ministry and hermitage. The building was later named Christina House after a little girl who had recently died. Its now known as Vision of Peace. Legends of the paranormal activity reported at this site remain undocumented.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just northeast of town at the end of Abbey Monastery Road where it dead ends at the railroad tracks overlooking the river.

PEVELY - The Rock House - It is said that slaves were taken through an underground tunnel to that house. The house sits on top of a hill, and it is rumored that the slaves were buried at the bottom of the hill. Now homes sit at the bottom of the hill, and weird noises and incidents occur in some of those homes.

PLATTE CITY - Pc cemetery - The grave yard has been said that if you go during the bewitching hour, you can see dead people, actual dead people in the ground.. NOt moving, just laying there. Under ground about 6 or so ft.

PLATTSBURG - Haunted C Highway - This highway is haunted by the ghost of a young boy on crutches. There is references to a ghost of a boy on crutches 2 miles north of Plattsburg on C Highway. He appears in front of a car, passes through it, then disappears. A ranch house nearby has also had numerous paranormal occurrences such as books flying off shelves and doors opening and slamming.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 25 miles north of Kansas City by taking I-35 east and exiting north on SSR C. Highway C runs from Downtown Plattsburg south to I-35 just northeast of Kansas City.

Plattsburg - Lake concord - Every once in a while, the ghost of Lake Concord haunts the area. Long ago a boy drowned in the lake, and not discovered until the early 1950's. People have said that they can here a little boy screaming and yelling for help. He did this because no one was around when he was walking on the frozen lake. He fell in and never came back up. So if you live near Lake Concord, you will soon here him.

Plattsburg - Plattsburg High School - The spirit of former star athlete that died in a car wreck in the 60's haunts this high school. On random nights, people in the building have heard basketballs bouncing in the gym when no one is there. There are also reports of strange whisperings, eerie lights, and other strange occurrences. PLEASANT HILL - Katy Trail - There is a listing on this site for the Katy Trail near Pleasant Hill. The only thing about this is that the Katy trail Runs from Sedalia to St Charles Sedalia is at least 30 miles from Pleasant Hill and the Katy trail is probably 35 so it is impossible for the Katy Trail near Pleasant Hill to be haunted, because there is no Katy trail near Pleasant Hill.

POINT LOOKOUT - College of the Ozarks - Numerous hauntings of the campus. Ghost have been seen in the Theatre, in the steam tunnels and power plant, and in the older dorms. One ghost is known to had migrated from the former little theater to the New theater on campus, when the old theater was destroyed for safety reasons.

POPLAR BLUFF - Overby's Furniture Store - It is said a ghost haunts the fourth floor of the old Overby's Furniture store (now a music store) at the corner of Vine and Broadway. According to accounts after the tornado of 1927 the Butler County Courthouse was destroyed and a temporary courtroom was established on the fourth floor of the building. It is rumored a woman in the jail cells in back of the same floor hanged herself and still walks that floor.

POPLAR BLUFF - Railroad Tracks - Eye witness reports of an apparition of a beautiful girl with long brown flowing hair was walking toward them wearing a long white sleeveless wedding dress and carrying a water bucket, she is said to have looked part Indian. When she passed him she bumped him and spilt water down his leg. He turned around to ask her what she was doing out late at night but she was gone. He knew it was a ghost and hurried home to show his wife that his clothes were wet and told her not to repeat the story. It is said it was the Spirit of Charity taking a drink of water to the thirsty, that others had seen her with a bible.

POPLAR BLUFF - Wilcox Rd. Railroad Tracks - People report seeing ghosts here during the evening. A story here is of a train which jumped the tracks. It is claimed that if you get out of you car you can see a decapitated man in the ditch searching for his head. A local states, "The story is that a train wrecked at that crossing in the '40s and most of the people died. A pregnant woman was found, but her unborn child was gone. A decapitated man was found but his head remained missing. They say if you stop on the railroad tracks and turn your vehicle off as well as the lights, radio, etc, your windows will fog up unusually quick. Once they are too foggy to see out them, someone will either knock or you roll down your window to see a ghost woman asking if you have seen her baby. Also, if you get out and look in the ditch, a man with no head has been seen feeling his way around for it. I have also heard stories of animal sacrifices and satanic rituals happening under a bridge a bit further down the road." Another local says, " Within the past 5 years another man was killed there. He had been sniffing gas and laid across the tracks and fell asleep. A train came and starting blowing his horn, the conductor of the train said the man sat up and looked in the opposite direction and laid back down. He was killed minutes later." This reporter states he has obtained photos of orbs at the site. He also states, "We were told about a house where a man killed his wife years ago. I believe we found the remainder of the foundation last night." He states they obtained orb photos there also, but they were only manifesting in photos where a female friend was in the photo as well. Another local states, "I have heard that one night this married couple had just laid the baby down for the night (and keep in mind the baby wasn't even a year old yet) not long after they put the baby to bed they went to bed as well. When they woke up the next morning the mother went to check on her baby and the baby was gone. All the doors and windows were locked in the house so while the mother went around looking for the baby the father went around checking all the doors and windows and nothing was broke everything was locked up just like it was when they had went to bed. They had called the police and kept on searching for the baby they also had help from the neighbors and when they had found the baby it was face down in the creek that had water in it. The creek that the baby had died in would be the one with a little concrete bridge that has no side rails on it." Another local says, "We did see a red light moving down the train tracks. A accompanying friend told us that its the Wilcox Ghost Light. That the Wilcox family's son was killed playing on the train tracks. They found the boy's body but they never found the head! Seeing that light was unreal. I wanted a better look so sat there for a couple of minutes. Til it looked like it was moving toward us! They closer it got the more intense it became. That's when I floored the gas and left! Its still one of the weirdest things I've ever seen!" Another local reports, "My husband and I checked out this place last Friday night since so many people had seen stuff here. We got there about 10 pm. We took main street to Wilcox RD and after we drove over the tracks, we got out of my truck. The place was completely dark so we had to use a flashlight. We walked towards the tracks and when we got up on them, We both heard a train. The weird thing was, this train sounded close like it was crossing the tracks where we were at. But in the total darkness, there were no train lights. My husband got down and felt the tracks and said they were perfectly still. Suddenly out of nowhere, the train noise stopped. Right then, We heard this agonizing moaning (male voice) coming from the other side of the tracks. It sounded maybe 15 or 20 feet away but it was so loud. Now, he is very hard of hearing (due to gunfire he was around in the marines) and even he heard it. He started looking around to see where the moaning came from, but no one was in sight. He's also very skeptical about the paranormal and ghost hunting, but he agrees this was beyond weird. The sounds were by far the creepiest thing I've ever experienced though. I've heard of some hoaxs around here but this place was completely real."Directions and other pertinent information:From Wilcox road after 1/4 of a mile the road will fork, turn left at the fork. Continue down this road to the rail road tracks. Once you turn on Wilcox road, after about 1/4 of a mile the road will fork and you need to go left at the fork. The road is curvy and paved, but after a few miles it turns into gravel. Once the road turns to gravel go forward for about another mile till you come to a railroad crossing.

POPLAR BLUFF - Woodlawn Cemetery - A mans voice yelling about midnight in the summertime. "What do you want, Who are you looking for?" It's so loud it sounds like a loud speaker, then lots of voices can be heard whispering at the same time, it sounds like a crowded room full of people.

RAYMONDVILLE - Allen Cemetery - The gravestone of Jodi Hamilton is rumored to be haunted. This man is said to have committed several murders, but I can't find any of the names of his victims. He is said to have later been caught and hung. His body is reported to have been buried in Allen Cemetery. His gravestone is said to glow. A local states that there is a book that is the county library, that they read in the late 1960's in grade school about the murders of the family. Possibly a book of the history of Texas county. Mr Hamilton was a black man, and the family he was alleged to have killed was a white family he worked for. There are also stories that he killed the family along the piney river, and you can hear the sound of wagon wheels clamoring along the rivers edge. Another local says, "The Jody Hamilton story is well documented in the Texas County Library or at least it used to be. Contrary to the reference of Mr. Hamilton as BLACK he was very white. Yes he did work for a family and yes he did murder them all including a baby. Which legend says you can hear crying near the creek where the family lived. Mr. Paul Cheek a former teacher at Houston, Missouri only a few miles from Raymondville gave his students each year a copy of the entire story. Mr. Cheek is now deceased but his work I am sure is available through his son or widow. As for Mr. Hamilton he was hung on the Texas County Court House lawn. There use to be a photo in the news paper archives on micro film years ago of this hanging." This local claims there is nothing paranormal about this cemetery, but he also makes statement that indicates that there is nothing paranormal about any place reported to be haunted, as he said, no ghosts nor spooks, weird, strange, etc., its just another town.Directions and other pertinent information:Located near where Country Road 3200 and Brushy Creek Road meet, on the east side. It is located approx. 1 mile south on highway 137, turn right on the gravel road. Its approx. 1 and a half miles on the left side of the road.

RAYTOWN - The Insane Asylum - Update: The Asylum as been torn down and it is very dangerous! No Trespassing - Old burnt down building. Claims to have heard footsteps and moaning inside the building. Also blood has been seen on the floor. An elderly man is said to haunt the place.

RAYTOWN - Rickey Road - This road has constant twists and turns throughout it. There are no street lights but woods on both sides lining the edge of the road. It has a age-worn brick wall along the side that looks like a old, overgrown cemetery. A valuable source has said they saw a cemetery on either side of the road the first time they had driven on it. Just as they had went around a curve, they said they had seen a woman in it stretching her arms toward the road-or possibly them and standing still. They described her as wearing a wedding dress and a veil. They were going to return at sunrise to look around (they liked to photograph cemeteries). When they had returned to the location, there was no cemetery, but a house under construction, and a wide open field, and on the other side, some trees on a small cliff. They said that the cemetery couldn't have been their imagination, they weren't even thinking about anything to do with it, or scared for any reason. Another resident described seeing a head with a terrified expression on its face roll out of the woods and under the front of the car, again not finding anything when he went back to find out if his mind was just playing tricks on him. There is a old run down wood bridge about half way down the road, and a series of chevron signs before it. Somebody has spray-painted with red paint a letter on each of these signs. Oddly enough there was a perfect number of signs for them to spell M-U-R-D-E-R D-I-E and the last sign which is directly beside the beginning of the bridge says "Back & Here" (whatever that means). You have to slow down for the bridge and go about 5 mph over it because the wood is so warped, and numerous people have said when they do this they notice lots of movement on both sides of the bridge and sounds of something walking (on two legs not 4). All reports have been said to have been during the night and one during the day, and for some reason if you bring up Rickey Road all the locals voices change and they all know of it and have their own stories to tell. Though most of them wont utter details only that they have been there and something had happened to them that has made them never want to return. Kids from the area go there for an adrenaline rush and turn their headlights off.

REEDSPRINGS - on a back road of reedsprings - Heres how the story goes.... a old guy owned a plantation and he had slaves work for him and all of his slaves died (he killed them) and these group of kids burned down the house and the next day they went back to the house and it was rebuilt (go off dd highway down a dirt road and go look for a old house with stuff growing around it) and also go up the hill around the corner and youll find it right there you cant miss it! please dont destroy enjoy!

RICH HILL - Ryder Cemetery - Reports of yelling and no one around.

RICHLAND - "Joe's Cave" - In the early 1900's a black man named Joe was accused of raping a young white girl. He protested his innocence saying, "God would prove I didn't do it". Legend has it that he survived the electric chair but a group of vigilantes took him to the cave where he was tarred and feathered and then hung with barbed wired in one of the larger back rooms of the cave. Joe had been a fiddle player and each night after supper would sit on his front porch and play the fiddle. Now if you go to the cave just around dark you can hear his fiddle music echoing though out it. - May 2005 clarification/ correction: This is a historical incident, so there are records that provide the date (1839), the name and age of the girl (Amanda Fulbright, age 10), the name of the man who killed Joe (Thomas Rafferty shot him). Joe's dead body was taken from the Fulbright property in Laclede County, MO, to the cave in Camden County, MO (about 10 miles), a medical doctor dissected the body, boiled the flesh off the bones, and rearticulated the skeleton. The doctor’s motive was knowledge of anatomy. Also, the cave does not have any "larger back rooms." The first room goes about 75 feet, then tapers down to a hole only large enough for a modest stream of water. No human could enter the hole. And, of course, there was no electric chair in 1839, and barbed wire wasn't invented until about 1876.

RICHLAND - Wilson Cemetery - At this haunted cemetery full apparitions have been seen and voices are also said to have been heard. One visitor says it had the sent of jasmin and was very warm in the cemetery. A paranormal investigator states, "Temperature changes and smells are actually signs that something paranormal is going on. This type of activity has happened at some of the most active haunted sites we have investigated. Orb photos are far more common and mundane than experiencing changes in temperature and the smells.Directions and other pertinent information:Not actually located in Richland, but this is the closest major city to this remote site. Turn left at route 66 then turn right at Springs road (about 300 yards) staying to the right onto Stevens road then Hall road. Hall road runs into Topaz then turn right, Topaz dead ends at the cemetery.

RICHMOND - Wollard House - This home is reported to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who died in this house. The womans apparition has been seen inside the home. When her body was discovered, so much time had elapsed that her dog had also died in the home from lack of food and water. The ghost of her dog is also reported being seen approaching people and begging for food.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 600 Wollard Blvd near Chapel Drive.

RIDGEDALE - Big Cedar Lodge - At the Devils Pool, (the Indians called it Spirit Pool), the ghost of a woman named Dorothy is reported to be seen and felt. Her presence has been most active in and around the pool. Her body was cremated in Mexico and returned to the pool. She is known to touch people and her voice has been heard. Ghostly lights have been seen, also chilling breezes are reported to be felt.Directions and other pertinent information:612 Devils Pool Road. Located between the cities of Ridgedale and Branson, from downtown Branson where US 65 and SR76 also called West Main Street meet, take US 65 south for 8.9 miles and turn right or west on SR 86. Go down it for .7 miles, turn right on Road 86-85 and go down it .3 miles to the fourth road on your left. Turn left on this local road and continue on for .5 miles to Canyon Drive on your right. ROLLA / ST. JAMES - "Goat Mans Grave - Pinehill Cemetery in Spook Hollow" - (Also see Doolittle/Newburg listing for goatman) Pinehill Cemetery is supposedly haunted by the "Goat Man" and others, reported policeman have been spotted appearing out of no-where and then disappearing out of nowhere. There are a lot of scary stories about this place that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. It is pretty freaky. From PP, this is our stomping ground so we will tell you what we know. Spook Hollow has been notorious for just being a very spooky area. The road itself lends an eery essence, with the curving about and the trees that lean over the road causing shadowed areas in the road that seem cooler and darker. Back in the 80's and early 90's, the inhabitants of Spook Hollow Rd. were and oddity in themselves. One residence decorated the trees in the front yard with hanging baby dolls. People lived in an old abandoned school bus with is graffitied with satanic symbols. They were reported to be hostile inhabitants. The area is well reknowned for its satanic activity. Being close to Salem, MO., where there is a lot of satanic cult groups, the area surrounding Pinehill Cemetery was and possibly still is a favorite location for the cults ritualistic meetings. I personally, a PP member, had a run in with a satanic group at Pinehill Cemetery back in 1991, when visiting the cemetery around midnight on a full moon night, so I give great warning of caution when visiting this site at night during their ritualistic times, full moons and pagan holidays. It has always been believed that members of the satanic church actually inhabit some of the homes in the area so it may be a hostile environment. Currently, there has been a lot of changes out on Spook Hollow Rd., new homes built, land cleared, and the residence that adorned the trees with hanging baby dolls no longer exists, a new house in its place. The old abandoned school bus still remains along side the road. Goatmans grave is said to be a burial mound in approximately the middle of the cemetery that is grown up with weeds and a tree has bent over the grave covering it with its branches and leaves. It is difficult to say if there is really a grave in this spot or not. The cemetery itself however is very eery, mostly due to the very old tombstones, most being from the 1800's or early 1900's, althought there are a couple newer graves, the most recent being of a young man from ST. James who died in a car accident. Also the rock mound graves towards the back of the cemetery lend a atmosphere of eeriness. There are childrens graves, many entire families of children who have died in close proxemity of one another, but this is the area near Meremac Springs, a colony where the plague went through and took the lives of many children in the 1800's. In the Springs up on the hill resides another cemetery that is filled with the graves of children, entire families of children, whose lives were ended by the plague. Pinehill Cemetery is active for spirits. We have obtained many orbs, a photo of the Guardian of the cemetery, evps, streaks, electromagnetic readings. The cemetery is always much cooler then its surrounding area. Inside the cemetery the temperature drops greatly even if the middle of summer, it feels like the cemetery is air conditioned. It is a great place to investigate, just take caution when going out there due to the satanic activity that goes on there as well. As for Goatmans grave, questionable as to if it even exists and is not just an urban legend. As a long time resident of the St. James and Rolla area, I was always told of Goatman roaming the woods of the Doolittle/Newburg area, and I personally had an experience while living in Doolittle with what is believed to be Goatman. I personally do not believe in what I would call a "Mythical" creature of a half man, half goat, but something happened at my home one night that I cannot explain to this day, and the neighbors and other locals say it was Goatman, this story being told in the Doolittle listing.Directions and other pertinent information:Located 10.3 miles east of Rolla or just a few miles south of the town of St. James. The cemetery is located from where Pine Hill Road & Country Road 3450 meet by going south on 3470, a short dead end road. You can also access by St. James, head towards Meremac Springs and right after the golf course on the right side of the road, you will see a gravel road that is marked with a sign that says, "Spook Hollow Road". It is a handmade wooden sign leaning against the tree at the start of the road (See St. James for more haunts in this area of Spook Hollow).

RUSSELLVILLE - Old Elementary School Caboose - On Halloween nights it is known for an old guy who lived in the caboose years ago and died there. Appears to be seen whittling things with a knife. He also throws it at you. He opens and closes the door to the caboose a lot too even at daytime.

SALEM - Casey's General Store on McArthur - The Casey's on McArthur was built on the site of an old home. The elderly people who had owned the home had died there. Ever since Casey's has been built, the employees have reported the walk-in doors opening and shutting, things in the back room falling off of shelves. Things taken off of shelves and being stacked neatly on the floor in the middle of the night after the store is closed. The smell of perfume is smelled often when it is just the opening crew early in the morning. Footsteps, sighs, and cold places are also very frequent.

SALEM - Subway - Over 60 Years ago a old woman and her little girl used to live here until it burned down. Around 2 at night if you wait by the front of subway you can hear small Cries of the child and screams of the woman. - June 2008 Update: The Subway burned to the ground about a couple of years ago. It was built back up again in the same spot but while the fire was burning they heard screams inside the building but couldn't get in because the structure was collapsing. Later when they inspected the building (basically looking for a body) they found nothing.

SAVANNAH - Shady Lawn Nursing Home - Formerly a mental facility, there have been many sightings and sounds blames on a ghost they call "Oscar". Oscar was a patient in the mental facility and before he died he swore to never leave and to make everyone's lives there hell. My fiance worked as a CMT (med-tech) there, she didn't believe in ghosts until Oscar made a bunch of noise and scared her out of the basement one night.

SEANATH - "Crybaby's Bridge." - There is a bridge over the river over on a road there. A long time ago, a farmer, his wife and his kid lived there. The dad was gone to town, and the mother was doing laundry. Her child had wandered out into the river. The mother heard her child crying and she herself couldn’t swim, but she jumped in anyways. They both drown. Today, if you park on the bridge, you'll get this terrifying feeling. The chills, the shakes. really cold. and legend has it, that if you read the lords prayer backwards while on the bridge, you'll see the mother walking towards you with her waterlogged child in her arms, asking for help. then, the bridge will collapse, and you'll join them in watery death. no ones ever been brave enough to try it.

SEDALIA - Bothwell Hotel - Reporter states, "I stayed there with a friend and heard knocking on our door multiple times...each time we checked and nothing was there. Spoke with the staff and they said only one floor is haunted and that was the one we were staying on." Other stories of doors slamming and knocking have been reported we are told.

SEDALIA - The Screaming Lady - The story is this mother and son lived in a house on this road which the house is still there on a corner, and the son dragged his mom down the road and then murdered her. Supposedly you can hear her screaming. The son then buried her behind the house and put a concrete step (on the back of the house) over top of where he buried her.Directions and other pertinent information:Located in Sedalia on Green Road. From downtown Sedalia on US 50 (Broadway Blvd) where the Katy Trail crosses the road turn south on Ssr U (Ingram Ave). Continue south on Ingram for 4 miles then turn left or east on Green Road. Green Road runs for 2 miles and dead ends onto Pleasant Hill Road.

SIBLEY - Jackson County- "Bone Hill"- There is a legend around parts of Jackson County now that is referred to as "Bone Hill and the 7-year Light".

SIKESTON - Hart Cemetery - Strange lights have been seen floating in this old graveyard. A paranormal investigator witnessed an apparition at this location.Directions and other pertinent information:Located in north east Sikeston. From where Kennedy Drive meets Ingram Rd, take Ingram north for 1/2 a mile, the cemetery will be on your left.

SIKESTON - Sewer by Lee Hunter - Some people say that if you go on the famous day of Halloween at midnight and shut off your car,.. and in a bit you can hear a baby crying. This story is similar to the Hart Cemetery.

SIKESTON - Towosahgy State Park - This location is sacred to the Indians, with stories of spirits here.Directions and other pertinent information:Located southwest of Sikeston. From where I-55 meets I-57 (also called US 60), take US 60 east for 13 miles and turn right or east on the US 60 (US62) exit. Take this for 5.2 miles to SR 77. SMITHVILLE - Smithville Lake - There are several places upon this lake that are supposed to be haunted. In one of the places, there are road signs that appear to bleed and have bullet holes in them. They disappear though when people get close. There have also been reports of strange occurrences at a place called Devil's Bridge. Devils bridge is located off of 92 HWY East outside of Smithville. It is where there are five roads that use to meet and make a pentagram. The bridge may have since been destroyed.

SPARTA - Jenkins Road - when approaching Jenkins road from the north heading south one can stop and see the road and trees surrounding it moving away like running water. Mysterious lights appearing out of nowhere coming towards you, as soon as one stops on Jenkins road and gets out of car. It is said that an old farmer who owned the property had a tractor flip on top of him and crushed him on the road when he was pulling someone out of the ditch in the winter back in the 70's.

SPRINGFIELD - Pythian Castle (Orphanage) - It is not uncommon here to hear male or females voices, to bump into a mass, hear noises such as doors shutting or boxes being moved with no one around or to see an image. Orbs have been detected in several areas of the building along with temperature changes and voices have been caught on tape. Some even claim to have gotten ghostly images in their photos. This site was featured in the Booth Brothers "Children of the Grave" documentary, that we would recommend the reader to obtain. There is a malicious spirit in the castle, a large man that is believed to have sexually molested orphans up on the 5th floor. SPRINGFIELD - Bass Country Inn (old Howard Johnson's) - Carl a former bus person, still haunts the grounds. He has been seen in the kitchen and in the halls. Things fall off the shelves. You see legs on the other side of the work table, but when you crouch down to see who it is and no one is there. Out of the corner of your eye you see someone go into the office, but the door is locked and no one is inside, you can be walking down the hall and see someone coming towards you and then they are not there. SPRINGFIELD - Bloody Hill - Cold spots and apparitions have been reported.

SPRINGFIELD - Brooks Phelps Grove Park Bridge - Off of National on Bennett is Phelps Grove Park under the third bridge late at night you can see a woman in a wedding dress known as "Bride under the Bridge" that was killed on her wedding day. This is a bridge made out of concrete and medium to small sized rocks. At night, it was somewhat cloudy and when the moon would break through the clouds and hit the rocks, you can definitely see the shape of bride's head and veil in the rocks.

SPRINGFIELD - Central High School - The first high school in Springfield was built in the late 1800s. Old room 311 is supposedly haunted by sounds and a door that locks itself, but renovations of the school have renumbered the rooms and straightened out the hallway. Many places in the basement have been said to be haunted as well as the fourth floor attic. Again, renovations have made these places harder to find. There are also tunnels under the school that are said to have a presence occupying them. Addition: (Was Springfield Senior High School). Under the school grounds and the building itself there are caves that run north east to Dowling park to where the mouth of the cave is still accessible (although it is gated off you can still walk about 20 feet into the mouth of the cave. The story goes that back in the time of the underground railroad that there were some folk that were caught and hanged in the cave. SPRINGFIELD - Drury University - Clara Thompson Hall - The origin is not known of this ghost, but many people have seen pianos playing by themselves and doors closing.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 900 North Benton Ave. The cross street is East Central Street.

SPRINGFIELD - Drury University - Soccer Field - The soccer field off of Bennett street was built over sacred Native American ground. There have been reports of a presence there.

SPRINGFIELD - Drury University - Smith Hall - Before Smith Hall was built, there used to be lots of old Victorian houses. One house had a little girl in it. That house caught on fire one day, but the girl stayed in the house so she could retrieve her teddy bear. Some days the girls that live in Smith Hall find their locked doors opened, all their drawers opened, and a teddy bear sitting in the center of their room because the little girl is looking for hers. She has been seen roaming the halls and photos of her have been taken.

SPRINGFIELD - Drury University - Wilhoit Theatre - Light flickered at night. Some said it was the ghost of "Bob". Strangely the theatre was dedicated to Bob Wilhoit

SPRINGFIELD - Old "houn dawg" rendering plant - A former employee of the plant who was killed in a workplace accident is known to turn lights on and off, and is a nuisance to the businesses that occupy the building now by tossing paper and rubbish around.

SPRINGFIELD - Landers Theatre - Little Theatre - Along with the spirit of the stage manager who comitted suicide and the baby, there are, in addition, some 100 other ghosts haunting the theatre. For example, there are the spirits of two secretaries in the box office that like to throw things. There is even the spirit of a little dog that is rarely seen. Lander's Theatre is by far the most haunted spot in Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD - Little Theater - A janitor is believed to have died in this theater during a fire in the early twentieth century. His ghost has been seen in the upper balcony by lone actors on the stage. There is also a story about a baby that was accidentally dropped from the upper balcony one evening. It is said to repeat its fall for actors while they are practicing.

SPRINGFIELD - Reed Middle School - On the 4th floor balcony, if you are very quiet and still you can hear footsteps. And even low murmurs sometimes.

SPRINGFIELD - Springlawn Farm - Aka - Albino Farm Bridge - March 2008 has been removed.

SPRINGFIELD - State Offices Buildings - In the main building, at night, a presence can be felt following you. Also, there is an elevator shaft no longer in use where one can feel cold spots and a presence watching them. Presence can be felt in the basement and also on the roof. The building was once a bank and there is an old vault in the basement and a blocked off tunnel that runs between buildings under the entire square. Hangings were once done in the square. Also, at night in the Department of Family Services building, a presence can be felt throughout the building, particularly in the basement where strange noises can be heard. Addition: Reports that an old elevator that has not had any power to it for a long time, its doors open and close on their own. The door on the old bank vault in the basement will not close. With two men pushing they can get it to within a foot of closing and then they experience the feeling of it being pushed back against them. The back of the vault is glass where you can see all the gears and there are reports of seeing the gears turning on their own. Where the old bank vault sits used to be the old access to the Dowling Cave which was sealed off when the vault was built. The same cave that runs under the high school noted above. SPRINGFIELD - Doling Cave - The old Fox Theater in Springfield, Mo. is listed in the Shady Oak Cine, but it closed down in 1976. It opened in 1916, and was built on top of an entrance to the Doling Cave, It then became a bank and is now the Missouri State Building. The bank vault was built set inside the opening of the cave and then sealed around. Doling Cave was part of the underground railroad, and the tunnels of the cave runs all under north Springfield, and most of the buildings that are built on top of the cave are listed in haunter places in Spfd.(the old court house, central high school, The Church across from central high, welfare office on the square, and several others). There were several murders, and torturing going on down there (in the cave) during the slave era, and a lot of underworld activity.Directions and other pertinent information:The entrance to Doling Cave is in Doling Park.

SPRINGFIELD - Winoka Lodge - May 2005 correction: Formerly stated as a Girl Scout Camp. it is Belived to be haunted due to the sounds heard and such but it's not by girl scouts. Now due to trespassing the property is watched by the police. It was the site of an old hunting Club located just outside of Springfield Mo next to the old hwy 65 bridge. March 2008 Update: reports are pointing to this being an urban legend.

SPRINGFIELD - Wilson's Creek - People have seen ghosts and heard strange noises like guns and cannons. Apparitions of Confederate soldiers are seen more often.

SPRINGFIELD - Wilson's Creek Battle field - Site of the civil war battle in south west Missouri. At nighttime you can hear solders walking and talking in the woods at the site.

SPRINGFIELD - University Plaza Hotel - "The Colonel" has been seen by almost all the hotel staff that works in the Convention Center. He is seen late at night between midnight and 4am. Staff will see him in the ballroom and in the back hallways. He is an older man dressed all in black. The most infamous sighting was by a new employee that asked another employee who the man dressed all in black was that he just saw walking down the hall. The Colonel is thought to have been a well-decorated civil war hero and the owner of a large plantation that once stood on the ground where the University Plaza Hotel now stands. These sightings have not been made public because of the hotel not wanting it to hurt business.

SPRINGFIELD - Springfield National Cemetery - At this haunted cemetery photographs of apparitions and orbs, and glowing gravestones have been taken. Civil War soldiers are buried in this graveyard.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 1702 East Seminole Street in downtown Springfield. SPRINGFIELD - Freudenberger House - Also known as Freddy House by the students on the Southwest Missouri State University Campus. This five-story residences hall was designed to accommodate 740 students, it also houses the military science department. The ghost of a woman is reported to haunt this building. The ghost is referred to as the (Dorm Mom). Activity has occurred on the fifth floor, but may also be taking place on the other floors as well.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 1000 E. Madison Street.

ST. CHARLES - St. Charles Nursing Home - The sounds of footsteps from an unoccupied floor can be heard.

ST. CHARLES - Lindenwood University - This campus is haunted by the spirit of Mary Sibley, founder of the college. Students have seen her image and heard piano music, which Mrs. Sibley was so fond of. Also, the campus theatre and library is said to be haunted.

ST. CHARLES - Lindenwood University - Sibley hall - Students on the top floor have reported to wake up in mid-air with their mattress below them. There is one hallway that no students are allowed to enter, because it is haunted. It has been boarded shut.

ST. CHARLES - The Winery Of The Little Hills Restaurant - The ghosts of a man and woman have been seen here.Directions and other pertinent information:501 South Main Street, located between Pike and Tompkins Street. 636-946-9339

ST. CHARLES - 517 South Main Street - There are claims that the ghost of a little girl who died in a fire haunts this site.Directions and other pertinent information:Located between Pike and Tompkins Street.

ST. CHARLES - 523 South Main Street - Reportedly is haunted by the ghost of a riverboat captain with the sounds of a rocking chair heard here.Directions and other pertinent information:Located between Pike and Tompkins Street.

ST. CHARLES - 700 South Main Street - At the shops here the smells of food and the sounds of voices and footsteps have been heard in the hallways and staircases. One of the voices is heard speaking in French. Objects have been reported being seen to move here.Directions and other pertinent information:Located between Perry and Water Street.

ST. CHARLES - David Mcnair House - This home is known to fill with the smell of cooking food.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 724 south Main Street between Perry and Water Street.

ST. CHARLES - The 400 block of South Main Street running to 3rd Street - This entire street is said to be haunted. Some of the bodies were missing when the old Borromeo Cemetery was moved to the new Borromeo Cemetery on Randolph Street. Many of the little shops off of Main Street to Third Street are haunted.Directions and other pertinent information:400 block of South Main Street running to 3rd Street

ST. CHARLES - Saint Charles Community College - There are two ghosts reported to be here, one is a very old man and the other is of a woman. Voices have been heard and full apparitions seen. Also strange lights, cold spots and objects being moved are also reported.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Saint Peters. From where SR 94 meets Mid Rivers Mall Drive, take Mid Rivers Mall Drive north for 1.8 miles.

ST. CHARLES - Molly the Witch - The legend goes that the girl was split into two parts (some say four) and each body part was then buried in different locations. It is said that every year the body parts "grow" closer to each other. The head stone is in a deeply wooded area and witchcraft is practiced at this site. Visitors have claimed to experienced the inability to light a lighter unless it is held over the opening dug in the ground. That rocks taken from the site cause uncontrollable shaking to those who hold them. One visitor told of going during the fall season when all the plant life in the woods was dormant, and in the hole in front of the stone where people had dug, were growing little white flowers. There was an update that the location has been removed to make way for a new subdivision. Someone else from the area disputed that. If so, then St. Charles may have another haunted street or some unknowing new home owner may have a ghostly guest.Directions and other pertinent information:Located in Greens Bottom. One grave site is close to the Katy Trail in Greens Bottom, but closer to Pitman Hill than Caulks Hill. Up off the path of a private road, about 500-600 feet down Greens Bottom road from Caulks Hill Road. The other location was on Towers Road in another grave yard behind a house.

ST. CLAIR - Anaconda Cemetery - Reports of this place emitting eery feelings, and cameras stopped working after only taking a couple of photos. This site also listed under *Barnhart*, so please reference for other information. A visitor states, "This is a very visible place. It can be seen from I-44 and a couple of houses in the area. You have to be ready to haul it out of there quick. If you want to research it, go during the day and if you want pics then you gotta get there, get the pics and get out. The flash can be seen from the rest area on I44 where State police hang out. You can no longer drive into the cemetary. The new gate leaves room for one car to turn arround. One way in and one way out. There are alternate ways in but you will need a driver and have to walk a little."Directions and other pertinent information:Located 3 miles southwest of St. Clair, and 1 mile east of the small town of Anaconda on Sycamore Lane.

ST. CLAIR - Iron Hill Road - The Ghost of a man is reported to have been seen along this road.Directions and other pertinent information:Located just NE of town starting at Pasadena Ave, running for 4 1/2 miles ending at where the name of the road changes to Shawneetown Ford Road.

ST. GENEVIEVE - Downtown St. Genevieve - A lot of the places in the downtown area are claimed to be haunted by people who lived in all of the old houses. (Ste. Gen was the 1st settlement west of the Mississippi, so it is really old) the Valle house across from Valle School and the Catholic Church is claimed to be haunted by the 1st owners of the house and their dogs. There have been reported cold spots and sometimes in storms or late at night you can hear the dogs running up and down the halls of the house.

ST. GENEVIEVE - Guibourd Valle House - Built in the 1780's the ghost of a man dressed in 1800's clothing and viewed only from the waist up has been seen in the second floor bedroom, and heard making crashing sounds and moving objects about. Also footsteps are reported to be heard in the kitchen.Directions and other pertinent information:Located downtown on North 4th Street, at the cross streets of Jefferson Street and Merchant Street. ST. GENEVIEVE - Memorial Cemetery - This very old cemetery is in run down condition and was closed down after reports of placing bodies too close together. There are legends and stories of this graveyard now being haunted.Directions and other pertinent information:It runs the lengths of the 500 to 800 blocks of Jefferson Street. The cross streets are North 5th Street and North 8th Street.

ST. GENEVIEVE - The Delassus-Kern House - It is told by the locals that this house in haunted. It is boarded up, but well maintained.Directions and other pertinent information:Located two miles south of Ste. Genevieve on U.S. Highway 61.

ST. GENEVIEVE - Main Street Inn Bed & Breakfast - A guest to the Inn reported that during the night about 2 am, they were awoken by what sounded like a large metal pipe falling from the ceiling and landing on a concrete floor. That the sound appeared to come right from within their room, but they were on the top floor. The next day in checking with others, no one else heard anything.Directions and other pertinent information:221 North Main Street between Washington Street and Ziegler Street.

ST. JAMES / ROLLA - Spook Hollow Rd.- The legend goes that if you go down Spook Hollow road that you will end up at Pinehill cemetery. If you go into the cemetery at night, that no matter what time of year it is the weather is nice and cozy (PP - it is very cool inside the cemetery, like it is air conditioned). The legend also says that there were a group of children that were going to the cemetery to perform some kind of sacrifice. Some of the children can be heard from some of the sacrifices that were done. There is also a little house on that road that people say house some of the adults that were involved. (See Rolla listing). From PP - We have a full report on Spook Hollow Road and Pinehill Cemetery in the Rolla / St. James listing. We have never heard this story about children and sacrifices and believe that is just an elaboration on the urban legend of the road and cemetery. The area is reknown for satanic ritual activity, which is true, a PP team member having personally had a run in with a satanic group meeting in the woods by the cemetery back in 1991, so we advise caution in visiting the location on nights favored by satanists for holding rituals. The cemetery itself holds the graves of many children, alot of them having died during the plague that swept through the area in the 1800's. There are children apparations at the cemetery as well as many other paranormal occurances. Our group personally witnessed a girl child apparation sitting under the big tree crying, and we have experienced playfulness of a child running in and out amoungest us in a stretch of childrens graves. There used to be a house where the inhabitants hanged babydolls from the trees in the front yard, like ornaments, but that house is now gone and replaced by a new residence. Although very ghoulish to decorate with hanging by the neck babydolls, it could be speculated that the residents at the time just wanted to lend to the legend of the area, to have some fun with those who traversed the road looking for a good scare. JAMES / ROLLA - Snelson-Brinker Cabin - Back in the 1800's a slave girl who was only 16 or so was accused of drowning a child in a nearby spring, she was later hung in the town square of Steelville. The child along with it's sibling is buried in a small cemetary just beside the cabin. The cabin is the oldest home in Crawford County and is a historical landmark. Beside the cabin is the little cellar like structure where the slave Mary slept. Some have reported feelings of uneasiness, almost unwelcome feelings. Some have noticed a eerie wind to the east of the cabin. Some also claim that the slave girl is buried in a stone structure built close to the water tower in Steelville just off High St. and it is eery to visit.Directions and other pertinent information:Located between Rolla and Steelville to the east. The cabin is 9 miles west of Steelville on SR8/SR68 just west of N Mo-68. The cabin is down the highway from County Rd 3450 that leads to the Pinehill Cemetary. You go to Meramec Springs Park, but go past it following around the curve and it is just a bit further up on a hill to left of the highway. The Historical Society was caretaking the property for touring, but it is now privately owned. Levi Snelson, who built the cabin, is buried in the Pinehill Cemetery.

ST. JAMES / ROLLA -St. James Restaurant/Cafe - I will have to look up the name of this little hole in the wall cafe and update this listing. The cafe is located on the main business street in St. James, on the same block as Cardetti's furniture store, but opposite side of the street. On the same side of the street, the little corner tavern is on one end of the block and this little cafe is on the other end of the block, right before the railroad tracks. While in the area doing research on the Snelson-Brinker Cabin and Pinehill Cemetery, we stopping into this cafe to have lunch. We questioned the employees and patrons about the research locations, and in long conversation one of the employees noted to us that the cafe we were sitting in was haunted as well. The employees told us about how the bell on the handicap entrance is jingling when no one is near it and the door is locked also, as it is not in use. Experiences of voices, shadow people and other paranormal activity. In asking what they thought could be the cause of the activity, one employee stated that the original owner had died in the cafe, in fact right at my feet where I was sitting at a table. That they knew it was his spirit still roaming the little restaurant.

ST. JOSEPH - Benton High School - It is said that if you go to the third floor at night and try to walk down the 200 foot hallway, you will get books thrown at you...it is also said that if u walk down the hall and yell, lockers will start opening and you will here people on the intercom talking from the main office in the building...the school is built on top of an old indian burial, when u walk into the main entrance of the school building, and as soon as you enter the door, you are stepping on the leader of the Indian tribe leader. And about 10-15 years ago a secretary died and now and days when you walk into the office you can smell the perfume she wore, and the chair that she sat in will always be lowered and comforted how she had it when she was a secretary at the school. Also on the third floor when you walk down it and look into classrooms through the door you can see people sitting in a room doing homework, the people doing homework there is sum old students who died in a car crash.

ST. JOSEPH - Benton High School - AnnexThe annex of the school is haunted by a mysterious ghost. One night a woman reported seeing it enter a room, only to turn on the television set and sat down to watch. People have also claimed to see a red glowing light floating down the halls.

ST. JOSEPH - Central High School - A couple ghost dwell here. One whom particularly likes the Auditorium. And another one who plays pranks and resides mostly on the bathrooms. A group of girls have reported (as has many other students and faculty members) that they will flood the bathrooms. Especially on the main, 2nd and 3rd floors. The Theater Arts Teacher and classes have affectionately named the ghost that haunts the Auditorium.

ST. JOSEPH - The Old Park Floral Building - After the floral shop shut down they tried to sell it but no one wants to buy it do to its weird happenings. There is a very eerie feeling when you enter the building. Plus it kind of looks like a castle. People have heard a beautiful sound of piano playing from the upper floors, they hear foot steps, noises in the fire place.

ST. JOSEPH - The Death Cellar - It's the house of the resident C.W. Farquhar. It has been known by many people that have stayed in the basement long enough. The doors will lock. The lights will turn a light red color. Screams of many young girls. And full figured ghosts seen laying on the ground screaming. In 1975 a man brought many young girls to the basement and slowly killed them.

ST. JOSEPH - Glore Psychiatric Museum - Strange noises and sightening have been reported and the 3rd floor is said to be haunted by a man in dress pants. An old patient is said to be seen wandering the halls through out the building. The most haunted part of the building is the Basement where the Morgue is located. Strange things such as the motion detecter going off rapidly when no one is around, the sewing machine starting, cries of help, sounds of whimpering and crying, and a man's shadow and muttering have been heard. Ten groups, (four groups of 1, two groups of 2, two groups of 3, a group of 4, and a group of half of a schooling college class), have reported hearing a woman's voice whisper "Help Me." at seperate times. And six groups, (two groups of one, three groups of three, and one family tour), have reported a man running towards the elevator bellowing "Why are you here? Get out!".

ST. JOSEPH - St. Joeseph's Foods - At night some of the guards have said to see the door of the guard shack open and the sound of footsteps as if someone was coming in the guard shack, one guard said he was doing his rounds and saw someone walking outback by the back fence, sounds come from the basement when no one is in the building.

ST. JOSEPH - The St. Joseph School District offices - Are reported to be haunted. Doors open and close by themselves.

ST. JOSEPH - The Social Parlor - The building is an old furrier, and you can sometimes see the old man who ran it back in the day.

ST. JOSEPH - Carnegie Library - The ghost of a librarian is said to haunt this site and is known to move books and speaks to tell patrons quiet down.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on the 300 block of Massachusetts Street From just north west of Kansas City and south east of Platte City where I-435 runs north into I-29 also called US 71, take I-29 north for 26 miles until you reach I-229. Exit west on I-229 and go down it 4.4 miles to US 59 also called south 6th Street, exit onto South 6th Street and turn left or south down South 6th Street and go down it for 1.7 miles to Massachusetts Street. Turn left onto Massachusetts Street and go down it .2 miles, the library will be on your right side.

ST. JOSEPH - Ashland Cemetery - Reports of it being haunted, no details as yet.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at 2324 Ashland Avenue between Arlington Ave and Beck Road.

ST. JOSEPH - Felix's Grave - The grave itself is on conservation land. It can't be seen from the road you must go up the drive which is cable locked its about 50 yards up the drive then it forks take the right or north fork and its about 30 yards down that fork its just a small plot with about four graves all of which face the setting sun instead of the rising sun supposedly witches are buried that way facing the setting sun. One reporter says, "When we got to the end of the path, it opened out into a dark area with a prominent tree. We saw lights flashing everywhere and I could hear what sounded like laughter. At the time I don't remember there being a wall, just a great big old tree and a grave surrounded by a wrought iron fence and the lights. Now I can identify the lights as orbs - then I had no idea how to describe them. We got turned around and something started BANGING on the back of the car. It felt like it was going to knock the car over. And I was screaming again and Chuck was swearing and all in all it was like something out of a horror movie. I can say that we could see all around us and no one was there but us. I will swear to my deathbed that it is the most haunted place I have ever been. I have had lots of paranormal experiences, but that one was by far the scariest." Another local states that when he was in high school, his friend commited suicide. The friend was talking to his ex-girlfriend on the cell phone and he decided he couldn't live without her so he drove the car with his other friends into the wall of Felix cemetery. It killed them all and the ex girlfriend heard it all. Another local states that the graveyard at the conservation is the old "Potter's Grave" where the indigent were buried. He also said that graves have been added. Another visitor to the site states, "A friend said we should go there for Halloween cause it was kind of scary. Usually things don't scare me and I don't buy into all that. Well now I do. Just driving up to where the road stops was enough, I was completely freaked out and so was my roommate as she was sobbing, I was crying and my friend just had a strange look on his face. It seemed like we could see something moving on the side of the road but couldn't tell what it was. I know it wasn't an animal or anything because having grown up in the country, I am quite used to animal noises in the woods, there is no way that I could have been that scared of that. Then we decided to leave and the truck turned itself off. Its only 6 months old and never had any problems before or since. But it turned off and wouldn't start when it did start the headlights were really dim and didn't brighten up until we got back to the main road." Another resident says, "Sept. 26, 2006, My wife and I took our dogs for a walk at the sunbridge conservation area for an hour or so. My wife decided she wanted to do some history on the felix-liliger cemetery. We tied the dogs up at the enterance to the cemetery and we entered the cemetery so she could look at some of the head stones to get names, date of birth, and death dates. we found 11 head stones all with the name of liliger, lynch, and worthwine. None of the head stones had the name Felix. While we were in the cemetery getting the info we need our dogs went nuts barking like they were trying to tell us to get out . My Lab finally settled down once we got out of the cemetery. We walked to the observation deck that the dept. of conservation built. On the way to the deck I heard my name called faintly twice, my wife heard a noise like someone had just exheld over her right shoulder. My wife and I are into the haunted history of ST. Joseph, missouri. I have lived here most of my life and I have been to the felix-liliger cemetery numerous times and this is the first time I have experenced something like that . The voice I heard sounded like a guys voice but it wasn't like it was meant to scare me. It was like the voice just wanted me to know that they knew I was there and it was ok for us to be there." Another account: "I hunt the sunbridge area and know the location of the Felix cemetery. There are about 10 to 15 graves in this area. One grave that stands out for me is the witches grave under a big oak tree. Rumor has it that at night the head stone glows. I have seen the writing on the headstone and it reads. Here I am , here I lye cross this grave and you'll surely die. There is also a private cemetery on Bush road in the south end of St. Joseph that is rumored to have her twin sister's grave. I have heard that her headstone reads the same. Now about the caves on waterworks road. I have been in these caves several years ago while deer hunting the area. There are drawings on the walls indicating devil worshiping.The Missouri department of conservation has recently closed off the entrances to the caves. I have never been to either of these areas in the dark." One group experienced a voice while out there that said, "get out of here" and they stated "we all stopped dead in our tracks looked at each other and brushed it off as nothing....we kept walking....once again hearing that voice telling us to leave but this time it was louder and it sounded as if it were coming from all directions instead of one solid location." Another reporter states that a group of 10 grown men went out at about 3 am, and one of the men who as he said, served this country and had seen so pretty scary things in the war, experienced a hand upon him as they were leaving, he said it was as if a force was trying to physically turn his body back toward the grave and he hasn't been back since. Another grown woman states her and her sister visited the site during the day and she had taken pictures while she was up there, around the witches grave underneath the oak tree, and in one of the pictures it shows a lady's figure in the tree. The text below is copywritten to The Griffon News, Missouri Western State College. The information came from the St. Joseph News-Press, Gazette and Telegraph, the Buchanan County Historical Society, St. Joseph City Directory and first-hand interviews: Felix's Grave: If an outsider were to ask a St. Jo native about Felix's Grave in North End, they would hear one of many tales told about the bedeviled lot. One story is that of a man with the last name of Felix who killed his entire family. He allegedly murdered and buried them in the woods. He then called the police to his house, shot himself and left a detailed note of what he had done. According to this version, he last family member he killed was a baby, and the child's cries can still be heard in the dead of night coming from the hill that is its final resting place. Another story tells that Felix was killed in an accident while driving to his home along the river bluffs late one night. His car was found in a ditch alongside the road, but his body was never found. His wife had a memorial erected at the site, and legend says that on a clear night, when the moon is full, you can see the glowing marker floating among the trees. None of the stories about a man named Felix have ever been verified, either as true or false. And, over the years, Felix's Grave has been identified as in a small family cemetery in the Sun Bridge Conservation Area. Ironically, none of the overgrown markers in the cemetery bear the name of Felix, but city maps name the cemetery as the Felix-Liliger Cemetery. The Felix-Liliger Cemetery lies about a quarter of a mile off Huntoon Road, within the confines of a wrought-iron fence worn down by time and vandals. Not unlike many of the hundred or more small burial grounds in this area, the cemetery has been neglected for many years and has the eerie chill of things long forgotten. Joseph Liliger came to the United States from Germany somewhere around the turn of the century. He married at woman named Elizabeth Worthwine and their family chose the small patch of land on the Missouri River bluffs as their final resting place. Just under a dozen headstones mark the area; some have a great deal of detail, while others are almost bare. One grave simply reads 'grandmother.' What cannot be found on the markers are the haunting tales that surround this little country cemetery. In 1980, Liliger's wife's grave was robbed. A liner and mattress from a casket were recovered but according to the St. Joseph News-Press article, investigators never found Elizabeth's remains. There was much speculation about the incident, ranging from adolescent vandals to satanic cults along the river's edge, but nothing came of the police inquiry. In 1992, a human jaw and upper leg bone were found not far from the grave yard. It was never confirmed if the bones belonged to Elizabeth Liliger.Directions and other pertinent information:Located off Huntoon Road in the Sun Bridge Conservation Area in North End. ST. JOSEPH - Mount Mora Cemetery - Mt. Mora Cemetery is one of the oldest cemetery's in St. Joseph. The many winding paths and majestic mausoleums lend an air of peaceful antiquity to the cemetery. Many of the rich and famous of St. Joseph are buried there, including three Missouri governors, a Pony Express rider and several of the city's founding fathers. But the spirit said to haunt Mt. Mora is neither rich nor famous. No one knows who she is. An old article from the St. Joseph Telegraph named her the Lavender Lady, and stated she was an African-American woman in a cape and lavender veil. She appears around 10 p.m. on moonlit nights, walking on Mt. Mora Road. ST. JOSEPH - Haunted (Headless) Bridge - It is said that if you park under the bridge at night and shut off your car and lights then sit there and be patiant, if she (the ghost) is there she will appear down the road and walk right for your car. One local states, "I've been there a few times and saw a figure of a person down the road. A friend of mine has said he has seen her but she was carrying her head in her arms." There are no accounts of what occurred that caused this female apparation to haunt the bridge.Directions and other pertinent information:Located down on Mason Road. It is in the south end, go down pear street and turn on ajax and follow that to mason road, the road will go from gravel to pavement and it is the first place where the highway crosses the road.

ST. JOSEPH - King Hill Cemetery - One local states, "Several friends and I have been to King Hill Cemetery at midnight in hopes of catching a glimpse of the "witch". While we were there, no activity seemed to be present, until we looked at the pics taken with our digital camera. Not only do we have orbs, but we also have a mist figure floating above the gravestones. Clearly visible is an outline of a face and what appears to be a long hooded cloak. The night was clear and none of us remember seeing this "mist" while we were taking the pics. There were definitely cold spots. We all noticed those. Also, we had a tape recorder with us. At the time we did not notice any odd noises, but listening to the tape afterwords there were voices although it was hard to distinguish what they were saying. They were not our voices." Another local states, "Legend has it that Nancy Hawley was a witch. Her grave is in the old King Hill cemetery in south Saint Joseph MO. The picture was taken on a clear cool night. No one was smoking when the picture was taken. although we cannot verify this is anything more than mist, we believe we can see a face surrounded by a hood or cloak in the picture. My wife Natisha Roberts took this picture sometime around Halloween 2004 with a digital camera. We did get a recorded voice on tape that night that was not anyone from the group. It sounds like a high pitched crackly voice. The only word we could make out clearly was the name Chad. My husband was there that night and his name is Chad. We used a crystal and board to talk that night and my sisters husband said he felt bone chilling cold so we asked the crystal if the spirit was standing behind Steve and it said yes. I then snapped a photo of Steve and when we arrived home the photo of Steve looks like there is something behind him glowing." The information came from the St. Joseph News-Press, Gazette and Telegraph, the Buchanan County Historical Society, St. Joseph City Directory and first-hand interviews: "South End: King Hill Cemetery/Lookout: According to legend, in the late 1840s the pillars of the St. Joseph community found themselves a witch. After being tried, convicted and killed, the witch was buried in King Hill Cemetery, the oldest Christian Cemetery in the city. Years later, the Witch's Grave has become a rite of passage for city youths to prove their bravery in midnight visits. Her grave became so popular that the headstone was removed to keep vandals at bay. There are many stories related to the powers of the Witch's Grave, but none have been proven. One King Hill legend that has proven to hold more than a ring of truth is that of the Indian warrior. Indian legend says that the dead migrate over the Missouri River to the 'sun bridge' of the western sunset to the 'Happy Hunting Grounds.' And archeological evidence has been found at King Hill indicating it was an Indian burial ground. A story from the St. Joseph Gazette reported the tale of a pioneer girl who was scalped at the peak of King Hill Lookout. She was the beautiful daughter of a settler who built his house atop King Hill. She fell in love with an Indian warrior from a tribe that had captured her family. They ran away together, but somewhere in the course of the romance something went terribly wrong. Their bodies were found at King Hill Lookout. He had scalped her and then taken his own life. If they could not live together, they would not live at all. On a clear night, you can hear her moaning from the top of King Hill, mourning her death and that of her lover.Directions and other pertinent information:Located at East Phillip & South 4th Street.

ST. JOSEPH - City Cemetery - The following text is copywritten to The Griffon News, Missouri Western State College. The information came from the St. Joseph News-Press, Gazette and Telegraph, the Buchanan County Historical Society, St. Joseph City Directory and first-hand interviews: City Cemetery: The nearly abandoned St. Joseph City Cemetery hasn't seen a burial for many years, but the memory of past burials still haunts it. The cemetery on Amazonia Road in North St. Joseph was started in 1857 as a burying ground for the poor of the city and the surrounding area. Over the years, not only the poor have been buried there, but also unidentified bodies killed on the railroads or found in the Missouri River have found their final resting places there. A Black man who was lynched by an angry mob in downtown St. Joseph in 1933 for allegedly raping and murdering a white woman is buried there also. Records of who is buried there have long ago disappeared, and there are very few grave markers of any sort. The poor marked loved one's graves with bricks, wooden boards and even chunks of concrete from buildings. The city discontinued use of this potter's field in 1993 and tore down the caretaker's home and shed. If any place would be perfect for hauntings it would surely be this forgotten place -- and according to a St. Joseph News-Press article from the 1940s it is. Farmers driving into town early in the mornings would see a shadowy female figure walking from grave to grave reading the tombstones. Legend says she is the ghost of a woman who murdered her lover and then died herself. Because she never had the opportunity to repent her sin, she walks the cemetery searching for the grave of the man she murdered to ask his forgiveness.Directions and other pertinent information:Located on Amazonia Road.

ST. JOSEPH - Old Sisters Hospital - On the site of where the Old Sisters Hospital is in the north end of St. Joseph Mo., it's said that when they tore down the hospital you could see a woman, either in a nuns outfit or a hospital gown standing on the rubble pile crying. When the hospital was open, they said you could see a old nun walking through the halls doing rounds, people would describe her and they would be told that no one that works here fits that description. Some of the older nuns and nurses would say that was sister so an so, she worked here in the fifties or sixties until her death. She was around 90 years old and had went on break, fell asleep and passed away.Directions and other pertinent information:Located in the north end of St. Joseph.

ST. JOSEPH - The Old Devil Worship Caves - One local states, "Old Devil Worship Caves in the north end of St. Joseph, off Old Water Works Road, is no place to be on foot after dark. All kinds of spooky stuff was to have happened up there, from satanic sacrifice in the fifties to a Klan torture hanging in the sixties; and I believe a union soldier from the civil war - his ghost has been seen there on horse back." ST. LOUIS -ZOMBIE ROAD - Urban Legend tells a variety of eerie tales which include being host to ritualistic and occult practices which spawned inhuman and demonic entities while other tales tell of those who met their peculiar demise and still roam this desolate road in the afterlife. With centuries of erosion forging a transversal path through the bluffs along the “River of Death”, so named by those who use to call this their home centuries ago, this area has seen many come through its natural carved corridors to a crossable ford in the River below. Some say this is called Zombie Road because the railroad workers who once worked here rise from their graves at times to roam about. Some insist that they have heard old time music, seen anomalous moving lights and other ghostly sightings from that forgotten era. Another tale tells of a patient nicknamed “Zombie” who escaped from a nearby mental facility never to be seen again. His blood soaked gown was later found lying upon the old road later named after him. Other tales include one of an original settler who met their demise upon the railroad tracks. Another includes a pioneer who lost his wife in a poker game then went back to his homestead and took his own life. Many still report seeing these lonely spirits even today. During the age of Prohibition a nearby town housed speakeasies and the summer homes of well known gangsters. Tales tell of individuals who were dealt a bad hand by such public enemies resulting in their permanent placement within the ground or bordering river to never be seen again. The bordering river has tragically delivered many to the other side through the years. Children and adults alike have taken their last living breath within its dangerous waters before being found washed up on its shores. Even during this new millennium, several children met their demise one day within its banks. The railroad still shows “Death hath no mercy” as many have met their final fate upon its tracks. Local lifelong residents can still remember multitudes of tragic occurrences dating back to the 1950’s. One of these occurred in the 1970’s when two teens were struck by an oncoming train. Some of the local residents were used in search parties to find the body parts scattered about the area. During the 1990’s a mother and her five year old child were crossing a bridge when an oncoming train met them. The mother’s last action was pushing her five year old child off the bridge. The engineer was able to stop the train and save the child. Although the mother died, this is still one of the happiest endings to a story this area will provide. More recent past has seen this area become refuge for those wanting privacy to practice the occult and other rituals. Who can really know what true doorways to the darkness or unknown were opened here. This area also became a beacon for teens looking for thrills. In the 1970’s a group of teens engaged in a practice called “huffing”. While using a can of cooking spray to “huff” one of the boys fell unconscious and took his last living breath. Other such drug related deaths have been noted as well over the years. During the 1960’s a couple in their late teens were on top of the bluffs overlooking the road below. The male somehow lost footing and during the fall caught his face in a fork of a small tree growing out from the side of the bluff. His face and scalp remained while the rest of him fell to his death upon the road below. Others have also met their demise from the high bluffs above. The area has also seen its share of suicides and murders. In the 1970’s a hunter stumbled across a car still running at the end the road. Closer inspection revealed a hose running from the exhaust pipe to the inside of the car with the driver slumped over the steering wheel. We would recommend that anyone interested in Zombie Road, they get a copy of the Booth Brothers documentary called "Children of the Grave". They featured "Zombie Road" in the documentary and cover it quite well. You will get to see the image captured here, with a thermal camera, of mass children shadow people, along with hearing interviews with a local deputy and much more. We feel Zombie Road is one of, if not the most, haunted place in America.Directions and other pertinent information:The actual name of the road is Lawler Ford Road, but it is better known as Zombie Rd. The road is located in Wildwood (formerly Ellisville)and Glencoe in West St. Louis County, MO. To get there, take Manchester Rd. West to Old State Rd. S (left), go 1 mile and turn left on Ridge Rd. Turn immediately right into the parking lot at Ridge Meadows Elementary School. Walk 20 feet to the left of the school and you are standing on Zombie Road. The Lawer Ford sign is no longer there. The road is about 2 miles long through a valley of forest hills and deadends near the Meramec River in the Glencoe area where Old State Rd. meets Hwy 109. This is where there used to be a regular railroad track and now has a mini railroad ride for kids. This is the beach area where they say all the activity goes on. There are dalipidated and flooded out houses and shacks in this area.

ST. LOUIS - COUNTYBee Tree Park - The park has two haunted sites. One is the ruins of an unfinished house that built by a man for his wife, who left him for another man; and the Nims Mansion, now the Golden Eagle Museum is said to be a very active haunting.Directions and other pertinent information:Bee Tree Park is near Kimmswick. ST. LOUIS - COUNTYMeyers House (also spelled Myers by some) - The voice of Adaline Meyers has been heard on the grounds surrounding the mansion. ST. LOUIS - COUNTYThornhill Mansion - This is the historic home of Missouri's second Governor, Frederick Bates who died here in 1877 at the age of 48. Both he and his wife Nancy Opie Ball Bates, who died in 1877 along with two of their four children, are buried in the family cemetery on the grounds behind the mansion. Objects are reported to disappear and later be found at odd locations. The mansion historian has stated that two of the employees have seen the former Governor upstairs, one of whom will not go inside after dark. ST. LOUIS - Alexian Brothers Hospital Site - This is the actual site of an exorcism, the event the movie is based on. The original building was torn down some years ago. The exorcism was performed on a young (perhaps 11) year old boy. After a vision of St. Michael the spirit was vanquished. The site is part of the parking lot now. It has a reoccurring crack in the pavement directly under the room the exorcism was held in. On a side note, the boy was transferred back and forth from Alexian Bros to White house estates (A catholic retreat)

Had radio on and turned off by it self. Desk fell over in the room while he was cleaning. This school was opened in 1952, its reported to be haunted by someone who died in a fire. ST. LOUIS - Ralston Purina - parking lot - This site was formerly the Gratiot Street Prison. Here is a bit of history on the place. The building had been McDowell's College, a medical college owned and operated by Joseph Nash McDowell. It was confiscated by the Federal authorities in the spring of 1861. In December 1861 the building was converted into a prison and later renamed. Even early Federal records often call the place "McDowell's College." It was right in the midst of some of the wealthiest homes in St. Louis. General Fremont's headquarters in the Brant Mansion were only a block away. Right across the street was the home of the wealthy Harrison family. Attached to Gratiot on the north was the Christian Brothers Academy. Unlike other Civil War prisons, Gratiot was used to hold just about anyone and everyone. Along with Confederate prisoners of war were also held civilians ("citizens"), women, children, confiscated slaves ("contrabands"), spies, saboteurs, political prisoners, guerrillas and bushwhackers, and even Federal soldiers who had committed crimes or had misbehaved. Of Confederate soldiers held at Gratiot, the most likely ones came from battles and states in the Mississippi River region as far south as New Orleans. They were sent north for processing at Gratiot then moved on to Alton and other eastern prisons. Also soldiers fighting in Missouri and Arkansas would be sent to St. Louis. ST. LOUIS - Rose Hill - A long time ago a girl name Rose was driving along when here car stalled out going up a hill. The car rolled back to the bottom of the hill. After trying to restart the car she got out to look under the hood. That was when she was grabbed by a man and murdered by her car. Now people say that if you go to where she was killed you should dust the trunk of your car with flour and place a rose on the trunk. Then when you drive up the hill and check the trunk there will be handprints on the trunk and the rose will be gone. They say that her ghost helps every car get up the hill.

ST. LOUIS CITY - South of Hwy 64Roosevelt High School - Rumors of the school being built on a cemetery, the forth floor is off limits, when they built it, they did so over a cemetery and only moved the headstones. Bones surface on the football field and a grave collapsed in the front lawn and they had to fill it in. - May 2008 Additional information: One of the football players practicing football and tripped over what turned out to be a coffin that was resurfacing. His father was also present when a femur bone was excavated and determined to be a human bone. Two of his cousins who attended this high school went to the 4th floor with some of their friends and reported actually being able to hear what sounded like people banging on the door as if trying to escape. There was a fire that killed everyone on the 4th floor, which is why it is blocked off. No one knows how the fire got started and - according to local legend****) the nearest 3 fire stations that could have been there and probably saved the lives of some of the people on that floor, could not get their station doors to open for the trucks to get out. A station about 5 miles away had to respond and by the time they got there, it was too late. - Talking to a local retired fireman, he hadn’t heard of this local legend, but did report of a fire that happened at Roosevelt when the school was having the floors stripped. 3 off-duty firemen lost their lives while helping with the fire. Addition: Another report that is similar, This school was built over a cemetery, and although the coffins were removed, it is known that not all of the bodies were removed from the site, with human bones found on the football field. In August 1977 a fire in the hallway outside the lunchroom killed 4 firefighters. ST. LOUIS - Six Flags Theme Park - There are three known ghosts that haunt this famous theme park. The first one is the ghost of a little girl that has been seen around various areas of the park running around and laughing. The second spirit is a girl named Stella who haunts several of the parks theaters, giving off cold spots and speaking to people. The last ghost to haunt this park is known as The Pigman. He has been spotted on the back service roads late at night and some of the employees have claimed to hear the echoes of pigs squealing in the distance.

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Job Corps - Witnesses have reported something jumping on them and jumping on beds to fin a figure run straight through the door into the hallway .

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis University - Old residence hall - locked up now, but there is no electricity to it, yet every night a light shines. Electricians have tried to find a power source, and never have. - May 2004 Update: A graduate from SLU reports to have no recollection or any unused residence halls or buildings on campus. The post may either be outdated or just not true.
- June 2008 Update: It's not a residence hall anymore. It was remodeled into a classroom building but the top floor is still as is. The top floor is the one that is actually haunted. Lights do flick on at night and you can see someone standing in the upper window and during the day you can hear this awful nails on a chalkboard sound.

ST. LOUIS - St. Lukes Hospital - Children’s ward is haunted. A patient stayed there and has seen a few strange things. The pen container on the nurses desk will slide to the other side. Children’s bedroom doors will close on by there selves, slamming shut. Late at night there is crying of children and laughing in the play room.

ST. LOUIS - Webster Groves Theatre Guild - Believed to be haunted by a little girl in the upper part of the theatre, who is playful and likes to play tricks on people during rehearsals. Another spirit of an old lady whom the little girl is said to be terrified of, is in the basement of the theatre.

ST. LOUIS - Webster University - Loretto-Hilton Theater - The Loretto-Hilton is haunted by a tech guy who died there; he once saved someone who had leaned too far over the edge of a catwalk: the man was falling, and then felt someone pull him back -- only no one else was there.

STANBERRY - Coopers cemetery - Babies crying, an old man appearing out of no where by the forest line coming towards you swinging a lantern, then disappearing. Sticks breaking in the woods constantly like someone is walking out in the woods. Turn right or west, take this road for .4 miles and turn left or south on this local road driving south for .5 miles to where it dead ends onto another local road. Turn right or west and go down this road for .9 miles then turn right or north going down another .2 miles, the cemetery will be on your right.

STEELVILLE - Old Midland School House - A resident of the home says, "Around 1834 (built) on the old Sankin road; this was the first school, it was one room. The story I was told was a little girl died there when they were having school. Later another school was rebuilt just steps away from were the old one was. The old school still stands and has been redone to live in, with the one large room sectioned off into 5 rooms. Yes it is haunted. Let me tell you a story about what happened 1967. I came home from church, and it was as I was getting out of the church bus, when I saw a dark figure of a man in the window. (remember the house is by the road.) He was standing behind the old wood stove (that we used for heat). I thought it was my dad, I went around to the door and it slammed shut real hard. I thought dad was mad, so I got a little scared and went around to the kitchen door and was getting ready to go in and it slammed shut real hard. I really got scared then and ran to the neigbors house, (who were an elderly couple.) to call my brother. I told him that dad would not let us in and I was scared. I thought he hurt our mother or something. But my brother said no, and he was explaining to me that dad and mom was there with him. No one was home. I stayed hidden across the road till they got there. I will never forget that he looked so real. And there was other times when we saw lights coming up the hill and noises. If you are ever around Steelville MO, go look at the house, it's about 2 miles out of town on the Old Sankin Road up the hill from the Old Hard Wood Charcoal Place. I lived there for 10 years, that was over 35 years ago. It has new owners now. STEELVILLE - Snelson Brinker Cabin Slave girls crypt - (See Rolla, Snelson-Brinker Cabin) Some also claim that the 16 yr. old slave girl, Mary, who was found guilty and hanged in the Steelville town square back in the 1800's, accused of drowning Sarah Brinker, a 2 yr. old child in a nearby spring, is buried in a stone structure built close to the water tower in Steelville just off High St. and it is eery to visit.

STONE - Reeds Spring - Middle School Gym - Late at night a basketball can be heard as if the person who used to play for the school team was still there. Many years ago he was killed when a group of buddies skipped school to run around. His funeral was held in the gym with his coffin located underneath the goal that the ghost plays his basketball.
